  • I have just started some HIIT. I like it because it does break up the monotony of the endless hours on the elliptical. I have to say that I feel like I have not done a complete workout because it only takes a half hour. I think both types of exercise have their places in a fitness program.
  • I am intrigued by the whole body bug idea, and I am considering. The thing that is holding me back is the feeling that I am becoming too obsessed and micromanaging everything. Do you ever feel like this?
  • Totally agree. I'm a no hands girl. It's a great core workout. It takes core to balance yourself on the elliptical. I know if the machine starts to wobble a little, it stops if I tighten my core (it's become a little game to see how still I can make the machine). I also do overhead arm stretches while on the elliptical. I…
  • I love this one too! My latest jamming tune is Train's remake of Rod Stuart's "Stay with Me" it starts out at a good pace, then finishes really fast. I can't help but totally crank it on the elliptical:)
  • That does not sound right. I think I record a whole grapefruit as120 cal.
  • I'm in the same boat. I started at about the same weight with a goal of 140, and the scale will not budge past 145 despite careful attention to diet and exercise. I do think I have added quite a bit of muscle. I have read that the last few are the toughest. I am going to try to really cut the carbs this week and see if it…
  • I own no horses, but I take a weekly lesson. I ride a few horses at my barn (hunter/jumper). My daughter is10 and also rides. I do some jumping. I certainly don't put in the time that a lot of you folks do, but I truly love the barn, the animals, the smell, and I have to say I feel so alive when I am cantering around the…
  • A noble goal, but I am finding the last 5 lbs to be extremely stubborn. I wish you the best, but don't be surprised if things start to slow down as you get closer to your ideal weight.
  • I'm in the same boat. My body does not want to budge off of 145. Also eating 12-1500/ day. I'm staying the course. I'm sick of the gym , so tomorrow I'm gonna do some yoga or something different. I want to lose another 5 lbs, but I'm trying to enjoy my new bod no matter what! I'm hoping by the summer I'll br in tip top…
  • Mine is public, but I know the only person I have to answer to is myself. I made it public because I found myself looking at what others ate out of curiosity, or looking for ideas and inspiration. I felt like if I'm gonna look, mine should be open too. If people criticize my diary without me asking for input, I ignore it
  • Sorry believe. I didn't mean to minimize your diet history. I guess the middle age woman in me wants to believe anything is possible at 21:). Good luck on your journey. I think this site is a great way to kick start healthy habits.
  • I think all you can do is try! I am 46, and I'm sure my metabolism is on the slower side, but I have managed to lose about 20 lbs in 4 months. I have a 1200 cal limit. I eat all of my cals, all exercise cals. I would say that most days I am 100-200 cals over. I have a hard time understanding when people say they have a…
  • Bump! Love the recipe commentary as well!
  • Bump! Love the recipe commentary as well!
  • I love this! My holes are at the pocket grommets. I was literally busting out. Great job!
  • I'm glad I read your post. I'm at snails pace with weight loss, but I havnt measured since I started regular strength training. I'll measure tomorrow. Maybe things have changed:)
  • Try skinnytaste.com. Found this website through a post on mfp. Great recipes with calorie count. You can also comment on different recipes. Sort of a blog style website. Not sure about meal plans though. Hope this helps.
  • I find wii fit plus frustrating because you have to hold the remote and keep pushing buttons to move through the exercises. I love just dance 2. Lots more fun. Dances not too hard. Fun for the whole family.
  • I believe in the starvation mode theory, but besides that, if I only ate 1000 cals a day I would always be starving and ultimately sabotage my weight loss by being constantly deprived and then eventually binge or overeat to compensate. My cal goal is 1200, and most days I go over by 50-300 cals, but have still managed to…
  • I can so relate. I avoid intense jumping like the plague! I do think that it has improved since I have lost weight (just another benefit of weight loss). Recently I had a bad respiratory illness, probably the flu with terrible uncontrolable coughing. At the end of a couple of weeks of coughing, I swear I was peeing my…
  • In addition to changing eating and exercise habits, I think that changing the "all or nothing" mind set is one of the hardest things to do. I have worked hard to overcome the feeling that the whole day is a bust if one meal or snack falls short of "healthy". I have been much more successful since I have been able to do…
  • I had a Butterfinger candy bar for a snack, and then the craving was SATISFIED! No sugar binge ensued, had a healthy dinner and stayed within recommended calorie allotment! SUCCESS!
  • Love Greek yogurt. I however do not care for the 0%. I like the Fage 2%. I just put it on my baked potato at dinner. Otherwise, I like it with some chopped pecans, granola, and a little splenda or honey.
  • I am a nurse practitioner, and work long 12 hour shifts. I used to skip exercise if I coiuld not make it to the gym, but over time I have found ways to incorporate exercise into my day. It could be as simple as taking the stairs to the tenth floor. I also just received some kettle bells for Christmas which are in my living…
  • Last year I had bad bursitis in left shoulder. Went to physical therapy which helped a little, but I was resigned to the fact that it was a chronic condition and would never completely go away. I started strength training this fall, and guess what...it's GONE!
  • Great ideas! Thanks everyone!
  • Hopefully to the gym tomorrow, if I can get through the blizzard that is hitting Boston. If not I've got the new WII dance game which is a blast, and a new 15 lb kettle bell that I wanted but have know idea what to do with it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:)
  • Just bought it. It's wrapped under the tree. Can't wait to try it!
  • I almost always go over my allowed 1200 cals, usually by 1-200 cals. I have still managed to lose 18 lbs in about 3.5 months. It has come off slowly, but I try not to rush it and be patient. I also try to burn cals at the gym so that I can eat more. Do you have a gym close by? Memberships have gotten really inexpensive…
