Time seems to go by quickly, whether you are on your diet or not. So you might as well stay on it! doug

I haven't tried a fast. I suspect that I would certainly lose weight if I did that - for one day. :) According to Dean Ornish and Caldwell Esselystyn oils are bad for the veins. At any rate, oils are high calorie. :) I don't really miss oils. Well, I'll see how it goes by Friday, my regular weigh-in day. Thanks, doug

I look forward to the day I'm overweight too!

Thanks! I'm in some sort of a "positive feedback loop" now where the weight loss is giving me incentive and energy to continue and also do more exercise, which results in more weight loss. I hope it continues! You're doing amazingly well too, topshopperwan! doug

Thanks, people! Let's all stick with it! doug

Thanks, Clicker. This week seems to be going well so far too. I think dealing with the stress of a stray cat and her kittens is helping. :)

Thanks, people!

Wow, Caliji... You're doing great!

Thanks, people. I lost less this week than usual. But a loss is a loss. Kellimr: It depends on how much weight you have to lose to start with. I have a LOT to lose. :) doug

Yes, every week a bit closer. Maybe I'll get into 2-digits (in kg) by the end of the year. :)

Thanks, people. I am pleased. Still a long way's to go though! doug

Thanks, people. While basically I'm just calorie counting, to be a bit more pro-active and heart-healthy I'm following the Ornish Spectrum heart-disease reversal program (http://www.ornishspectrum.com/proven-program/nutrition/). Basically it's vegan (with two small exceptions) + no added oil + no nuts or seeds. I find if…

Quite amazing. Congratulations!

It's this vegan + no added oils + no nuts/seeds diet I'm on. It's basically impossible to eat too many calories. But it's very refreshing and filling. doug

Thanks, Danilee. As far as being ill, it must be just a summer cold. doug

Thanks for your messages people. I'm afraid my Java Sparrow passed away on Saturday though. He was a very good bird: http://lerner.net/back-from-the-ekoin-in-ryogoku/ doug

Thanks. It's been a good week so far this week too. I'm down almost 32 lb so far! Still a long ways to go though. doug
-
Thanks. Good luck on your weigh-in too! doug

One piece of advice about all kon'yaku, including shirataki. If you overindulge you will feel so uncomfortably full you'll never want to try them again. So I would say stick to small portions and use some simple sauces. Miso is good on them. doug

It depends on your starting weight. If you are extremely overweight to begin with it's easier to lose that in 5 months. If you are 38 lb from the middle range of a normal BMI I would say it's very difficult. I am very overweight, and have been on my diet for a little over 2 months and have lost 29 lb so far. This is with…

Are you sure that's you in the 2nd photo, or did your husband trade you in for a trophy wife? :) doug

I gave up my moped and bought a bicycle and enjoy daily cycling along the nearby river. doug

165 lb lost is... amazing. Good for you. Congratulations.

Thanks, mdj! I'm counting calories, of course, with a goal of 1800. But for heart health I'm following the Ornish Spectrum (group 1, heart disease reversal) plan which is basically vegan, with no added oils and no nuts. When you eliminate animal products, fats/oils and nuts it's all but impossible to eat too many calories!…

Well, the next day, my weight bounced up 0.6 kg and has held at that for two days. So if you consider Friday being a statistical fluke, I really only last 1.2 kg for the week. doug

I see from comparing with another exercise calculator that it does depend on weight. W = F x D after all. So it takes more calories to lug my fat body along. Good for the diet though. I would like to log my exercise calories, but not have them all added to remaining calories I can eat. I'm thinking maybe allocating just…

Thanks. As of this morning I'm down 6.8 kg = 15 lb. Still a long ways to go though. doug

My microwave also doubles as a regular oven so yes, I can try that. I'll give that a try next time. Thanks! doug

I just this minute posted my Mixed Greens and Beans Salad with Ume Dressing recipe, with a photo: http://douglerner.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/mixed-greens-and-beans-salad-with-ume-dressing/ doug

I admit I might get discouraged too easily. But something is wrong. I've been on low-calorie diets enough times in the past to know that what's happening now is different. Every single time in the past I've been on a consistent, journaled, keep-track-of-everything low-calorie diet in the past I *always* lost a good amount…
