I've recently lost 40lbs in 16 weeks but I weigh considerably more than you. I've done it by following MFP obsessively so, and hitting the gym 4-5 a week. Good luck!

i'm glad you're feeling better about things. 1000 calories is frighteningly LOW, especially with 80 min in the pool. I would not wait to get a HRM. In my experience, my 45 min in the pool last weekend was computed by MFP to be 600 calories...my HRM read 289. MFP computations are notorious for being inaccurate for many…

Your doctor is way off base and has no idea how MFP works.
-
No, not in my opinion.
-
Just curious how many calories you all think their food has since TGI Fridays is notorious for NOT publishing their nutritional information. And, I do NOT trust Daily Plate... because there is no reliable source to check the accuracy for this restaurant.

You don't need an air popper for loose kernel popcorn. Just stick 2 tbs in a paper bag, fold over the top of the bag and put it in the microwave and cook the same way you do the pre-packaged microwave bags. No oil, no chemicals, just "air" popped in a paper bag in the microwave.

Invest in HRM monitor--I LOVE Polar. They are reliable and a good product. I find the macines and MFP to grossly overestimate.

And even MFP's calculations are way higher than reality in my experience...by about half. I went back and saw that you said you wore a HRM...with a chest strap? Your calculations for exercise seem extremely high. I would start with that and cutting the sodium---which is SO hard..but I think you'll see an improvement. You…

I think you've gotten great advice here so far. I would say that your exercise calories burned look VERY high. I would invest in a HRM and be sure it's set accurately for your individual weight, age, etc... Hang in there, it's a long process sometimes, and if you stick with it you will definitely see results.

I had an hour total body conditioning with my trainer on Saturday along with 30 min cardio--571 cals burned and today I did an hour cardio (elliptical and treadmill) for 517 burned.... Still had a HUGE dinner tonite and am ready to go back to the gym tomorrow!

She's 4--she is not eating for any other reason than she IS hungry and growing AND burning more calories standing still than we probably could after doing 30 min on the elliptical..LOL Feed her and continue giving her healthy choices--you are doing awesome with that! It's so hard not to project our own issues with food…

Did you change the factory settings to your personal info--weight, height, age, max HR, etc? You need to do that to get accurate readings and don't forget to change your weight in your HRM when you lose lbs! I would try 2 days in a row doing the shred the same way to see if it's accurate or it needs to be returned.

YES! I did the breathing relaxation techniques and it did help, but I jarred awake again shortly after...UGH!

Thank you for the input, everyone! I'm not a bath person--but maybe a hot shower afterwards and a cup of tea will help. And yes, I need to stay away from any sort of caffeine after 3 p.m. or so or I am TOAST. I workout 5 - 7 p.m. and go to bed around 11 p.m. A cardio-only day is 40 min on Elliptical for approx. 3 miles and…

You're welcome, Nicole! I was playing with it all afternoon! LOL

In my personal experience, the readouts from the machines even with age, weight and target HR entered is very off from my HRM readings.

While the response may be slower--the result - body's reaction is the same. If I eat enough strawberries to equal the same amount of sugar in a piece of watermelon--yes one is higher on the GI than the other (referring to response time)...but it's still sugar consumed and results in excess sugar consumed being stored as…

I agree. Nutritionists and endocrinologists wouldn't treat and educate via the glycemic index if "natural" sugar was somehow better/less harmful to our insulin response than processed sugar. I shake my head reading the same posts about how sugar from fruit "doesn't count" or should be consumed with fiber/protein etc. It…

I 10000% agree with this. Sugar is sugar, IMO--which is why there is a thing called the glycemic index. I try to stick with berries which are much lower on the glycemic index.

Bolthouse Farms Purely Protein Chocolate Milk. :)

You're very welcome! :)

Exactly--a lifechange. i really just wanted to share how beyond logical comprehension our bodies can be and to not give up. :)

That's why I don't officially weigh-in except for 1x a month--the fluctuations kill me! I'm sorry you are dealing with them too. The main reason I even stepped on the scale last week was the overwhelming sluggishness and bloated feeling...I needed to see what the deal was! I'm saving any optimism on permanent weight loss…

You are NOT alone. I suffer terribly during ovulation--mittlschmertz, as the experts like to call it. LMAO. More painful cramps than when it's TOM...seriously! I don't feel like I've found the key per se...but I am thankful for the reminder that I'm just human and that I will never understand my body! LOL
-
Becky--I've heard that's a great workout! Definitely think about investing in a HRM--it's so worth it so you don't have to wonder and guess the calorie burn! I do 30 min intense strengthening/bootcamp/weight lifting (depending upon the day) with my trainer and log it as cardio and usually burn between 140 - 190 and am…

my trainer is part of the gym I work out at. My gym is $21.49 a month (with tax) and my trainer is officially 1x a week and $100 a month for that--so $121.49 a month for unlimited use of the gym and trainer. I actually didn't start my training until 3 months into paying for the sessions, so I have a bunch of sessions…

I go backwards for 1 minute every 10 minutes during a 40 min workout--so 3x for 1 minute....It's good for the hamstrings!

Everyone's doing fantastic...keep up the great work!

I finally found this thread! Monday: 50 crunches, 25 push-ups, 3.25 mi in 40 min on the elliptical - 344 cals 1.10 mi in 20 min on the treadmill - 146 cals Tuesday: 50 crunches, 25 push-ups, Leg workout with trainer - 188 cals The following circuit repeated 4x: lunges on incline step (4 risers) with 15lb bar on shoulders -…
