  • That seems pretty close. I suppose, if you got the go-ahead on the 26th, and you are a runner with a solid enough base that you could pop out those miles (whatever length they are) relatively un-trained as-of-late, it might be doable. But, it doesn't sound like you should be doing any running until the 26th, at least. In…
  • What does/did your doctor say about getting back into it?
  • I'm glad you saw my posts. I've been thinking about your questions/experience. I'm not trained in teaching technique, so keep that in mind. But what I think is that at your current speed, there HAS to be more basic things going on that you need to change in order to improve your speed, whereas it seems these things you are…
  • I re-read your question. You are wanting to know if you should stick with Master's, or go with the new guy, right? (And you may have made your decision by now.) There's not enough info here for us to make that decision. I say - just like before - that either one could work for you. Honestly, you've got so far to go that…
  • I'm a swimmer who does triathlons. My recent Tri, I came out of the water 8th/325 overall, five places behind my high school varsity distance-swimming son. I do pretty well on the bike, too, but I will never win a Tri (or even place well) b/c I can't run, as much as I try, and as much as I actually enjoy it. We all have…
  • If you are talking about a couple days, then yes, it's probably still water weight. It takes me 4-5 days of virtual inactivity (rare for me) before it will come off. But then it comes right back on with my first heavier workout. So it's pointless for me to worry about that water weight. If you are talking about this…
  • I forgot to say with the bottoms, go for black instead of nude or white. It will blend with your tights/other running bottoms better. This becomes important as your pants get too big and slide down. ;)
  • If you don't have too much jiggle, compression shorts/tights might be enough. Try Under Armor or Nike for those.
  • I used body shaper shorts. Maidenform makes some - you should be able to find them in dept stores. There should be some "wicking" ones available. I also wear shaper tanks by Maidenform. I just processed them through the wash right along with my workout clothes.
  • Zumba is not my main form of exercise. I like it, but I spend most of my time doing other things. So I'm not current on what is available. In the past, I liked Club Fitz and Refitrev (which is a Christian group). Both of these have older videos still available on YouTube, but have moved on to a non-YouTube format of some…
  • Yes, that's me. (Well - except that I ended up with high blood pressure more than a year AFTER I had lost all my weight. Otherwise, my numbers are still excellent.) But I have to say that there IS a difference in how I can move when I am smaller. I didn't think the difference would be that drastic, but it is. If you are…
  • My 15 year old has made a drastic change that we started at 12. He was 165 pounds. Now he's 154, 8" taller (so he looks about 50 pounds thinner) and one of the star high school swimmers. He has put in an astounding amount of work. He couldn't even touch his toes without falling over at 12 and he felt very insecure in PE bc…
  • You have a 50m pool "in your building"? Are you SURE it's not a 50 FOOT pool?
  • You should ask your doctor. I'm encouraging you to do that, and not being trite. I had a stress test done by a cardiologist, and he told *me to ignore all the "220-" rules and everything posted at the gym. I had it done, in part, b/c my IRL friends were freaking out about my high workout HR - when I felt fine. You probably…
  • If you are working up a sweat, I'd just go out and get wet. If you don't sweat so much, the rain pants might be nice. (Sierra TradingPost, and get on their email list for sales.) The main concern would be your shoes and possible blisters - so maybe add some vaseline under your socks in the blister areas. It's kind of…
  • Just give it time - a year a more. (To get faster than you are now, not necessarily to your 20-year-old pace.) How long have you been working on this? I'm very close to your age and do tris. Running is hard for me (although I mentally like it). I finally started to speed up a lot (**for me**), but I messed myself up on a…
  • Have you looked over DC Rainmaker's review?
  • I like Perfect Bands and have a LOT of them. I have been able to modify some of my weight room routines to use the bands to get very effective workouts. They used to be carried at Big5 here in the US, but now I order them from Amazon. I am not a body builder or strength trainer, but love working out in the weight room and…
  • MFP is probably VERY overcalculating your calorie burn, which is why you are losing slower than they suggest you should. Garmin does it, too. TDEE doesn't work for me. (It overestimates.) For me, I simply don't burn what those calculators think I should. Which makes sense - how can my body use 600-800 calories in an hour…
  • I'm doing the same sprint and oly I've done the last two years. I like them. The running portion is what held me back from doing the HIM again this past summer (I did it in 2014), and it might have been the last year for that one. The race is still not on the Ionman calendar. They have left us with conflicting clues both…
  • You are going to be so well prepared.
  • Also, do you have access to bike classes at a gym? And if so, do you like them/can you tolerate them? If you want to continue triathlons, that at least will help with some type of cycling base. And probably have child care for you, too. I'm going to say no to the trainer option, at least for now. If you find you like bike…
  • Why not just let the bike/triathlons go if you don't like it that much? Don't push yourself to do something you hate. It's one thing to have a bad ride. It's another to dread it every time. All of the things that you mentioned, or variations of them, are part of the learning curve to ride a bike. But if you are checked out…
  • Haha. I had to open the thread, b/c my first thought when I saw the title was "now THAT describes my youngest child". I, on the other hand, prefer my space. It didn't occur to me that you were talking about food.
  • This was my thought, too. I'm a "meet the cutoff" person. I don't have any problem meeting it for an Oly. But my 70.3 took me an hour longer than I expected it to take. That expected time was AFTER I did 2.1 x Oly time, added additional time for the longer and hillier bike (I ride the actual course, and done after a swim…
  • Oh, wow. I never thought about the different ways my question could have been taken. I was referring to tracking a friend during her IM. I ended up just going with the website, both on my phone and on a regular computer.
  • Nope. But it has it's own location in our dining room and my kids joke about how I will break their fingers if they touch it. Also, my bike is black and purple. (A pinkish-purple). I'm not sure where to go with the chart above.
  • I have digestive issues during events that won't show up, no matter what, during training. I agree it's nerves. Mine's different in that I can't handle real food during an event. Or anything with potassium (bananas, Nuun, etc). I don't *feel* like my nerves are up, but apparently they are.
  • The guys I ride with are pretty cool. I blow snot at them all the time. But none of them are triathletes, so the issue doesn't really apply to them now that I've got the "why" of my original Q figured out. (And probably they would have laughed at me, but been great after.) I will ask at the shop, and also at another tri…
  • I planned to do that, but chickened-out b/c I hadn't practiced to *know* that I wasn't exposing myself. I need to get out the camera and practice, I guess. Part of me thinks that is silly since there aren't tons of people at T2 all at the same time (especially for me since I'm one of the last heats to start), but there…
