  • Half of us are GF, my husband and youngest son are not. Main meals are totally GF. It's easier and cheaper that way. i.e. tonite is pork chops in the crock pot, with carrots, potatoes, red & green peppers, and onions. I'll make some rice to go with it. If the husband wants bread and butter, he'll have some (but I'll…
  • Whenever to do Thanksgiving the whole meal is GF and dairy free! People complained at first, but my husband told them that they could come and eat or not - didn't matter to us, lol! But everything turns out great (except my biscuits - I don't know WHY I can't make biscuits!! This isn't new for me though, I couldn't make…
  • I have a son with a gluten intolerance, and the other one doesn't (but he doesn't get much anyway!). I did put my youngest on the GF diet for 2 full months because he complains of his legs hurting all the time too, but it didn't help at all. He's also chronically constipated, which is another symptom, but again, nothing…
  • Don't do it. You've survived a month, and another week or two isn't going to kill you. In fact, once you give your notice, you might find your anxiety is so much better because you KNOW you'll be gone soon!
  • There are GF bagels, we love Udi's. They have hamburger buns and hot dog buns too. Pretty much, if you want it, someone makes it. So, stick with what he WILL eat then, just use an acceptable GF substitute. Try not to overthink this. Be careful, avoid cross contamination, read your labels (there's the 3 time rule - once in…
  • I gave up caffeine in all forms for years, back in 2004. I was so sensitive to it. If I didn't have any first thing in the morning I was dealing with headaches all day! In 2011, I started back up because I was so freaking tired all the time. At first I thought I was OK. Nope. Found out I actually had developed a caffiene…
  • I make my son's lunch EVERY day. He's extremely picky, and it makes it hard. He's also dairy free, so its even more restricted, plus we're allergic to oats and buckwheat, which just makes it even more fun! It's time to literally think outside the box. Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, meat, rice, there's a plethora of gluten…
  • Because my Mom has HBP even with tracking her sodium. Aslo, my joints seem to be stiffer when I get too much. And its just not all that great for you.
  • 3 weeks is not enough time. You need a minimum of 4 weeks, and preferably 6. I was nursing at the time, trying to figure out my infants allergies. I was Top 8 and Corn free. I eat brown rice, veggies, fruits, used olive oil, and ate meat. That was it. You have to start getting creative after awhile, lol! It was 6 years…
  • Ah, just saw this. Obviously foods you're allergic to can cause this. You need to be more careful about the foods you're 'mildly' allergic to. Try some Miralax if you're having trouble going, its non-habit forming. And possibly some Benadryl.
  • Well, you need to talk to your doctor. Get some testing done - but because testing is NOT 100% accurate (or your douche doc won't run tests and tries to fix it with a pill like most of mine have), you start an elimination diet. Which is, removing the Top 8 allergens from your system for a full 6 weeks, then adding them…
  • You have to just keep applying. We had to move to a new state for my husband to find something new. I HATED my job. Like, had horrific anxiety about going every single day, to the point I was literally (yes, literally) making myself ill. I don't deal with people well. I'd never had a problem until I was promoted to Human…
  • When I was working, and my husband wouldn't help, it made me feel so undervalued and unappreciated. We worked on it, he started helping more (keeping in mind we had 2 small children as well). But I also worked nights and he worked during the day. It was hard for him to get things done with 2 tired children on his tail. Now…
  • Very helpful, thanks! More or less just wondering what everyone else does! I've been gluten free for 3 years now (feels like forever, lol!), but I LOVE to bake. It's really hard to get out of that! I need to make some changes in my baking! I'm allergic to buckwheat though :(. I was SO sick last time I had some. Oats are a…
  • I've been 'old' for 10 years. I was never a go out and party 'Woo!' girl. I'm 32, so I'm older??
  • Yup. It's probably best if you don't eat out for awhile, if you can. Also, gluten and wheat CAN cause withdrawal symptoms. Being GF for 4 days isn't enough time for it all to be out of your system. It can take 4 to 6 weeks for it to completely leave you. Give it some more time.
  • I have to make my son's lunches every day for school. I hate buying GF bread, so I try to come up with subs. Keep in mind though, he's also dairy free, so it makes it a little harder. Crackers and (ham, pepperoni, turkey, tuna fish), boiled eggs, salad, applesauce, yogurt, carrots, celery (with PB to dip in), apple slices,…

  • I *think* it was around $400, but it was 10 years ago and I just don't remember!! I did get it at David's Bridal. I saw it in a magazine and knew that it was the 'one'. We went there and tried it on, and bought it!
  • My youngest is on daily Miralax as he has a big problem going. I had the same problem as a kid, and somewhat as an adult. Right now, I take an Omega supplement in the morning, and drink a cup or two of decaf peppermint tea and that really helps. Everyone knows that fiber helps you go, and so does water, but its not a…
  • Bread bread and more bread. Whole wheat breads. Pastas are processed differently and while they obviously contain gluten its more compressed. When you add yeast and water it activates the gluten in breads.
  • 100% gluten free. I can't have even a little bit or I'm miserable. This is an all or nothing kind of thing. I'm non-celiac gluten intolerant. Though, what another poster mentioned about a spectrum of Celiac makes TOTAL sense to me! Oh, and yes, you have to check EVERYTHING. I got so sick from some hand sanitizer once!…
  • I'm so happy you've got support! That's something a lot of people miss out on. But yes, unless you have stainless steel pots and pans, you should replace them. Plastic and teflon can actually harbor gluten and other foods in tiny miniscule scratches (I have, actually, gotten ill from my MIL's pots that are ancient…
  • Yay! Congrats!! (And welcome to the club!!) I'm so glad they figured it out. Celiacs is one of those diseases that docs don't always seem to catch. I'm an officially undiagnosed possible Celiac. I gave up complaining and went gluten free. Not until I started getting better did the doc say "Oh, well maybe we should do that…
  • Mine is set at 1500, but I don't fret if I go over. It's a hard adjustment for me because I loooove salt. I try to keep it below 2500 for sure! I think I blew it tonite, but I've been fairly good all week (keeping well under 2000). It makes me feel bloated and gross, so I'm trying so hard to keep it down! I didn't realize…
  • oh, lol, talk about a brain fart! Yes, restaurant fries are not always safe. I usually call ahead to see if they're fried in the same fryer with other food. McD's fries contain not only gluten, but dairy as well!! Our Wendy's back in IL had a dedicated fryer - they only fried french fries in it. I was thinking FF at home,…
  • Not tacky at all! I'd LOVE to have a vow renewal/anniversary party with my husband! This year is our 10th anniversary, and we were going to head to Vegas (where we honeymooned) and do a quickie Vegas chapel vow renewal for fun :). And I fully intend on throwing a big 25th anniversary for my Dad & Stepmom in 2 years…
  • Why wouldn't French Fries be gf? We eat them way more often than I care to admit, lol! As long as they aren't floured and such, they should be fine. I mean, its just a potato... I seriously think my oldest would freak out if he couldn't have french fries.
  • Uh, you *might* want to try reading the thread? You might not only get the joke, but you might also realize that this person wasn't saying YOU need to eat. Just saying.
  • We have a memory foam/latex (??) bed. Paid a bundle for it, supposedly a good bed... and we've had it for about 2 years or so. At any rate, it has permanent indents in it already. It's not terribly comfortable. It was awesome at first, but now I'm regretting it :/. It is certainly more comfortable than our spring mattress,…
