  • When you work out you can log exercise manually in MFP by going to the exercise tab and looking for the workout that best describes yours. Enter the duration/reps/etc. MFP also syncs with many workout apps like Endomondo, FitBit, etc http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps

  • I usually get bloaty before and start losing water during. It goes to show that everyone has different experiences and not to sweat it too much. If you are logging accurately then just keep your head up :)
  • With what you shared about your age, weight, height etc I wouldn't worry about losing weight. Focus instead on lifting, contouring, shaping up what you have, toning, tightening. Slap a label on it then get busy doing it. Find out your TDEE, get your nutritional macros sorted out and start working with weights to start…
  • I wasn't "fat" but I wasn't lanky and lean either. My mother was over concerned about my weight - wouldn't let me play with Barbies cause Id get anorexic but for the love of God Robin suck in your belly! =| Raised in a "clean your plate" home that had no idea about portion control and candy/soda fully stocked all the time,…
  • Yep totally normal. I actually gain weight before, then it holds steady until midway through then the weight just melts away. It's kind of twistedly exciting :p
  • Oh my God, you just became my hero. Thank you so much for posting your before and current photos. You look amazing, and I just know you can accomplish what you set your mind to do. I think its positively interesting that you set your goal weight to 200. It's good to take a breather and figure out what to do next. Good on…
  • You plug your info into MFP goal calculator, for now, and then decide how to best consume your daily calorie allotment. You can find out what works best for this depending on your nutritional needs- reading nutrition labels, doing some online homework for calorie conscious recipes, etc can all contribute to your…

  • Thanks for the update. TBH it never crosses my mind to take my food scale, but you know- Id post full on support! Scales deserve to go out too! I think all buffets are shame wastelands, but you know what- who cares :P I love all you can eat troughs of shame. It's easy to lose track of what you're eating, how much, and in…
  • when eating out pay attention to portions, a lot of places do tasty salads and throw the dressing on the side- no croutons. If you like soups, remember that brothy almost always beats creamy and the more veggies the better. Take the MFP app with you- you might find your restaurant in the database, and be able to browse…
  • Define bad? I stopped eating at fast food places once I saw the calories per sandwich. Holy snotballs, Id rather have an amazing steak for that calorie damage. I don't miss the expense, or the food. I've tried it since I quit 4 years ago and it tastes appalling to me now with the excessive salt and grease. Yack. Going out…
  • I follow instructions on packages so when the brown rice says boil then simmer for 45 minutes, then thats what I do. And most often it comes out hit or miss. I use covers, I watch the temps. I stir from time to time to ensure all rice gets sort of equal simmer time. I like the oven suggestion, but wouldn't do it as a stand…
  • My first go around I found myself at the bottom of hell and depression and realised I was fat because I hated myself and challenged me to lose 50lbs in a year or go to bypass surgery. I lost 50lbs in 6months, and kept losing simply by walking and counting calories. That's it, that simple. I was so proud of myself. Then I…
  • If you mean how much meat is in the USDA cooked, then I would suggest probably mussels all are "roughly" the same weight/size without the shell- sort of like almonds are all roughly exactly the same weight (some a fraction more some a fraction less but on avg the same.) So they just took the avg weight of the mussel and…
  • I love going to yard sales and garage sales. It's an excuse to be out on lovely days, and sometimes make a good find. Free hardcover books and some really great toys (excellent condition) for my grandkids to use when they come over. Nerf gun collection for my youngest boy for less than the cost of one- all 10 in working…
  • 4.6 is a very fast walk, at my peak I barely made 4 and def knew I was working harder than on a treadmill. Is the path you walked able to be driven? Take your car and get an estimate that way. Does your app break down the details so you can see if your GPS skipped and sped you up? (Mine will do that a lot when I go for my…
  • Posture. A man who stands or walks with confidence. Not rushed, not swaggering around, just completely self assured and knows he's got his stuff together, at least today he does
  • You should google photos of women who "casual" body build. (Not professional women athletes but your avg amazing lifter chick.) They don't look like men. Or your dudes know a lot of girly looking body builders.. but then thats on them not you. Im not surprised at their reaction of shock, but your hubby not being more…
  • Daily to learn what impacts my weight gain, how it impacts, and see a motivational trend. Whether to kick it up a notch or beam proudly at my accomplishments.

  • With the numbers in my weight no. Id be too imposing next to my reed of a hubby, despite his being a foot taller. Now, if I were under 200 but it was all hard work and lean muscle then hells ya
  • However exercise increases the amount of calories you can eat. More food is always awesome. So walk away!!!
  • I am a fan of trying new things, even if they aren't "New." You ate a donut, maybe two. It was awful and next time you see a box youll know you don't want them. Log the calories, go for a walk if you're feeling that torn up about it and earn some cals back. Life is life. I am a big fan of trying the same thing in a new…
  • When the need arises :p Hubby, however, gets all sorts of awkward if he does- preferring to race to the bathroom instead. Even after 20 years of marriage o.O
  • Without looking at your diary its hard to do anything but guess. Sodium intake high? Do you use a food scale and log everything? Doing a lot of cardio/str training? Time of month?

  • Im in if youre serious about committing. I have had serious ups and downs since starting in 2012 (managed to drop to 209 before rebounding in an ugly way) Im in this until I win and probably long after I hit maintenance as Ive proven to myself I can't survive without MFP calorie logging :)
  • I gave some thought to your comments and the article. I think the OP was thinking more about guilt related to the occasional sweet treat that comes with lots of processed sugars and guilt as opposed to what this article discusses, liptin/carbs and refeeding. From what I gather this article actually says avoiding "bingeing"…
  • If you wanted to you could buy a food journal to use for your trip. I use one every summer when I head to the mountains - yay no cell service!! Before you go you could contact the cruise people and ask if they have a menu with calories listed, online or other. And if not, then I guess you could look at their menu online…
  • Anyone wanting to add me, feel free- though I insist on commitment. This is my second go around, and I want to make this one stick.
  • I am a huge fan of eating back at least half of your workout calories. Somedays I eat it all back, other days I eat half. I would recommend doing what makes you feel good, as (if youre operating on the MFP cal deficit) you can't do any real damage to yourself by eating it all back.
  • So right out of the gate Id suggest that the 5:2 isn't optimal for you. Reconsider how you want to approach weight loss - keeping in mind your short term and long term goals. If you are hell bent on staying with the 5:2 then I suppose I would recommend keeping healthier fall back foods on hand for if/when you find yourself…

  • Id log everything. Just be conscientious of what you are eating. You don't have to record every little thing every single time, but try to do so when you get the chance - bathroom breaks, downtime at the hotel, etc. Theres a goo chance your scale is going to show you ugly numbers when you get back. Most "eat out" places…
