  • My arthritis - as a 29 yo female in otherwise good health - went away when I went GF. Completely. I'd just spent 2 years on/off Vicodin for the amount of pain I was in. No one should have to do that. It can take 6-8 weeks for you to start feeling better after a slip. And if you're diagnosed Celiacs - you're playing with…
  • NO. And I'm Gluten free. On purpose. Because gluten does things to my body that make it very, very unhappy. Eating WHOLE, healthy food, and staying away from processed garbage - PLUS staying within your caloric allowance WILL help you lose weight. Pre-packaged GF food is ridiculous. Most of it is garbage - high calorie,…
  • I usually average around 11/mile, give or take. I feel like I'm slower than a turtle trying to walk through peanut butter, but I'm up and I'm moving. I've decided not to worry so much about how fast I go. I've gotten past sciatica, disc problems, hip problems, and I'm still up and moving. 5 years ago I was in physical…
  • I used to, but not anymore. I log everyday (even if I'm sitting down at 10 pm to finish it), and even if I go over, I try not to worry about it. I also look at my caloric intake as a weekly goal, rather than purely a daily goal. So, I might go over a bit one day, but I'll make it up throughout the week - and lead to an…
  • Yup! Just finally got it in! Its small, but I can't wait for all those great veggies to come in~
  • Doesn't matter - she really should have both the blood test and the endoscopy. But, you HAVE to be eating gluten in order to see the damage to the intestines. It IS barbaric. In fact, its the main reason I don't have a hard diagnosis. I know what happens when I get gluten, and it isn't pretty (aside from stomach issues,…
  • Hi, I'm Amber - and I'm a 34 year old SAHM to 2 boys (6 & 8). I have a small home craft business, and I occasionally sub at the school, and volunteer there as well. Going to work hard at staying active AND logging my calories this summer (summer is the worst for me!). I could use a lot of support as well to maintain…
  • Howdy! June 1st: 2 miles June 2nd: 5.5 miles
  • Yup, 3-4lb flux over night sometimes. Its frustrating as all get out, but it will drop back down. Sometimes if I WAY over do the sodium, I'll feel so bloated and swollen, and see a significant gain on the scale. 1-2lbs per WEEK is normal. 5lbs in 3 weeks is amazing! I've been at this for month and am just now seeing a 5lb…
  • Hi! I'm in! I actually set a goal to walk 30 miles this month, but I'm rethinking that ;D I could easily do 100 miles! I have 2 dogs that love their walks, and I try to get in as many as I can in a week. My kids will be out of school after Tuesday, so I'm hoping to keep them and the dogs active and happy. I also run 3…
  • Its amazing what we grow intolerant too. And frustrating as heck! I discovered a few years ago that I have Celiac. Then 2 years after that my gallbladder failed (no stones, it simply stopped working). I discovered shortly after the Celiac that I cannot have Oats or Buckwheat. In the past year I've discovered that I cannot…
  • Yes, but I'm WAAAY behind!!! Not even starting from seeds this year, as my husband has been super slow putting in my garden bed. He's going to put it in this weekend, and by next week I should have plants in. I haven't even fully decide what to plant!
  • I make everything from scratch and I have a 3 Times Rule: 1. Read the label (on every single thing) AT the store. 2. Read the label as I'm putting it away. 3. Read the label before I cook/eat it. It's so frustrating to get home and realize that I bought something wrong :/. I mostly stick to whole foods anymore just so I…
  • Casein is the protein found in milk. Lactose is a sugar. Lots of people are lactose intolerant. You can switch to a non-dairy milk, or there are a ton of lactose free versions. I agree that an elimination diet is the best way to figure out which you have a problem with. Coconut milk is kind of awesome though ;).

