I'm really liking the look of Wendler's 5-3-1, but unsure of what kind of assistance work I should be looking at. I'd prefer to stick to dumbbell/barbell lifts or bodyweight work as opposed to going into any kind of machines (so leg curls aren't really on my to do list, for instance). I particularly want to focus on adding…

Thanks, everyone, i am processing all responses! Researching Wendler's 5-3-1 right now.

It's 40 and rainy here in Chicago. I hate it. I wish we would get some snow, I LOVE snowstorms! It was my favorite part of living in MN. :)

I do plenty of squats, but my knees shake (okay, maybe not shake, but feel bad) because when I workout I squat properly to at least 90 degrees ... If I squatted to parallel using the restroom my *kitten* would just be on the seat anyway.

The entirety of "Baby, it's cold outside" makes me twitch. Horrible.

Our vet has sent a poem and condolence card. It's a really cheesy poem, but when you've lost a pet cheesy sometimes helps. This is what she sent us when our Great Pyrenees, Freya, passed away at 13 (!) years old. I got to the gate of Heaven today, after we said goodbye. I began to miss you terribly, because I heard you…

Plan for your workouts to take longer until the hubbub dies down, and be prepared with a back up workout plan if you can't get to the equipment you need. The latter can really suck, but it's better than doing nothing.

You know I have a weakness for her.

If you don't care then why'd you have to come in here in defensive mode and threadjack with that ?

I won't even get into the 1200 calories. But, without knowing what your macros are for the day, I'm still going to say that if you want the ice cream and it fits into your day, then you should go for it. You don't need our permission. :flowerforyou:

We have Tim Hortons. Not as good as Canadians think it is.

Technically speaking, a small chuckle IS laughing out loud.

I would eat more calories and more fat. I personally try to eat no less than 50g fat per day.

I sometimes take ridiculous 30-minute classes at the gym for no other reason than I have no routine plans for the day and I like being the strongest person in the class ... I am a total *kitten*.

My grandpa told me I was looking fat in my graduation photos. I knew I was heavier than usual, but that was definitely the final straw.

I looked at the thread. She wasn't giggling at you, she was giggling that somebody would tell you that you can't lose weight with strength training. Any kind of exercise can help you on the way to losing weight, and it's just silly that somebody would tell you otherwise. :flowerforyou:

When I had the same problem, it was recommended to me to start eating a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses. 1 tbsp has 3.6mg iron. You can also check out this list for my ideas: http://www.healthlinkbc.ca/healthfiles/hfile68d.stm

What if there's not enough pie???

I take back what I was posting. Yes -- the gym will fill up. Some will stick around, others won't. Shoot for off-hours to avoid the rush.

http://www.mybodygallery.com/ Check this site out. I find it pretty helpful for this kind of thing.

And just to keep it in context -- I eat between 1700-1900 calories when I'm cutting.

Hmm, I thought we were on MFP, not in a college classroom. This is a forum where Dr. Oz gets cited as a source multiple times a day .... BodyRecompositions.com is the home site of one of the most respected names in nutrition and fitness, Lyle McDonald.

Ah, the roll of shame -- lol. Definitely a derp moment, but we've all had those. I was lifting with partner once and he forgot to put the lock on his side of the bar when he was squatting -- all the plates on one side fell off, I have NO idea how it didn't end more horribly than it did since he should have completely…

This provides some pretty vital information. Are the foods you listed above on your safe list? And can you "trick" yourself into foods you might not normally be okay if you hide them in other foods?

Even if you're only eating 2-3 oz of meat at a time, you're still netting 1400 calories a day, right? Which means you're filling in too many calories with non-protein to hit your goal. My tip is: you're allowed to eat protein as a snack. Whey with greek yogurt is great. You can also do jerky, lunch meat roll-ups, cheese,…
