If my pop went on a diet, I think that would be a good thing for my whole family. As far as diet soda goes...it's controversial (clearly)...so you decide what's best for you and drink at your own risk.

Some Weight Watchers products have hidden trans fats (hydrogenated oils) and that was enough to turn me off from the whole thing. I'm not saying I eat perfectly, but I refuse to give my money to a program that advertises themselves to be a way to get healthy, and then turn around and sell products that could do more harm…

It seems to me that you're a husband who really cares, but maybe you just need to sit down and have a conversation with her about what she's going through. You know, instead of throwing out hair bands (wearing hair bands does not mean a loss of self esteem, trust me -- I love my hair down, but sometimes it's just more…

Focus on the positives and keep up the good work! Gaining 1 lb back could be anything, but not something worth giving up hope over. As for the salt in healthy foods like celery....salt isn't a *bad* thing, your body actually does need salt, you just have to be sure to limit it to a healthy amount. As people often say,…

I believe that anywhere between 1,500 and 2,300 is the recommended amount. High blood pressure runs in my family so I focused on keeping my sodium low for a while but I was eating a little below 1,500 and my blood pressure lowered a lot, to the point that it was borderline too low, so I make sure now to stay within the…

I'm not convinced of this. When I started in college, I gained a lot of weight the first semester and I certainly wasn't waking up early to get breakfast then. I didn't start losing the 'freshman 15' until I started getting my butt out of bed and down to the dining hall for breakfast every morning the 2nd semester. More…

Well said.

The change in lighting and body angle make it hard to see a true comparison between the two pictures.

I feel the same during Massachusetts winters, especially when our daylight decreases to only about 9-10 hours a day (most of which is while I'm at work). It's literally dark traveling to/from work and I work in an office so I feel like I never see the sun. And it's cloudy half the time which doesn't help. It's only just…

Try drinking more water?

I completely agree. I feel like this site needs two different types of message boards. One in which people give their sarcastic remarks for a laugh, and the other in which people can get genuine help from others. I get the need to kick back and enjoy, but not at the expense of others. The emotional intelligence on this…

5'3" SW (prior to MFP): 170 lbs - size 14 pants (tight though, almost could've gone up to a 16) SW on MFP: 159 lbs - still size 14 but more comfortable CW: 149 lbs - size 10 pants (comfortable 10 in some brands, but kind of tight in other brands) My legs can fit into smaller sizes with no problem, but I carry all my weight…

Wow, this just made me gag. Generally, I try not to eat anything with trans fats, and I won't eat any big chunks of fatty meat (it's always grossed me out, even as a little kid I couldn't handle watching other people eating it). But I'm not afraid to eat nuts or olive oil or other such things that tend to be high in fat.

Blizzard! Snow! Burning calories shoveling!

For a more serious answer though, I don't work at home but I snack at work all the time -- I try to pack veggies for myself to snack on for the most part. Baby carrots and celery sticks are pretty filling!

Maybe you should eat some smart butter instead of the stupid kind. This butter is smart and it also balances: http://www.smartbalance.com/products/spreadable-butter/smart-balance-butter-canola-oil-blend

Good question. We've got snow falling here in Boston. If I go outside and stick my tongue out, how long would it take for me to catch enough flakes of snow to equal a cup of water?

My first piece of advice is to go easier on yourself. If you're miserable with what you're doing, you're only doing yourself a disservice. It sounds to me like you're pretty stressed out over all of this dieting and exercising. You might benefit from taking some time for meditation or yoga -- something that slows down all…

We're expecting at least 18" in Boston, if not more. And it's about time! Last winter was such a disappointment without snow. I'm ready to shovel!

My advice is to take it slow, it's tough to cut it out all at once. For example, if you have 2 sodas a day, cut down to 1 soda a day for a week. Then the next week, have a soda every other day. Keep cutting it out little by little. Eventually, you'll be down to 1 soda a week, a special treat for the weekend perhaps...and…

I'm not married, but it seems to me that you both need to discuss your eating habits and find some sort of a compromise. You may have been ready for a total transformation in your eating habits, but clearly he wasn't. As much as it's not fair to you that he got rid of all of your food (pretty childish if you ask me), it…

You have to break through whatever mental barrier is holding you back and just start moving. Tell yourself you're going to go for a 5 minute walk because that's easy, and who doesn't have 5 minutes to spare for a quick walk!? A body in motion stays in motion, so just get moving! And little by little, day by day, you'll…

I'm not great with fruits, I have an apple everyday, usually with peanut butter. And I'll eat strawberries and blueberries too, but I don't like them mixed with anything. But I love veggies! If you don't like them raw on their own....Add broccoli to cheese omelets. Put lettuce and tomato on turkey sandwiches or hamburgers.…

You could have a deaf detective who can only hear the voices of the dead and uses that ability to help solve murder cases.

I never used to get the flu shot, and co-workers would always ask, "Did you get your shot this year?" I would simply just say, "No, I have my personal reasons for not getting one" and that was enough for them to drop the subject. Unfortunately, my doctor began strongly recommending that I get the shot every year, so I have…

I'm also 5'3". I started at 170 lbs around October of 2010, and started at 159 lbs on this site February of 2012. So far, I've lost 22 lbs total (my ticker only shows the 11 I've lost on this site). My goal is currently set to 140 lbs, but when I get to that weight, I plan on making a new goal of 130-135.