  • I never, ever had a regular period until I went GF. I would go upwards of 90 days between cycles (once, it was 6 months). Unless I was on birth control pills, I just didn't get one. And they were usually horrendously awful. Gluten can affect fertility in some women. Now, my period is clockwork. Every 30 days. There are…
  • I have some seriously picky kids. But, I keep offering a variety of foods in the hopes that they will eat them and like them. It can theoretically take 100 times for a kid to try something before they (willingly) eat it. I refuse to have big food fights with them. I can only do my best to offer them healthy, nutritious…
  • I did W4D1 today, after having taken quite a bit of time off through the winter (after having made it to week 8 before hand), I tried to increase my mileage too quickly, and in new snow cleats, and hurt my foot >-<. Foot feels much better today, just sore, so I went slow and made it through to the end. Trying to run…
  • Hello all, my name is Amber and I have anxiety disorder (and probably a bit OCD). I'm a married mother of two, and most of the time, I'm OK. My anxiety usually manifests anytime I or my children are sick, or if I say something that I fear will be misconstrued (i.e. putting my foot in my mouth and offending someone without…
  • Listen, its really about what You want to do with YOUR life. Not anyone else's version of your life, your version. If being a SAHM makes you happy - and you can afford it? Then do it. If that's what is important to you, then that's what is important. If being a career woman and having a family is for you, then do that.…
  • Flour mix: I make my own with brown rice, tapioca flour, and potato starch. I add in some flaxseed meal to nearly everything too. I've had trouble with some bean flours and such, so I stick to basic. Plus, for me, this is just the most cost effective. Pancake mix: make my own pancakes with the above mix. Pasta: I prefer…
  • I worked nights and weekends when my boys were younger because we couldn't afford daycare, but we needed extra money. I did that for five years. Then my husband got a new job, we moved, and I became a SAHM. I've been home for 2 years now. I love it, and it's nice to not have to worry about childcare if one is sick or…
  • I've been doing workout videos in the house, and using the Wii (just dance). I just got in some Yaktrax for the snow/ice, and once its a bit warmer, I'll head out without fear of falling ;). I just cannot do below 10*. That's just too cold for me!! I try to layer as much as possible. I need to get some wool socks or…
  • You can add me too. I'm terrible about logging my food though :(, I'm working on it!! ;) I've been GF for 4 years now? Time passes so quickly, ha! I went GF in Oct 2009. I'm not officially diagnosed with Celiac, but a GI I finally got in to see about 2 1/2 years ago said she was sure I did have it. But, I refused to go off…
  • If you shop sales, its not too bad... But, food is getting ridiculously expensive. For my family of 4, BK on an average visit is $22. I can easily buy 2-3 days worth of groceries for $22. I can get frozen veggies for less than a $1 (though, its usually peas or green beans). Milk, though, I almost never buy. I buy almond or…
  • My sweetheart, Eva, at the beach. She was happy for approx. 3 minutes, then got totally freaked out by the sand and the water lapping on the shore and we had to leave. We rescued her 3 years ago, and she is the best dog I've ever had. She's so good with the kids, and LOVES to run with me. Though she hates the snow (and…
  • Hi, new here! I finished week 7 before the weather got too cold and too messy to go out (Minnesota). But I just ordered some Yaktrax, and can't wait to get out again! I'm a bit nervous about picking it back up since its been at least 6 weeks :/. Trying to decide where to start again.
  • When I first went GF - yes. The area I lived in didn't have many substitutes (and the ones they did have I couldn't afford). They gradually got more, and I gradually gained. Then lost due to my gallbladder shutting down (couldn't keep anything in). Now I'm back WAY up, as I've gotten better and better at baking GF breads…
  • We traveled 'home' to IL for Christmas. The first day back it was in the 30s, everyone was all bundled up and complaining. We'd been having some darn cold days up here, and I was out in a fleece jacket only (no hat nor gloves). My husband asked where my coat was, and I replied with "I don't need it, its 30 out there!" The…
  • Yes - when the weather cooperates. Right now, its just too cold out there for her (and me!). I log when I walk or run her. I feel bad right now that its so darn cold, as she really wants to go for a run. It will warm up soon enough and we'll be back out hitting the pavement.
  • If you're looking for friends, feel free to add me. I've been GF for 4 years, and that first 6 weeks was really hard. It gets easier after that. The main thing is to make your own food. That was really difficult for me in the beginning because I'm not a natural born chef. I grew up in a house where everything was…
