I am by no means an expert, but one thing I can tell you. Well, multiple things really, and things others have already said. You just have to decide if you want to hear the correct information, or only hear what you want to hear: MFP sets you at a caloric deficit that reflects your goals to lose weight. If you are at…

you are a beautiful person, and he is one lucky guy :) :flowerforyou:

The basic formula is calories in < calories out. If you want to eat 1500 cals of potato chips you will lose weight. You won't be healthy per se, and youll likely be very hungry, but the only thing that matters is eating less than you burn. If you want to increase that base number, do exercise. Then you get your 1500 plus…

Congrats on the rediscovery of your collar bones. I found the discovery kind of cool but gross when I noticed mine =P I've started noticing other icky things like hip bones, and wrist bones. Gack!

You can do cardio every day. Walking, jogging, biking. Work it into your life however you can. The weight training is the one where you skip every other day to give your muscle groups recovery time.

1700 is the number you need to consume to be at a caloric deficit and lose weight. If you burn off an additional 700 cals, then it puts you at 1000 net for the day. Not a good number. So my advice: Eat back the calories, either all in one lump sum, or spread out through the day in smaller meals. It doesn't have to be 700…

I use shapes. Or call people stupid Bilbos or Frodo-heads. it isn't pretty if Im calling you a hexagon. Just sayin.

Real reason I was fat? Belief that there wasn't a thing I could do about it, it wouldn't work, bla bla wallow wallow. Reason I am not fat now? Fear of having some kind of weight loss surgery. Surgery in general scares me. Reason I am aiming for thin? Something new to try out. Haven't been thin since puberty.

Cheese fondue - if it fits, it dips! Note: I don't consider it a reward, but due to the heavy cals and sodium I try to keep it infrequent (just had some at New Years and not due again til mid May.)

Very nice -obvious- example, however that isn't always the case when it comes to comparing food labels. Cost is an important factor that a lot of people seem to forget about. That 160 cal snack of yours MIGHT be healthier, but if its going to cost me $6 then Id rather grab the $3 bag of chips. On the surface it looks like…

False. I eat 5 meals a day (disregard last 3 days, haven't been well) and am currently coasting along on weight loss. ETA: as long as you are eating at a deficit your body will have to use up its stores. Its just how it works, frequency doesn't alter that part.

Open your diary if you want more accurate advice, the best we can do is stab in the dark. Do you weigh/measure out everything? Do you log everything? Do you drink lots of water? Have you looked into your BMR/TDEE? Are you sure you are calculating your calorie burn from exercise? There are all kinds of reasons for…

That's a pretty broad sweeping accusation - let me just say that I wasn't under the impression we were saying "fast food is what poor people buy" I thought the topic was "they aren't aware they can do more effective cost distribution in a grocery store." Furthermore I don't think anyone has ever disputed "eating out' being…

There is a difference between stupid and uneducated. If you were less uneducated maybe you would know that

Weight discrimination is rampant. I clearly respect other people's opinions and acknowledge that overweight people likely bring future medical issues to the table, however there is nothing that guarantees the thinner person will not have medical issues. If you were to substitute "man" and "woman" for every instance of…

My husband told me we couldn't have cats cause he had allergies. I told him I couldnt live without them. 15 years and 6 cats later I have yet to see signs of his allergies. Our cats have ranged from short to long haired. Currently we have 2 long haired, 1 med haired, and 1 short haired. ETA: My deal breakers - bad…

I was at 1400 until mid January. I always eat back my workout calories. I had hit a solid wall of going nowhere no matter how hard I pushed at the gym. I decided to take the plunge and checkout the BMR/TDEE calcs saw that my BMR should be more like 1700 and upped my cals to 1600 (ya I am a wimp.) My weight dropped within…

I did. Started off a year ago doing about 3 miles in an hour (sad, I know.) Managed to increase it to 4miles in an hour and kept at it every day til spring when I stretched it out to nice long walks, 7-8 miles in 2 hours with lots of elevation change (hiking trails.) I haven't ever not walked. I think about jogging, then…

Worthy of shorts? If youre really asking that question then you probably won't ever be happy with what your poor lovely legs look like. Just stick to watching what you eat, get lots of exercise and when this summer comes around toss on your short shorts and let the admirers flock  My attitude: My shorts are LUCKY I…

Hi Taunto!

I used to cringe whenever people asked me, never really wanting to feel good about how much I lost (it's a big number after all,) but then I started enjoying, and looking forward to people asking how much weight I have lost, (it IS a BIG number after all!) Why not take the chance to own how dramatically you have improved…

I dont believe in cheat days. What purpose does it serve? You ought to eat what you want (within moderation.) And on days where you go overboard - unless you literally ate like a horse (netting 3500cals) you didn't "gain" any weight. You, more likely, gained a lot of sodium induced water retention. Something I hate about…

First, she is 21 and has very little to lose if her ticker on her profile is any indication. Second, she said she was eating only 1200 a day and then reduced it to 900. Third, she is my height and way younger. I have been on the '(move more to) eat more to weigh less' bandwagon from the second I heard about it. It makes…

The kneejerk reaction to most people saying I can't lose weight on less than 1200 winds up being "go see a dr and see if your thyroid is acting up!" How about we review the facts before we run up a medical bill? She is 5'7" and is doing some serious working out with cardio and lifting. Maintaining a 1200 calorie baseline…

Tagged for future reference material. Very well said.

I would recommend giving it a solid 4 weeks of serious consistent effort for intake. You should see something improving by then. Even if it is just your overall general feeling of wellness. It isn't going to sort itself out in a week, it may look like the numbers are going up - don't panic, just knuckle down and tick off…

You have your daily goals set to 900. That is where you are going wrong. Your body isn't going to be in a hurry to drop weight if you aren't going to give it a replacement fuel source. When/If you workout make sure you eat back your workout calories at the bare minimum. Calculate your BMR/TDEE using any online calculator…

Both sets of my grandparents lived well into their 90s, and stayed at home until "natural causes" kicked in. They never lifted a weight in their life aside from normal day to day activities, and I am sure both of my grandmothers would be appalled at the very notion that they would need weights to achieve the independence…

There is no such thing as starvation mode, it's a misnomer. Your body may have just decided to start hanging onto the food a bit longer than it usually would have due to noticing you are getting serious about cutting calories. Even so, I wouldn't think this is the case unless you have been plateauing for a considerable…
