Here is how I learned to squat properly (and you can practice this at home in front of a mirror) - put a small bucket on the floor where your butt should end up, put a broom across your shoulders in the correct position, then bodyweight squat until your butt taps the bucket, and stand back up. Have someone film you as you…

What has worked pretty well for me is to focus on protein. It is also working well for my obese partner. Change your settings to 30% protein (30% fat and 40% carbs) and make sure you meet that protein goal, every day. Might help, worth a try?

I disagree that SL 5x5 isn't a "bodybuilding" program. Any program whose intent is to improve your muscular physique is a "bodybuilding" program. It's top of the list on Bodybuilding.com - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/5-best-bodybuilding-programs.htm I'm actually doing SL 5x5 twice a week and my third session is focused…

SL 5x5 has you start off with an empty bar on all 5 lifts. Then you add 5 pounds each workout. This gradual progression helps you become accustomed to the lift, learn proper form and gain confidence. Don't feel dumb or bad that you are lifting only an empty bar, everyone is supposed to do that who uses this program.

Plus, it's rare that someone who is underfeeding is able to maintain it for long enough to lose all the weight they need to lose. Often, they give in to cravings and binge....resulting in shame and possibly, purging. Or, they give up because the dificulty of maintaining a VLCD is too much to handle. So they go back to…

If you are having a blood sugar crash, you may have gone too long without food or you may have eaten something that spiked your insulin levels. To stop that from happening, I can't go more than 4 hours without food and I cannot have certain sugary/processed carb foods. Pancake syrup (liquid sugar) spikes my insulin, for…

Before you can "listen to your body", you have to get your hormones working properly, because hormones are what cause hunger pangs and satiation sensations. If you've been underfeeding, then it is highly likely that they are NOT working properly. Google leptin, ghrelin, insulin, and metabolic hormones. Starvation "mode"…

And people say...use the search function blah blah blah. Well, maybe what the member found didn't exactly answer their question, or maybe they were unaware of the search function at all, or maybe they didn't want to hijack some elses thread. It's no skin off your nose to ignore their thread or even (*gasp*) help them out.…

I didn't see it mentioned here anywhere, but my experience overseas was that the 1st Floor was NOT the floor with the exit from the building. That was the Ground Floor or the Lobby. The 1st floor over there was what our elevators show as the 2nd FLoor in the US. So the elevator panel went G, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

My gym has no deadlift setup. I have to use a bar from one of the benches or the squat rack for deadlifts, and do them out on the open floor. So no, I do not drop the weights. I'd probably be escorted out of the gym!

5x5 isn't a bodybuilding routine? Squats, Bench Presses, Rows, Deadlifts, and OHL's? The best compound lifts around!! I don't do pink dumbbells.

I've tried that, Mary. I don't lose weight eating more. My BMR is 1270, my maintenance is about 1700 sedentary, 1900 including purposeful exercise. I've averaged food intake of 1350 for April and 1375 for March. I averaged 1170 in Jan and Feb and I did lose, but that stopped. I've tried eating 1500 for a month or two, I've…

No, very shortly, you'd run out of adequate weight. I have been doing this a month and am currently squatting #80 and deadlifting #130.

I do an ab workout after each 5x5 workout. Depending on where I'm working out (home or gym), it's either hanging leg raises, slant board crunches or planks. Only takes about 10-15 minutes extra.

Age is just a number. More important is what kind of a person he is, how he treats my children and I, and whether our lifestyle philosophies mesh. That said, my partner of 9 years is 9 years younger than I am. My last X-husband was 11 years older. I also had a long-term relationship with a guy was was 21 years older than I…

I would have to say...her chin. When she was 4, she and her sister were playing flying ninja's and I yelled at them to stop. Sister stopped, she didn't. Emergency room ($200) and several stitches later...She also managed to get up onto a chair and then crash over backwards (with the entire family within arms reach!!)…

I do Stronglifts 5x5 also. It's 5 sets of 5 reps of 5 different compound exercises, divided into two workouts. Simple, and very effective!

My girls and I, goofing off for the webcam. My oldest (standing behind me) took about a billion 'duckface' photos of herself, so we mocked her a lot... .

To the poster who scoffed at wanting to be this accurate...it IS a big deal with a dietary goal of 1200 cal vs a man's 2500 calories. There is a study that concluded that overweight women tend to understimate their intake by over 20%. That's 240 calories (of a 1200 calorie diet), which can severely limit or even stall…

I  that feeling. It means I've accomplished something! If my muscles don't feel anything, then I'm not actually working them and am basically just wasting my time (hate wasting my valuable time!!). Not sore or painful, just a little like jello

I like this visual - I found that, when my form is correct, the squat is a lot easier than when not. I had to correct mine, because it was all whacked out at first. I practiced by putting a small bucket under my butt at the point I should be lowered to, and then putting a mirror to one side and squatting with no weights…

Hmph. Back when I started messing around on the internet, oh about a million years ago (really only 13 yrs ago), BUMP was how we used to move a thread back to the top of the list of threads. Forums show the most recent activity at the top, so putting a BUMP on it will bring to 1st place. We had all sorts of cute and dumb…

I am 5'5". When I started MFP, I weighed about 185-190, not sure really (scale was inaccurate). I wore a size 12/14 dress/pants and an XL or XXL shirt. I am still 5'5" . I now weight 149 and am size 5/6 and a S or M shirt.

I made a batch last night. 2 scoops chocolate protein powder (30g ea) 1cup uncooked oatmeal (I used quick oats). 1/2 cup egg whites 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter 2 tablespoons sweetened coconut (may omit or substitute mini chocolate chips) Mix well Spray 8x8…
