Same reason why some people grind their own coffee beans, it does taste a little bit fresher!!! Plus, grains store better longer term than ground flours. It is cheaper to buy the grains than the flour, though I don't know how long until I make up the "return on investment" from my mill. This year with our tax return my…

Crock pot pork carnitas: https://damndelicious.net/2014/10/10/slow-cooker-pork-carnitas/ I've used leaner cuts and it still comes out good! I've also used Alton Brown's "Who loves ya Baby Back?" recipe for pork other than ribs: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/who-loves-ya-baby-back-recipe-1937448

yes.... there's something indescribeable about the physical feel of a good dough....... by the feel, I can just tell a specific batch will rise and bake into a nice fluffy loaf, lol.... it's more than cooking food, it's a hobby. Plus store-bought pizza dough isn't ideal for when we want to do pizza on the grill!!!

A good part of it is because my husband doesn't like the taste of store bought whole wheat/grain breads, but also because I like playing around with different grain blends and I love homemade sourdough. I have Beth Hensperger's The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook, and I have discovered many awesome varieties of bread…

I log almost all fruits and veggies. The only exceptions are when I add a little lettuce, onion, peppers, etc as a topping to a burger, hot dog, or taco, (or lemon/lime juice) since I know that the amounts I add would be under 10 calories and not make or break my day either way. Maybe if I munch a small strawberry or a…

I do a stir fry with chicken/turkey breast and apples. No particular recipe. I just cube up the meat, and peel/ slice apples (about 50/50 by size), spray pan with oil, cook apples until slightly tender, remove apples. Add a little more oil, cook chicken until done. Add apples back. Reduce heat to med-low, add some soy…

https://therecipecritic.com/slow-cooker-barbacoa-beef/ I use whatever beef is lean and on sale, lol..... Used with Ole Xtreme Wellness fajitas, reduced fat sour cream and cheese (along with cilantro, lime juice, and fresh peppers/onions) I can get two 8" fajitas for about 570 calories total. 2 oz of beef, 1 oz cheese, 1 T…

Have you thought about crock pot recipes? There are several sites devoted to how to spend a few hours on 1 day getting everything into freezer bags for a week or more so all you have to do is toss it in the crock pot in the morning and let it cook while you are out. Also, I'm not on any specific diet, but I find that just…

Kiwi. Our Aldi's was clearing out 7 packs of kiwi for 39 cents :)

Ditto above. For each loaf I weigh the finished product after it has cooled to determine how many ounces it is, then use that as the # of servings. That way when I weigh the bread I eat each day, I have an accurate calorie count. Once you have the recipe in you can update the # of servings easily. I don't know how much it…

Use "Snacks - popcorn, oil-popped" if you are using oil. If you get an air popper (they have devices you can get for the microwave now too!) you could use "Snacks - popcorn, air-popped". Scroll down, you can enter it by the gram.

When making lean meats into sausage, often they will add other fats to ensure good consistency. If you frequent the restaurant and plan to have the alligator sausage often, you could always call and tell them you're counting calories and you just want to know about how many calories the sausage is, and if they can tell you…

I'm just wondering, is this in any way regulated? I'm not sure what branch this would fall into, usually anywhere you prepare food for public consumption you need a health inspection, but as a dietary supplement, are you regulated by the FDA? Or somewhow because of the scale are you not regulated at all? I would hope there…

I did this with a batch when I got home... it's young kale, so it baked up REALLY thin. It was very yummy though!

It is a disease that some workers in popcorn plants develop, because of the exposure to one of the ingredients commonly found in buttered popcorn. Also, a case has been reported by a user who ate at least 2 bags of popcorn a day http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-204_162-3239379.html

per http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/snacks/5356/2 Air popped popcorn is 31 calories per cup (8g). Simply weigh out your popcorn before you air/oil free microwave pop to get the rough estimate of how much you want, pop, reweigh the popped portion. Once you figure out how many tablespoons, etc you usually want to pop,…

Though this may be true, considering how she eats I don't think this is a good idea. At least with the cheeses, etc she is hopefully getting enough complete proteins. Considering her eating habits, unfortunately I don't think she would be concientious enough to make sure she is eating a good combination of foods to make…

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend a lowfat wedding cake, lol! Getting healthy is a lifestyle choice. Even when I reach my goal I think I will still be logging. It keeps me honest, and that way I can make sure I am getting enough fruit, veggies, fiber, etc. And often on weekends I'm eating out and don't have a clue how many…

A good fruit wheat beer or hard cider. A 12oz bottle of Leinenkugel Berry Weiss is 207 calories. A 12 oz bottle of Woodchuck cider is 200. Wild Blue lager has 260 cals per 12 oz bottle. These are a couple of my faves that should be available at most well-stocked bars. But, if you can get a fruit beer or cider on tap (or…

If it's within your calorie budget, it shouldn't matter in regards to weight loss. I'd say as long as you can keep your macros (including total and sat fats) balanced on the days you eat it, you should be ok in other regards. As far as sodium goes, you can go to reports, nutrition, and select sodium to see where you're at…

Also, google orange juice salad dressing recipe. I think that would go well with salads too. Again, this has a little oil but looking at the recipes I don't think it would be too 'oily'.

Though Balsamic is a vinegar, a good, well-aged balsamic does not have as strong of an acidic tone that most people associate with vinegar. In general, the older and thicker a balsamic is, the less acitic tasting it is. I just popped into my pantry to check out my stock, and while a 3-leaf baslamic is still on the acidic…

I like Benihana ginger salad dressing. It has a little bit of vinegar in it, and some oil, but the vinegar is not predominant at all and I don't get an oily taste from it at all. 1/4 cup sliced celery 1/4 cup soybean oil (or light oil of your choice) 2T chopped onion (I prefer sweet onions) 2T white vinegar 1T tomato paste…

It would probably help if you kept up with your diary, to ensure your're getting good macros. Probiotic yogurt, or just regular intake of any yogurt, should help. Make sure you're getting enough fiber with fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Everyone has their own preference for macro tracking, but IMHO I would recommend…

I like my Zumba classes! I'm not very coordinated and it takes me a while to learn new steps/combinations, but it's fun. :) Remember to bring some water, and if you have large breasts, it helps to get a no-bounce sports bra....:blushing: ...although I wouldn't recommend going on an incline treadmill before class- got to…

I'm guessing that the majority of the oil used for the popping of the corn is not absorbed into the finished product. I've switched to an air popper, it's nice to try out different varieties of popcorn. I really like the small-kernel type, we have one that has virtually no hull, which is nice for my 3-year old.
