  • My next 5K is in a few weeks. I'm shooting for under 39 mins now! Haha and my next time goal milestone is 35 mins! Thank you everyone for the awesome words and congrats and support. It means a lot to me. Running is certainly something I never though I could do and each time I finish a race I am reminded of just how awesome…
  • Congrats!! I had a very similar NSV today. My goal has been to complete a 5K in under 40 minutes and today I finally achieved that with a finishing time of 39:38. You can do it!
  • Oh and I should answer your actual question: when I get home I am going to send you some information on Chris Davis. He started at like 700lbs and was able to begin a training schedule to complete a race. He has lost a ton of weight and looks happy about his progress. If a 700lb man can do it, anyone can! :)
  • I ran my first 5K at 267 lbs. I have since completed numerous 5Ks, a 10K, and I'm in training for my first half marathon. I currently weigh 230 lbs and I have another 5K tomorrow! (Excited) I have been injury free the entire time and I attribute that to listening to my body and not doing too much, too soon. If you have the…
  • I pledge 30 miles for Oct :)
  • Are you in a relationship of any sort? jk! Get a jump rope. It burns some serious calories in a short amount of time. I bust mine out when I need to get a quick 10 minute workout in. Be warned...it is HARD! haha But you will be sweaty by the end.
  • I started at 267 and am now 233. I still have a ways to go. My ultimate goal is 165. What helps me is to focus on 10 pounds at a time! I remind myself that if I have lost 10 pounds already (3x no less) then the next 10 pounds will come, too. And the next. And the next.
  • Have you considered zig-zagging your calories so that each week you are still at the weekly goal but it allows for more room on some days calorie-wise? It works well for me. I keep track of my "average" weekly calories to make sure i'm still in a deficit but on a day to day basis, I don't stress on the days where I might…
  • I love when I have a particularly high day and then it says a weight that is MORE than what I currently weigh, I'm reminded to NOT repeat that behavior again for a LONG time (so I can keep the weight off). It may not be 100% accurate but it sure does keep me motivated. The more and more I see the lower numbers, the more…
  • I may be the only person who was not impressed with the C25K program...I became bored with it really quick! Apps the help me run: Sports Tracker Zombies, Run! However, the BEST motivation I have had with my running over the last 18 months has been signing up for races! Since March of 2011, I have done 9 different 5K races…
  • Don't give up on jogging! The first time I tried to jog, I made it 30 seconds before I wanted to die. I stuck with it though and I can now jog comfortably for 25+ minutes before I have to take a walking break. It takes patience and dedication. Try walking next time for 5 minutes, then jog for 1 minute, walk for 3 minutes,…
  • It isn't a current injury. It happens any time I try to squat or lunge. I don't experience pain at any other part of my day. The pain is probably more towards the front of my knee than anywhere else...front top of my knee (if that makes sense). I'm seeing a doctor Monday for a general physical (I finally have insurance…
  • My friend and I were in San Diego for a weekend get-a-way and we decided to treat ourselves to a specidl visit to the zoo. We wanted to ride the Segways and feed the animals. It sounded amazing and I had the extra cash for it! Unfortunately, a Segway can only hold so much weight before it can no longer roll... 250 lb MAX I…
  • I like this idea! I just started training for my first half marathon so I will definitely be running more consistently than I have been previously. This month my goal will be 35 miles. I am only going to count my training running for this goal. :drinker:
  • Are all these HRM being mentioned waterproof? I sweat...A LOT...and I'm worried that I'll ruin any HRM I may get because I am pretty soaked by the time I finish my workouts. I think I killed my FitBit that way...it isn't nearly as accurate as it used to be and I think that is from all my sweat that would be soaked up by my…
  • Today was Day 1 of training for my very first Half Marathon! I not only did the 30 minutes of running/walking intervals but I also still made it to my 60 minute Turbo Kickboxing class...spent 90 minutes at the gym. Longest I've spent there, ever! 1400+ calories burned.
  • Hello! I'm new to this group and today is my first day of a 20 week program to train for my very first half marathon in January! I really hope I can continue to lose weight while training. Reading through these comments about gaining weight scares me a little! I'll report back in 4 week increments to let you know if I lose…
  • Wow, good job on your loss :) Yup I've been victim of the plautuea and it sucks. Fortunately if it happens again, I'll just change up my dates and goal weights to accommodate the delay. :)
  • That's great! I think having a time line helps keep things in perspective and gives mini goals to focus on instead of the big picture!
  • I'm 5'6" and I haven't been below 200 since junior high! My goal weight is 165 and I have no idea what that will be in jeans or clothing size in general. I have a large build with a 42 F chest (which I'm sure will shink at least a little as I continue to lose weight.) My hope is that I will be able to drop to a size 8…
  • Not that this was your intention, but I am so happy you posted this topic! I was NOT hungry after coming home from my workout just now but my NET calories for the day is under 100 and I was dreading dinner... Now that I've read this, I'm looking forward to eating! I wish it were a tray of brownies...that'd be awesome! But…
  • Hey there  When I started MFP back in March, I weighed in at 265. I didn't want to think far enough ahead to put 199 as my first goal weight, so I put 215. I currently weigh 235 and I owe it all to counting calories. Before I joined MFP, I worked out regularly and participated in 5K races. I didn't keep track of…
  • So far so good for me. It's the only way I'll stick to this. I do make changes in how MUCH I eat of what I want, though. Instead of drinking 5-6 sodas a day, I'll limit it to 1 or 2. I also have my calories set at -2 lbs/loss a week because I usually end up going over by a few hundred calories. When it is set low, and I go…
  • Hope this helps keep you motivated...it did for me! This is a comparison I did after losing 25 lbs and hitting my halfway mark! In the picture on the left I weighed 265. On the right I weighed 240. I'm currently at 235 and I'll be taking another comparison when I hit 225 (my DL weight!)
  • Here is a comparison I did not too long ago to keep myself motivated. This is when I hit my halfway point...25 lbs gone
  • I couldn't watch the video until the end...I didn't want to see any potential injuries. YIKES! :noway:
  • "Diet is the key." That was my point. It wasn't the running alone that had you dropping weight (good job, btw!) It was your change in eating habits. What I meant to say, which may not have come across clearly, was that someone who is running, who calls themselves a runner, isn't running *just* to lose weight. At least not…
  • I almost wish I hadn't read this thread... I am a fat runner. I have completed several 5Ks, a 10K, an obstacle race, and I'm training for a Spartan Sprint in Dec and my first half marathon in January. Runners do not run because they are trying to be rail thin. Running is not the exercise to do if you are looking to drop…
  • I focus on breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. If I find that I have to take big gulps of air through my mouth, then I am probably going too fast and I slow it down a bit. Breathing makes a HUGE difference in my endurance with running.
