Age: 60+ Height:5'2" Starting weight: 138 lb Weight lost so far: 7 lbs Maintenance weight range: 115-122 Week ending: May 11: 131 lb Some of you may think, "you don't have to lose weight", but I have health issues which require me to lose weight, and when you get 'older' all your weight goes to your gut so you develop a…

I know you posted this in 2011, but I would love to hear your story. I'm over 60 and gaining weight (not intentionally) and trying to lose it. Any advice?

It's easy to make cucumber water or lemon water, by simply infusing your water bottle with cut pieces of them. Try it, you can cut them up and simply add them to a pitcher of water in the fridge.

@vegetables4life WOW! That's wonderful and inspiring! Keep it up, maybe come July 4th sign up for a 5K (lots of towns have them) and challenge yourself to walk 3.1 miles! You'll find walking with all those runners and walkers is a wonderful way to be part of a community of walkers! everyone is so supportive, it's…

I didn't start running until 50! Never too old to start! Unfortunately due to COVID and an injury I had a year off, but now slowly getting back into my run 3min / walk 1min routine. Looking forward to signing up for a race this fall!

I"m finding it so hard to get motivated with quarantine and not having friends to work out with. Anyone up for virtual workouts?

Yep I know what you're going thru. First I went thru the weight gain with menopause, not my hormones have changed again (post menopause) and I'm going thru the Gut / middle gain. I"m starting over with the food log, because I found it's certain food I can't eat anymore. Diet has a lot to do with it. Cheese is a big NO. I…

I've discovered as I get older my metabolism changes every 5 years! Now I'm over 55 and I've started putting on gut fat. I've recently read a book 'Younger Next Year for Women" (there's one for men too). It's help me realize that I need to give myself time, don't look for short term fast weight gain, but rather eat clean,…

Are you getting enough protein? I have found that protein helps curb my hunger, so check to see what your 1500 calories are made up of. make sure you get a small amount of protein with each meal/snack.

Your body may be fighting it, especially if you are older. Hormones play a big part. My advice, don't worry about it, and keep it up, see if you're body will respond in time. I'm fighting menopause, and I was keeping under 1200 calories (with exercise) for 3 months before my body kicked in and I started dropping pounds.…

There is only 1 person with my name! But 914,676 people with my first name! Where are they all? I've only met a handful!

Ok, first of all, you are just a baby! I'm turning 50 so you have no reason to feel 'old'. Second, I haven't noticed any agism going on at old, perhaps I'm not looking for it either, but in either case, when you're my age you don't give a 'D___" anymore. Toughen up girl!

You are being 'honest' with the wrong people, talk to him instead. Maybe he has a health issue that needs to be addressed, maybe he's under stress at his job. In this economy I don't blame him. Don't go off and cheat without being fair with him. Discuss it, work on it. Make a date to have 'it' and see what he says.

First ask yourself why you have to lose 10 pounds in only 4 weeks? How come you didn't need to lose that weight 8 weeks ago? My suggestion to to read "Younger Next Year" (they have both a man's and woman's version. And set a reasonable goal of how much you want to weight 'Next Year". Odds are that you will only regain the…

Don't buy the candy in the first place! I have no will power either, if anything chocolate is in the house I'll eat it. I'll only allow my self to indulge once in a while while at weddings or parties. But never in the house! Good luck!

Yes it's sad but it still goes on. I'm a 50 yr old female Mechanical Engineer. I graduated 28 yrs ago, and I still run into men (both younger and older than I) who question my abilities and feel that I have to prove myself to them. It's no different in the gym. I think you handled it very well, At my age, I've learned to…

Have you taken your measurements before and now? If you are working out and doing some weight lifting, you may be adding muscle which weighs more that fat, so you may be losing inches while weighing the same on a scale. Instead of making a goal of 10 lbs, make a goal to enter a 5K for a charity in April or May. That will…

First of, you can't change your mother, she is who she is. Mine is the same way about health she believes in comfort food and no one is happy unless they are eating. Every time I go see her she gets out the cookies/chocolate candy, etc. I've learned that I am better off not telling her about my diet or healthy choices.…

Everybody had to start somewhere! Give it a year and see how great you feel, when you are doing it on your toes!

When I see someone overweight working out I think,..." WOW good for them,!", in fact If I'm also jogging along and pass them, I say "Hi" and tell them to "keep going you're doing great"! Don't be afraid to work out in front of people. I have found I now have a regular group of folks who jog/walk at the same time I do. I…
