just use less weight at the beginning.. you will find all kinds of muscles you never even knew you had get sore (they are the support/balance muscles).

Well you don't actually gain anything, but it looks like you did, since your gut isn't sticking out, allows your gear to to take front stage and stick out (lol). Just imagine yourself standing in front of a really fat guy, you look skinnier to an observer than if you stood in front of a really skinny guy.
