Thanks for the advice with the chest strap and HRM. I think the strap would annoy the crap out of me, even if it fit around me. I can't see myself using it regularly. I love my FitBit though. I've been successful so far with 22 pounds lost by logging my food and exercise on MFP. I am averaging about 1.5-2 pounds a week.…

I've not personally used it but I have friends who have and they swear by it. I think if you stick to it and combine it with exercise, you will see results.

I have two different calorie estimators and they seem to match pretty closely with MFP. Then again, everyone is different and you get out what you put in. It can estimate all it wants but only I can determine how hard I work during any particular exercise. I say go with your HRM if you want a precise calculation. Speaking…

Good job!! Way to stay focused and not let the scale detour you from your progress. I love NSV and will take those over scale victories any day

I tried reasoning with them once. I said, "Look, what if I submit my paperwork that shows I have low cholesterol, low blood pressure, and that I am at the gym 3-5 days a week?" I was told to loose 100 lbs and try again. *sigh* I've been on the look out for a job with an insurance plan that will cover me, regardless of my…

Try not to get too discouraged! I seem to go through a rollercoaster when it comes to weight loss. Some weeks, I lose 1-4 lbs and then other weeks I will remain at the same weight for a month or more. However, over time, it gradually comes off. Try to think of this as a permanent life change and focus more on your NSV's to…

I've not been able to get private health insurance because of the BMI nonsense. *sigh* Frustrates the hell out of me.

That's awesome! Congrats! Running is addicting for sure. I remember the first time I said "Eff it, let me see how long I can jog before I die" and the result surprised me! I also have a pair of pants that are about 2 sizes smaller than what I wear right now. They are from 2001 and I'm really hoping I can fit in…

I have found that when I hit a plateau and the scale won't budge, it ends up dropping several pounds at once after a particularly "bad" week (like right after Easter and also my graduation party). I learned that it's called zig-zagging your calories, which confuses your body and the weight ends up coming off in chunks…

I'm glad you posted this topic! I've been using my FitBit for a few months now and I think I'm ready to become a FitBit/HRM combo type of girl! This thread has helped give me a good idea of what to look for when shopping around. Thanks!

Welcome and good luck to you! This site has been life changing for me. I, too, have yo-yo'd almost my entire life with my weight and over the years it just kept getting higher and higher. Please feel free to add me if you'd like some additional support and encouragement!

Great tips!! I have ran (ok...maybe not 'ran'...) several 5Ks and one 10K and your tips are to a T! Races are so addicting that after my first one, I couldn't stop myself from signing up for the next one and the next one... One major tip that I'd love to give for anyone considering doing their 1st race: Sign up for a race…

What has been working for me is to make sure I log EVERYTHING I eat...even if I succumb to temptation and have something "bad". I log it so that I have a visual that night when I complete my diary of just how much eating like that can affect me 5 weeks from now. I take a screen shot every night of that screen that says "If…

That's fantastic! Happy birthday and good job! :flowerforyou:

I'm in! I'd like to drop down into the 230's area and losing 6 pounds would put me around 239! Perfect motivation.

Buy yourself something snazzy now! It feels great to try on things that previously had been way to small. Don't go crazy with the $$, since you still have more to lose, but the motivational kick you get when putting on a small size is fantastic and you owe it to yourself!

Thanks for this post!! I always try to remind myself, after a particularly bad binge, that one GOOD day doesn't equal weight loss and therefore one BAD day isn't going to necessarily equal weight gain. You said it better than I could!

Awesome! Great job!

Thanks, everyone! If only I could get the front to look as smooth...haha

Can't believe I'm posting this...but this is my favorite, favorite song to hear when I am jogging, during a race, or lifting weights! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBktYJsJq-E **BLUSHES** haha

You'd develop a love for jogging, find yourself searching for races in your area (5Ks and such) and then, before you know it, you'll realize you have just signed up for your first race! This will lead you jogging/running even longer than 20mins/day...more races...and eventually you'll notice people with stickers on their…

I'm 5'6" and currently 249 lbs. I haven't decided on my goal weight yet, as I cannot remember myself at any weight below 215 (my current goal). I know that at 215, I am still going to be overweight and I will continue to work my *kitten* off (literally, haha) but I am not sure which number I will stop and say "THIS is…

I'm posting a little early but I weighed myself this morning and was so freaking excited to get below 250 that I couldn't wait any longer…

I do it in the morning, after I've gone to the bathroom but before my shower. I know, though, that as the day progresses, my weight fluctuates. I think as long as you pick the same time of day and in the same clothing (or nakie  ) then you'll get a good idea of where you are.
