  • What wkwebby said. BUT if you are used to snacking and don't want to stop, or if you must snack due to medical conditions, think about 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big meals plus snacks. I plan afternoon and evening snacks into my day because I KNOW I will snack. 8^)
  • As the others have said, it's not an exact number. I agree about not obsessing on the scale - go by how your clothes fit. If they start getting a little tight, you're eating a little too much. If they keep getting looser, you're not eating enough. I would keep logging to help you see if there are trends in your…
  • Well said, Laura! I have to log. It's so easy to get off track, otherwise. And you're right about this not being a diet; like Weight Watchers says, it's a lifestyle! I am made a few changs, but most of the time, I'd eating the sam foods I always have, just less.
  • Actually, it's turbinado sugar, not brown sugar - large crystals Thanks for the recipe - sounds delish!
  • Just shy of 5'4". My main goal is 149 lbs - almost there! (I had a kind of subgoal to get under 200.) My maybe-goal is 129, which I think is what I weighed in college or early marriage. But I want to stay at 149 for awhile to see how I feel there.
  • Another thing to watch for is the # of servings listed on the package. My instant rice says "about 2 servings" but there's really only about 1.7 servings in a package. I use grams for everything now instead of ounces so that I can eat every last morsel I'm allowed! 8^)
  • Do an ingredient search on allrecipes.com, or pillsbury or betty crocker. My foster son makes great pies with leftover meat and veg, but I'm not sure they'd be under 300. Right now, I'd love to put butter and cinnamon sugar on them! Great childhood memories of pie dough scraps.
  • I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in Feb 2012, and my nutritionist recommened 45-60 g carb per meal (3/day) and 15 per snack, and I think the total carbs was 180 or so per day. She then recommended MFP, which started me at 1545 calories per day. I did have to tweak the recommended carbs a bit, but not by much to stay…
  • 395 days, 63 lbs lost here, 11 lost before I joined. Loved your Lindt chocolate bars! Feel free to add me.
  • Into the Night - Benny Mardones Brandy - Looking Glass Pop! Goes My Heart - Hugh Grant & ??? in "Music & Lyrics" MacArthur Park - Richard Harris Someone mentioned "Just Walk Away, Renee," but Left Banke had another hit, "Pretty Ballerina."
  • I plan a 15-carb snack at 2:30 every work day. The time between lunch & dinner is usually the longest you go without food during the day, so it's not surprising to be hungry then.
  • Jicama is a good choice for a veggie snack--crisp and a little sweet.
  • I agree with the others above, that if it's hot and you want to wear shorts, wear them! I see that you started at 142 lbs, are now at 131, and are on your way to 121. So if you think you weigh too much to wear shorts, it's in your head and/or it's your body type. Do you want to wear daisy dukes? No one looks good in those…
  • If you're so hungry that it wakes you up at night, I wonder if you're eating a lot of less healthy foods? As an example (taken from my life!), I had a bumble bee chicken salad kit and a peanut marzipan candy for dinner one night and was within my calorie/carb limits, but that is not very much food at all. I could have had…
  • I was diagnosed with diabetes in Feb 2012. I've lost 50+ lbs here on MFP, plus a few before that, for a total of 68. My nutritionist recommended 45-60 grams of carbs for each main meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and 15 g for snacks (afternoon & before bedtime), with a max of 180, I belive it was. I haven't paid much…
  • I also love OUaT and Grimm. Haven't watched the season finale of OUaT yet, but I probably will this weekend.
  • Luna's Coconut Dream (?) is like an Almond Joy. Nothing wrong with a little chocolate, unless you can't stop. Viactiv makes a calcium supplement chew that comes in chocolate - also caramel. Sometimes that's my dessert for the day!
  • Can you split a can with someone, or save part of it for later? We like a huckleberry soda that comes in 12 oz bottles and is kind of expensive ($1.69 each). So the last two times, I've had 4 ounces and my hubby has drunk the other 8 ounces. I loved the taste, was reasonably satisfied, and had room for more "real" food…
  • Thank you for sharing your before-and-after pix, Laura! You look wonderful, but the best part is that you FEEL wonderful. You are an inspiration to all of us. I think it's especially cool that you didn't have a health scare like I did, you just decided that you were going to do it! Much success to you in finishing your…
  • I am also a type 2 diabetic. I've lost 68 lbs (the last 57 on MFP since Feb 2012). Yes, you need carbs. My nutrtitionist said 15 g for snacks, 45 - 60 for meals. I use the calories MFP calculates plus the carb guidelines. You get more food/feel more full when your carbs are not in juice or soda. I eat a lot of prepared…
  • Lots of ice is what keeps me drinking water. I finally figured that out when I realized that I drank lots of water at restaurants but very little at home. I now keep 2 ice trays in the freezer at work and easily drink 6 cups of water at work and 3 - 6 cups at home.
  • Welcome, Stephanie! I've been on MFP since Feb 2012 and have lost 57 lbs since then. There's a great community here, whether you're looking for people in the same area, age, sex, amt of weight to lose, exercise - you get the idea. Check out my profile, if you wish, and feel free to add me as a friend. Good luck to you!
  • dannon oikos nonfat blueberry yogurt, dried orange-flavored cranberries, dried blueberries, toasted almonds
  • Other than babysitting, my first real job was as a typist/catalog-stuffer in Southern California while I was in junior college. We typed address labels, stuffed catalogs in envelopes, glued on the addess labels, sorted them by zip/province code, stuffed them into mail bags, and took them to the post office. The company…
  • Wow--lots of comments on this topic! I read the first page, and don't have time to read the rest. If I'm not reading my Kindle while on my stat bike, I get tired after 10 - 15 minutes; I can only go that long when I count to 1000 down-pedals on my right foot. But if I read my Kindle, I can go 20 - 30 minutes without even…
  • blair.com usually has seersucker capris - very comfortable, cool, and inexpensive. Some have drawstring waists, some are just elastic.
  • <Arggggh! How do you delete a post you made by mistake?> Those "lick, bite, suck" posts and the '____ the person above you" posts.
  • I started drinking more water when I realized I drank lots of water at restaurants and figured out it's the ice water. It also helps me to set a time limit. I fill a 24 oz glass about 2/3 water and 1/3 ice and drink one between breakfast and lunch, another by/with dinner, and one before bed.
  • My day is when I wake up until I go to bed. When I have my "bedtime snack" at 1 a.m., I still count it as the same day. One of my friends has started posting her meals as midnight-6 a.m., 6 a.m.-noon, noon-6 p.m., and 6 p.m.-midnight. Just do what works best for you. Remember, you can set up the diary the way you want, so…
  • I don't really like the flavored waters, though a little fruit (orange or watermelon are nice) is OK. Do you drink water when you're at a restaurant? If so, you may find that you'll drink more water if it's ice cold. That's what I figured out for myself. I use an insulated Tupperware tumbler at home (24 oz), fill it with…
