There are lots of form videos out there. I have found this one to be the most helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs_Ej32IYgo He shows lots of examples of both how to do things and how NOT to do them. I rewatch it every so often to make sure I am keeping all the important points in mind. (Edited to add: I was…

I was just reading an article on wrist pain during push ups: http://reembody.me/2013/10/05/sore-wrists-during-push-ups-lets-fix-that/ I haven't had time to try out his suggestions yet, so I don't know if it would help, but it's probably worth checking out.

These videos by Allan Thrall have helped me enormously as an absolute beginner: Squat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs_Ej32IYgo OHP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wol7Hko8RhY Bench: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYKScL2sgCs Deadlift: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1IGeJEXpF4 They go into lots of detail and are…

This is what I really appreciate about CrossFit. No one has ever given me the impression that they assume that I am there to lose weight. And I haven't heard it come up with anyone else unless that person specifically has stated that that is one of their goals. There have been many times in my life in which I started to…

I was just reading about this cookbook of recipes that are meant to be both healthy and cheap: Article Here: http://theplate.nationalgeographic.com/2014/08/01/a-cookbook-to-help-food-stamp-recipients-cook-cheaply-becomes-a-massive-viral-hit/ Free PDF Copy Here: http://www.leannebrown.ca/buy/good-and-cheap I haven't tried…

I'll give it a try.

The author of this article tested out a ton of chub rub solutions. She was just testing for general walking around in dresses and skirts, but some of the possibilities would work for running too I think. http://www.xojane.com/healthy/chub-rub-thigh-chafing-solutions

To begin with, I don't think you've given it anywhere near enough time. According to your profile you are only trying to lose 17 pounds. This means you can't really expect a healthy weight loss of more than .5 pound a week. It will take a while to see that loss. Don't worry about the new scale. As long as you're weighing…

It depends on what you want to use the measurement for. If you just want to track changes then the belly button is a nice point of reference. If you are ordering clothes online though, then you probably will want to measure a few inches up from the belly button at the narrowest point of the waist. The numbers might not be…

I've done various online calculators. I think the most accurate one was the military calculator at fat2fit radio: http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/ Just make sure you measure your waist in the correct place. For the military one it's a few inches above your naval. You can also try a few different online calculators…

Are those the only times you've weighed yourself? Your weight fluctuates daily, so you could have taken your initial weight at a low ebb and your second weight at a higher point. I think it's a good idea to weigh every day and record your weight for awhile. I've done it for a year, but even a month or six weeks of data…

For me it was Junior High School Gym class. This is where movement went from something that I could do unselfconsciously and with joy to something that made me feel constantly embarrassed and incompetent. Playing team sports with adolescent boys is not the route to finding joy in movement. I think this was also the period…

For something like scrambled eggs, which can be prepared any number of ways, you are better off either entering each ingredient you used separately or else using the Recipe feature to create an entry that you can use repeatedly. The database is only really good for ingredients, it's not that helpful for a dish that…

Send it back and get something that fits. You can't lose that many inches in a month. I've lost 40 pounds this year and I've only lost about 5 inches from my waist in that time.
-
I've lost close to 70 pounds eating around 1700 -1900 calories, 40 of those in the year since I joined this site. 50 pounds in a year might be possible, but I think focusing on that sort of goal can sometimes be demotivating. I know I gave up on some weight loss attempts in the past because they weren't going quickly…

I never understand the point of these posts. Do you want more people to starve themselves? What is the goal? I suppose you can lose weight by starving yourself, but it's hardly healthy or likely to lead to long term maintenance of your lower weight. Yes, some anorexics become very thin through starving themselves. Are you…

I believe that that would kill you instantly. But what a way to go!

Only if you drink it underwater, as the moose do:

You're missing out. This cleanse can benefit you is so many ways. It will balance your system! It will remove toxins! Look:

It is now around 3 pounds higher than my actual weight. At the time I got it, it was about 65 pounds lower than my actual weight! It's pretty funny now when I look at it. The weight is basically correct, but the picture is of a much larger woman.

Losing my all or nothing way of thinking was one of the most important things that I did in regards to weight loss and exercise. I used to think, like you, that if I ate one cookie all was lost and I'd give up on what I was doing. Now, if I want a cookie, I eat a cookie. If I want 3 cookies, I eat 3 cookies. I either work…

Not only can (very) chubby women do yoga, they can even become instructors: http://www.curvyyoga.com/ I did yoga when I was 100 pounds overweight. There will be some moves that you will have to modify, but that's true for anyone starting out no matter what their size. It is worth it to check out a few different…

I like Bionaturae. It's pleasantly chewy and has a nice flavor.

It looks like the British version of Weight Watchers. Here's what the British Dietetic Association had to say: It doesn't sound terrible at all, but why not give MFP a try first? It's free and will allow you to figure out calories and portion sizes so that you can sustain losses long term.
-
Your profile page states that you weigh 123 pounds. Unless you are very short (under 4' 10'' or so), you are not overweight and do not need to lose. Focus on eating right and getting regular exercise. Go ahead with your plan to get rid of the scale. From what you've said here, I don't think focusing on a scale number would…

A lot of people will appear (though they haven't as of my typing this) to suggest specific diets, but, in my experience, just focusing on calories is the way to start. Later, if you see that you are getting too much/not enough of one macro, you can work on that. Figure out a calorie goal using the MFP calculator or the…

There are probably metabolic changes associated with weight loss that make it difficult for a lot of people to maintain. I have certainly read studies to that effect in the past though I don't have the data on hand to back that up. One thing I have noticed on MFP (and in general) is that a lot of people want to lose weight…

I bought mine six years ago and I still use it every day. If you like seltzer or soda, it's cheaper and easier than buying it in bottles all the time. It also helped me give up soda. I mostly just drink seltzer with lemon juice now.

Based on your height and weight, that's not an unreasonable estimate. I was in the high 40's when I started here (at 5'6'' and 230 pounds). I think it's best to do a few of the calculators and then compare the numbers with these pictures: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/09/24/body-fat-percentage-men-women/

Which calculator did you use? I think the military calculator is the best one. The others estimate way too low. You can also try all of them and then compare the numbers to the pictures here: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/09/24/body-fat-percentage-men-women/ The number the fat2fit military calculator gives me matches the…
