  • There are some very serious side effects from overdosing of things that people consider all 'natural' like vitamins. All supplements should be taken as prescribed on the label, or on the advice of a doctor.
  • Shanta, you have done excellent so far! The weight you have already lost is something to be very proud and feel good about. Being here is going to help you as well, people are so supportive and there are pages and pages of inspirations for you to browse through to boost your resolve. Exercise bikes are sometimes a bit…
  • There must be lots of tips out there for low quantity, high calorie, good for you foods because those are the types of things that some athletes, bodybuilders, etc., need. Do a google search, I am sure that there will be something that is good for you that will boost your intake daily.
  • Nope, that isn't how it works. You take your 1738 calories that you would burn by just laying in bed doing absolutely nothing all day long. Then, you would add to that more calories depending on the lifestyle choice you made when you joined, sedentary, active, very active, etc. They will then add calories to the 1738 based…
  • From what I have gathered from the very knowledgeable posts that I have read, you should be eating them or most of them. Banking a few for errors shouldn't have that much of a negative effect, but you should try and eat them. I sometimes have a problem eating mine, because I am just so full, but I do try to pace things so…
  • You will find a great deal of inspiration here, and the people are just so wonderful and supportive.
  • Great job! Love the avatar. :D

  • That will do it! When I first joined I just guessed at my starting weight and height, thinking it wouldn't matter much in the beginning, and that was the wrong thing to do. When I went back and put in my real height, only 1.5 inches shorter than I guessed at, it changed me to 40 calories less each day. I was amazed that it…
  • That is very sad, I'm sorry. Sometimes people choose to live life the way they want to, but it often comes with deadly consequences. I wish your mum could have been around long enough to know her grandchildren. You are well on your way to success, and I am certain she would be proud of you.
  • There are wonderful members here, who are such super inspirations, that I am sure that you will feel comfortable and get all the motivation and support that you need. :D
  • I uploaded a picture of it to my folder. It is a bit wrinkled, but laundering it will resolve that. It has been packed away for a very long time. I think it is cute, and I have always been proud to be a geek anyway. :D
  • So I spent some time going through some old clothing I packed away long ago and I came across the cutest pink and navy argyle sweater. I haven't worn it in about 15 years (yes, I am a terrible packrat) and it was one of my favourite sweaters. It might be a bit geeky now, but I would so wear it! It would look adorable with…
  • I stick a great big piece of paper to my scale saying not to weigh myself until X date, which is every Saturday morning. So far, it has worked for me. It is so true what everyone is saying. If you are eating well and logging in your food accurately you are not going to gain pounds, in short periods of time, because of your…
  • I have the same thing happen to my left ankle only, but I always chalked it up to the fact that I fractured that ankle in junior high. It does crack, and swells up, when it happens to me though. It is just weird how it seems to just pop out of place and all of a sudden I am stepping down on my ankle. The last time it…
  • I have been trying to eat a lot of my exercise calories, but am finding it very difficult most days because I am just not hungry enough. I also like to leave some, between 100-200, in case there is an error in the food I have chosen from the database. Some are spot on, but when I eat some homemade meals from the freezer I…
  • I think that part of it might be that they are just too used to seeing you heavier. Also there is a concern, when so many celebrities are looking like walking skeletons, that you might take it too far. Although I agree that it is not nice, and really none of their business, I think that they are genuinely concerned and…
  • Where I live, the water tastes awful! We are on a community well and the chemicals added to it are at the very top of the acceptable levels. I have a couple of Brita Filters, one for me and one for the animals, and I swear by them. It takes all the nasty chemical taste out of the water, and it is definitely better for the…
  • Stopping my knees from hurting and preventing ending up in a wheelchair by 50 because of them.
  • Diann, I just love your teeth brushing analogy - it is perfect.
  • It is so true about manufactured foods, they contain the most hideous ingredients. Good thing you can't tell by the listing on the product or they would never sell them. Sometimes it is just better for you to eat the real thing - just less of it.
  • What do you mean by turn? Go bad? Yes, expose them after you get them home. Even the less nutritious types, like the plain white mushrooms, will absorb the sunlight. Place them gill side up, facing the sun. It is through the underside gills that they absorb it. Mushrooms are the only vegetable that will continue to grow…
  • That is actually what prompted me to post this. A friend on Facebook had that information as her status yesterday and I had never heard it before. They are sunlight sponges! :D
  • I love mushrooms, even though they might not have the same amount of nutrients in them as other vegetables. As a vegetarian, I use them often to make recipes more dense. I think they are really underestimated though, so I have dug up some really super mushrooms facts. They really are magic! One Portabella mushroom…
  • Unfortunately, people in the medical field are notorious for having bedside manners that are not the best in the world. Also, your doctor might have had great results with other patients using that tactic, so she continues to use it with everyone. Sometimes, as others have pointed out, that is exactly what people need to…
  • Oh, I am so pleased that someone asked this, because I was afraid to. Thank you! :D
  • I'm a vegetarian and I have been noticing that both my protein and fat counts are really low on some days. Chick peas don't have a strong flavour on their own, so if I am low, I try and add a half cup of them to something else I am eating. A half cup isn't that much, so if you like them you could eat them on their own with…
  • If it is really only a tiny bit that you need, you can get a quick dissolving sugar at bulk food stores. It is used mostly in baking, usually people who make things like shortbread use it, and it dissolves very quickly. Maybe try getting a hold of some of that. It is real refined sugar, though. Not a sweetener.
  • Stevia is natural - it's a plant. If you have a choice between Splenda and Stevia, then Stevia is the better way to go. I have known people who have eaten it for a very long time and nobody has ever had any type of negative reaction to it.
