Hi Sammy - I too have struggled with keeping friends involved with MFP. They tend to be very motivated at first..... then they wander away to resume their poor habits. I've been involved within MFP for over 3 years. I had a break in my logging that dropped my streak back to zero. I've restarted the streak and have it back…

This post is spot on! I travel quite often for my work and refuse to let my business travel become an excuse for NOT staying committed to my fitness plan. When I check in, I ask the staff checking me in to put me in a room that is located near the fitness center. If I pass the center as I'm going to/from my room, it's a…

Setting intermediate goals can be helpful. I have goals on my bulletin board that show three intermediate goals that are linked to definite dates. What is your goal of loss per week? Let's say it was 2 lbs, then perhaps an intermediate goals of 10 weeks out and 20 lbs lost would be a nice intermediate goal. This would put…

This is perfect advice! It works and it's the easiest way to get back on track!

I have used a couple of the sleep apps (Mindifi Sleep/Relax), Sound Sleep, & Sleep Time. Neither of these have elements for tracking weight loss that I'm aware of. On the general topic of Sleep apps.... Mindifi is very good for helping guide me to sleep when certain situations occur (injury, insomnia, anxious, etc). It's a…

I have had the privilege of watching a good portion of your transformation here through MFP. What an accomplishment! What a ride you have been on! I have pride in you and your efforts. Anyone that has been on a journey similar to you, they know full well that it is NOT always easy....it is NOT always fun. Still you…

Any tips on how to know who is subscribed to my blog on MFP? I don't see how that might be seen...but perhaps I'm just not familiar enough with the tool.

I started to share some of my thoughts on my MFP blog. I'm a bit older (52) and (I hope) wiser about some of the decisions I am making at this stage of my life. I was in the U.S. Army for almost 10 years and was a Drill Instructor and trained as a Master Fitness Instructor. I look to meld my knowledge, experience and…

Some Americans (at one time including me!!) are obsessed with protein. My vegan friends (you included) ask questions about where they can get their protein. Years ago, athletes used to eat thick steaks before competition because they thought it would improve their performance. Protein supplements are sold at health food…

First off, I'm sorry you are being taunted. Weight bullying or teasing happens to a lot of people in many different places – in work, in school, at home, and even between friends. Just because it happens often does not mean it’s right. In fact, weight-related bullying is wrong regardless of the circumstances. Being teased…

I'd have to turn back the clock 13 years....I'm 52. Still, your timeline and goal are great. Keep your focus and you will be amazed at what you can achieve! If you need motivation and support, the friends on MFP are wonderful. I've dropped 50+ lbs in under a year. Best wishes to you with your journey! Regards, Dave

I've done two rounds (not back to back) of Insanity. I'm also a P90X enthusiast. Insanity is touch, but you can make great progress with the program. Just stay with it. MODIFY as you need to...I did initially....now not so much. Watch the people in the background or off to the side, there will typically be someone who is…

Body odor can vary from person to person. Obviously, the level of activity can impact the amount of perspiration. When the prespiration hits the air, bacteria mixes with it and this mixture causes the smell. An environment with lots of bacteria will also cause a higher level of foul smell. You'll notice many gyms spray air…

Well done.....and congrats on your progress so far. It's not easy and there are challenges. Still, the support and encouragement from MFP friends can and does help! Best of luck to you as you push forward. I am open to new MFP friends. If you'd like to add me, I'd be happy to offer you encouragement and assist with answers…

Congratulations on taking control of YOUR life. Almost everyone (except the narcissistic few people) struggle with our self image from time to time....some have greater struggles. Allow me to tell you that you are an attractive woman (I'm allowed to comment, ....my PDFL [Prom Date for Life....aka my wife] says it's OK. You…

just turned 52 last month. Fitness in my 6th decade (yeah after 50, I'm in my 6th decade) if tough....but with help from family and extended friends on MFP....I'm making progress. I'm open to mature and young friends alike!

I too didn't want to rest...I'm WAY to focused nowdays (9 months ago....not so much). It was a little tough at times....but it worked for me.

Sooo many Steelers haters. WOW! I'm sorry you haters have never had the success of the Black & Gold! Maybe someday...then again...likely NOT. As for teams I love to hate.... the Ravens, Cry Baby Brady's team, the Filtha-delphia Flyers, and WVU (just because).

I've done a round of Insanity and I'm now on a 3rd round of P90X where I'm mixing Insanity in on the cardio days. These programs both offer great organization to a workout plan. Keep it going...you will do great. As both Sean T and Tony H say on the DVDs, modify as you need to. NONE of us "regular folks" will be able to do…

Well done! Congrats!! Enjoyed the newspaper article!

Well done (and said)! It is sad that there are people who need to say things like this to try to appear cool. However, the lack of cool on the part of this young man was evident in his statement and cowardliness. Perhaps your admonishment will make him STOP and think before he comments in the future.

I have a HRM that I wear for activities. What I found it that while cutting grass, working in the yard, etc, I burn a significant amount of calories. So, I use the general gardening option and list the calories off of my HRM that I've collected to show the effort.

Here is my best advice. I can't take credit for this as the advise comes from Dr. Steve Covey (author of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People). While the advise was perhaps NOT intended towards nutrition and dieting....it works (at least for me). The advise is to plan your day. Here is where some flexibility in applying…

DangerJim71 is ALL OVER IT. You are doing this for you. If your BF is the true love of your life, then his love is enough to sustain you to do what you need to do for your health. You might try approaching this from the point of view of his health and being very saddened by health issues that might befall your BF. If you…

Setting realistic goals is a great start. I read a GREAT poster recently that put things in a wonderful perspective. The saying on the poster went like this: PATIENCE! Let's be realistic here. You won't drop two jean sized in one day. You won't lose fifty pounds in one month. You are going to binge every now and then. You…

When I worked in an office building, they also didn't allow it (risk of falling). I have been working mostly out of my home office for the past 6 years. I'm tall (6'2") and I found the most of the balls do not position me at a height that is comfortable for working at my desk or laptop workstation. I'd also not that after…
