2.5lb this week. It's week 15 for me :)

Thank you all for your advice. I started afresh today, made sure my arms were in the correct place and did it on my knees. My arms still tired out first, but it was much easier to concentrate on keeping my abs tight and I managed to hold it for 30 seconds, twice. I kinda feel like superwoman!! Thanks once again :)

It was 220lb, my start weight. I'm 188 right now, and when I get under 167 I will never want to see it again!

I'm on track. I started at the end of February and have lost 32lb. It tends to go in a pattern of 3 weeks lose, 1 week gain but the general trend is downwards so I'm very happy. My aim is to be a size UK10/US6 by summer next year, which I hope will be around 135-140lbs. I'm 5' 7".

Well, the dietician's advice is not mandatory to follow. You obviously don't like the advice you were given, so don't follow it. But, you yourself said that you weren't making progress your way. What will you lose by trying the advice for a month. If it works, then brilliant, you can carry on with the new way. If it…

I live in the UK, and I don't know how food prices compare with the US, but I spend slightly less now I'm eating healthily than I did before. I've replaced all the junk with fresh and frozen fruit and veg. I no longer buy soda, crisps, chocolates, biscuits etc. I spend about £600 a month, but that for a family of 6-8,…

I've been lucky to have nothing but support here, I rarely get comments on my diary anyway. That may change today, I'm having a greasy take-away doner kebab for dinner.

I've given up fizzy pop, biscuits/cookies and crisps/chips. But I've added about 15-20 varieties of fruit and veg that I never used to eat. I've cut down on a lot of other stuff, like bread, chocolate, cheese and so on, but I'll eat them if I fancy them.

Walking is a great start to fitness! Even slowly. Next time you go out, walk a little bit further than last time before turning back, like to the next street light or next crossing. Then, try to that same distance, but a little bit quicker, say 10 seconds quicker. You'll be surprised how quickly your fitness improves. Good…

The calories MFP give you have a deficit for weight loss already built in. By exercising, you are burning even more calories, so you can eat those back if you want to without affecting your projected weight loss. If you don't eat any of your exercise calories back, you may find your weight loss stalling, or you may feel…

My neck and boobs have shrunk, and my legs have got very skinny compared to the rest of me. My belly? Not so much. Still have bingo wings too. I'm consoling myself with the fact I am starting to see muscle definition in my legs and biceps, and having faith that my stomach will shrink as I lose more weight...

I knew I was big, but I never admitted how big. Then I glimpsed a photo of me taken at my mums 60th birthday party and I realised I was too big. I started Weightwatchers the very next week. Now I've made a lifestyle change and am 30lb down. 54lb to go till goal weight. I'm 3 months in and my life is already transformed.

I started my weight loss journey with WW and had some success. When I discovered MFP, I tried tracking points and calories for a while but now I just track calories. I still attend the meetings, I go for free because I help the leader set up etc, and I like the discipline of the weekly weigh in. My particular meeting is…

I second yoga. I started yoga last week and my muscles were definitely sore! Apparently, iyengar and hatha are good for beginners.

Definitely buy one! I use mine every day, especially for breakfast cereal and cheese. If you need any help at all with portion control, scales are a must!
-
Thank you all so much! Sometimes I think I'm seeing things, and I'm not sure if there really is a difference so it's great when others can see it too! I started by following weightwatchers, but now I'm just counting calories and logging in MFP.

Have you tried your local council's gym? They're usually significantly cheaper than Virgin, Fitness First and the like. If you receive benefits or housing costs, you can usually get an off peak membership even cheaper. I pay £26 per month for mine (inner London borough) which is less than I used to spend on cola and…

10lb, first week of a diet about 8 years ago. Since I changed my lifestyle this year, my biggest weekly loss has been 5.5lb. I average around 2lb per week.

Luckily I can translate thanks to having teenagers... I was just about to say that Tomhancock lol! I always tell people when they say I do crunches all the time and my tummy isn't going down and I say because you're bulking your stomach muscles up which in turn is pushing your stomach out. You have to incorporate cardio to…

I'm 40, 5' 7", and started at 220lbs. I'm currently 193, and my UGW is 136. As there's such a long way to go, I set myself lots of mini goals, and I'm 1lb away from the next one :)

I was 40 last November. I started at 220lb at the end of February and have lost 27lb so far. I'm now starting to add daily cardio and alternate days weight training in a bid to ensure things get nice and tight as the rest of the flab goes! I'm finding more results now I'm committed than I ever did in my 20s and 30s. I'll…

Eating too much, drinking 6-8 cans of coke daily, sitting down all day. In other words, absolutely no self discipline at all! Am hoping my new birth control doesn't sabotage my hard work...

I took 3 days "off" over Easter, and found it really really hard to get back into the swing of things. Since then I've not had a cheat day at all. Tomorrow we're having a big meal with all the family, and I've scheduled extra exercise to compensate for the extra calories. And that's pretty much the way I do things now. If…

I agree with this. Go, enjoy your meal, celebrate your success! Logging etc can wait just one day. Congratulations!

Bump?

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to make your family join you on your journey, but maybe you can inspire them? It's so hard when you don't have support, but if you just go ahead and start anyway, they might join when when they see results. They might join in once they understand you're not bothered about them…

Frankly, I think you know quite well that your calorie intake today is inadequate. This is a site for people who want to lose, gain or maintain weight in a healthy way. That's why fitness, not diet, is in the title. You may feel you have beaten your eating disorder, but unfortunately it's quite plain that you have not.…

I can do 12-15 reps with the lightest, 2-3 reps with my heaviest set. I haven't tested the middle set, and I was going to start with the lightest. Maybe I should go with the middle set instead?

I bought a £20 one from Argos. It came with the chest strap and is very basic. It tells you the average and maximum heart rate from your last timing, and that's pretty much it. But it works well, and does the job for me :)
