You can't really measure it that much without specialized gear. It took me 2-3 months or longer to see noticeable change. I have seen noticeable change since I started this journey in January, but that's more because of loss of fat covering muscles that I built up over a decade, than new muscle growth. Growing muscle is a…

OP you are right. Gaining muscle is very hard, especially when you are trying to lose weight at the same time. Its just another excuse for people who need it. The math is really simple. Intake > expenditure, you gain weight. Intake < expenditure, you lose weight. Gain and lose are measured in months.. days are useless…

Every day, and twice on Sundays. LOL I do it every morning, record it, and compare against the last two weeks worth of numbers. If you are a quick-fix/stress-a-lot type, I don't recommend this strategy :)

10.2lb lost in April :)

I don't keep track of weight lifting--five days a week--calories (no accurate way to do so) but even without those, it is easy to hit the 1000 cal mark with half hour running and an hour kickboxing in the same day. (Or with 2+ hours of table tennis and an hour of hockey game the last couple sundays).

Almost exactly same story. Same formerly athletic background.... I started Jan 29, at 249, 32 lb down.
-
Wow, you look really really good :)

Costco's 100% Whey Protein, 140 cal, 27g protein. Tastes awesome (chocolate, I am not a fan of the vanilla)

To answer the "lifting heavy" questions. No, none of the stuff mentioned in this thread is heavy lifting. Heavy lifting is providing the muscle under work enough resistance (weights factor in here) that the muscle cannot perform the activity required more than 6 times continuously--called repetitions. (with a bit of rest,…

And this one is GOOD advice :)

Bad advice, you can't "tone" stomach with abs workouts.

GO LEAFS GO!

Costco's 100% Whey Protein (Cytosport I think). Tastes really good.
-
Judging from your profile, 2lb per week is not realistic.
-
Keep it going, before you know it you are running the whole thing and thinking about 10k :) I started mine in February and have been running the full thing in all of this month.

Exercise lightly, for exercise recovery. Helps flush the lactic acid. Edit: Also 100 curls, that's a bit too much. Find a weight you can do three or four times for 12-15 reps each.

Costco's whey protein :) (Chocolate flavor, tastes really good)

The stunted growth thing used to be "General Wisdom" from the 80's and turned out to be not well supported with studies. I suspect part of it came from having a lot of short muscle-men. My theory on that is that shorter men are more likely to do extra training (weights, martial arts) and the appearance of a "lot of body…

Ah I see. In my experience, I found with my teams the kids that grew fast, their joints took a while to catch up with the size increase, especially girls, with the hips widening, the upper leg bones push outwards, putting extra load on the knee. Even in boys, longer bones, more leverage/load on the joints.

Wow, 6ft at 13? :) Prime candidate for rapid growth injuries... I coach kids that age (have my own, one each on either side of 13), so that is a big thing to pay attention to, knees especially. However, smart idea to start lifting, it will help strengthen the supporting muscles, I just started mines a couple weeks ago,…

Success doesn't come from some tool or program. It comes from within.

I heard he got in a fist fight with BinLaden over a chess game, over who's going to be the pawn.
-
Let me put it this way, if you lift weights (properly), and don't follow it up with a scoop of whey protein, you are almost wasting your time.
-
Costco whey is awesome. Its good protein, with a low calorie cost. Great for after workout.

Pain is weakness trying to leave your body.

Z is my initial... Z or Zee were too short the first time I used the handle, so in a brilliant stroke I added Sir in front of it....since then it doesn't seem so brilliant at all lol.

Ah man, now I have to confess, and might get my man-card revoked in the process.... I like the idea of Zumba....I am even willing to look stupid--If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at--but I have NEVER seen a guy in Zumba class (I look in there all the time) except I once saw a very old guy... and it made me…

Dude, your wife wants to do stuff with you, I think that's a very good problem to have.

Don't pick up the soap!!! Don't share soap!! LOL, just kidding, couldn't resist

Nope, protein overage is good. MFP gives low numbers for it, and your body uses it for muscle repair, so pile it on.
