  • I admire your determination! I wish it would snow here! We barely got any this year and we're pretty sure winter's over for us.
  • You'll do great! Let us know how it goes! Sister ran W6D1 today and had stitches on both sides, but got through it. I'm running it tomorrow, no time today unless I wanted to do it with a full stomach; no thanks! I keep seeing little bits of improvement in other areas though, which is encouraging! Little things…
  • If it tastes good to you and you can fit it into your calorie goal, why not? I personally think it sounds kind of gross, but I can't think of why it would nutritionally be bad unless you've been told (by a doctor, not a fad dieter) that you shouldn't have a ton of fats. Even then, I can't imagine you're having enough of it…
  • You'll do great! I'm jealous; I'm way too slow to do it by distance (my current attachment to the treadmill aside). W5D3 done--the dreaded 20 minute run, finished! For the first 2 minutes I was convinced I wouldn't be able to do it, but I think it was all mental since the time actually seemed to fly by. I was tired, it was…
  • Recently had my wisdom teeth out. Here's what I ate: Mashed potatoes Mac and cheese (mashed/cut up) Jello, pudding, ice cream grits eggs SlimFast shakes yogurt other pastas (cut up super fine) Soups fruit smoothies V8 juice I found that anything with sauce (like the pastas) were fairly easy to swallow without chewing if…
  • Fantastic, you're so close!
  • Thank you both for the clarification!
  • How much of a runner are you already? I'm almost 5 weeks into the C25K program so I can't give any real advice since I'm a beginner myself, but what has helped me the most are all of the posts saying to slow down and not get impatient. I get scared reading all of the running injury threads, so I've taken that advice to…
  • My fingers swell on walks and hikes, and I've found either holding my hands above my waist or holding something in each hand helps a lot. If I'm jogging, my hands are already up there, so it's not as much of an issue. If I'm walking, I like to hold my phone in one hand and a good sized flashlight (not huge or anything) or…
  • Unrelated to the original question, but why are heart rate monitors so popular in that case? Aren't they calculating calorie expenditure based on heart rate? If there's no correlation, are all of the posts saying "get a HRM for better accuracy determining your burn" pointless and misleading? Genuine question, I think I…
  • Sounds awesome, thanks!
  • Applied as a Slytherin, but it sounds like there might not be enough room for me if people are getting waitlisted. :frowning:
  • W5D2 done. Sister and I both agreed it was the absolute worst run we'd had to do, and we think it's because we'd had a couple drinks the night before, not enough water, and then a huge lunch. Ran it later in the evening and by the end we were tired and worn down. Hopefully we don't do as poorly on the next run, since it's…
  • I love the Couch to 5k plan, I'm using the ZenLabs app and halfway through. It's a really good way to ease into running. For losing weight, you just need to eat fewer calories than you burn. You don't need to exercise to lose weight, though exercising will certainly enable you to eat more since you're burning more.

  • Found this the other day: "Cheese, parmesan, shredded, 1 fluid ounce" As much as I enjoy liquid cheese, that's not really what I was looking for.

  • Pretty sure I'm depressed and have been for a very long time, but I don't feel like a doctor would help. The last time I mentioned it she asked, "Are you suicidal?" When I said no, she said, "Yeah, you didn't seem like the type" and brushed it off, assuming it was thyroid related and the bloodwork would pick up anything.…
  • I've been asked out twice in my life, so I think I'd just assume they were making fun of me, haha. I think typically I'd be much more responsive to a conversation first rather than just flat out asking for a number. Maybe not at the gym, though. If I'm running, I don't want a conversation. I guess in that case it would be…
  • That means you burned an extra 3k, but I agree that the wording is confusing. It took me a little longer than I'd like to admit playing with a calculator and trying to figure the same thing out when I first got mine, haha.
  • My running speed is 3.7. You're fine, haha. If you're like my sister (who runs 4.5-5) and just desperately want to get your speed up, she's going to redo the C25K program once we're done but on the walking portions use her easy speed and speed up for the other sections. (So walk=run and run=run faster.) I'm going…
  • I don't have actual experience outside yet but I've been running using a 1% incline on the treadmill. I read on a few different places that it should help the transition. Once I'm done with the program I'm going to try a run outside and see if it feels significantly harder or if the incline actually helped. W5D1 finished…
  • Depends what you want to use it for. I walk and run, so I use it to track my daily calorie expenditure so that I have a more accurate number to eat from. For me, it's totally worth it.
  • I use a Fitbit Zip; their cheapest one, but it does everything I need it to. It's also a clip style, not a bracelet, but I prefer that. I love it! I've heard good things about the bracelets too. I think it's just about what you need it to do, whether you just want a step counter or you want a heart rate monitor, etc. If…
  • I do everything I can not to sweat, I usually turn on every fan nearby when I'm at the gym. Why do you want to so badly? I'm about 4 weeks into a running program and I'd been going on long walks for a while before that, and I've only just recently really begun to sweat enough that it's noticeable and have to wipe it off. I…
  • That's hilarious. I'm not morbidly obese, but when I started C25K I could barely do the 1 minute increments, and I was going super slow. My stick-thin sister was the same. You don't have to be morbidly obese to be super out of shape. Being skinny doesn't give you a magic running ticket. I'm happy for you that C25K was too…
  • When I did it without headphones in I just held the phone as I went. I use headphones all of the time now, though if I was outside instead of on a treadmill (where I can set it on the display) I'd probably still have to hold it because my pants don't have pockets for some reason. It might be worth it to invest in an arm…
  • It's super easy to eat 1500 calories at a restaurant. My favorite meal at my favorite restaurant is probably close to that but I eat it anyway and just log it. It's also not THAT hard to eat less, but it adds up fast if you're not being careful.
  • I use my Fitbit as a step counter with connectivity. I don't need a HRM or sleep tracking or any of that, but I did want the app and website, so I got a Zip and I love it. It's better at estimating what I've burned than MFP, so I can eat exercise calories without worrying about accuracy. After starting to walk way more…
  • Halfway there! Finished W4D3 today. Tried to do 4mph on the treadmill, but after the first run I dropped it back down to 3.7/8 for the rest. You wouldn't think .2 would be that much of a difference, but I couldn't keep it up without being way too out of breath. At this point I'll be doing a 60 minute 5k haha. :fearful: I'm…
