Hi, I have found myself lately trying so hard to stick to my calorie intake, go to the gym 5 times a week and just in general live a healthy lifestyle. About 5 months ago I went through a really bad breakup and within the first month and a half dropped 12 pounds (i was only around 135 before). I have now gained back all the weight, and am trying to loose it the healthy way, by exercising and eating well. I have been working out 5 days sometimes even 6 a week, and eating relatively healthy. My problem is I find myself constantly eating when bored, especially at night, and whenever I am at my parents house I indulge in everything from pasta, to chocolate, to deserts which I never stock in my own house because I KNOW i cant resist eating more then one. 2nd problem is that all of my friends live a unhealthy lifestyle where they eat whatever they want (many times this is greasy wings and plenty of beer), and whenever we get together we always end up having one to many alcoholic beverages (many put me far over my daily caloric intake of 1200). How can I stick to this 1200 lifestyle yet go out with friends and have a good time, or go home and eat what my parents put in front of me without gaining weight (my mom thinks that eating 1200 and working out is "negative food behavior, and that i should just enjoy what i eat and not worry"? For me its really aggravating that the first time around i lost the weight so fast (I do realize this wasnt healthy and this is why I am trying to do it properly this time around) yet its been about 2 months of working out and eating healthy 5 days a week and i havn't lost a single pound or dropped any inches. PLEASE HELP! ALSO if anyone is around brantford area and wants a workout buddy/ healthy eating friend please msg me back it would be GREAT to have someone to go out and do stuff with that is trying to live a healthy lifestyle as well.

First of, you can't change your mother, she is who she is. Mine is the same way about health she believes in comfort food and no one is happy unless they are eating. Every time I go see her she gets out the cookies/chocolate candy, etc. I've learned that I am better off not telling her about my diet or healthy choices. When I plan on visiting her, I run/walk extra time the day before, of and after to make up for added calories. Rather than insult her, I simply take smaller portions, and I don't beat myself up about it. Your mother is never going to change, but that doesn't mean you can't!
Your making the right move, looking for a work out / healthy lifestyle buddy, or buddies! Don't get rid of you old friends, but definitely make some more that share your lifestyle. Join an exercise class or walking club and don't be afraid to introduce yourself to others. As far as the what you weigh, the number on the scale is just that, a number. Muscle weighs more that fat, so if your building muscle you won't lose weight, but you may be losing inches. Ask yourself, how do my clothes fit? and how do I feel? Being healthy isn't about the number on the scale, it's how you feel about yourself. Just hang in. I find that setting an exercise goal a few months out, helps me a lot. I've signed up for the Race for the Cure 5K in May, so I have to keep working out and exercising if I'm going to finish with a smile on my face! Good luck, and keep posting your progress! We'd love to hear how you are doing!

Thank you so much for your reply, you are 100% right about my mother not changing. It is just really unfortunate because she also goes on diets, and tries to workout. The problem is she is not very consistent about it, and has bad eating habits which I have also developed (I eat mindlessly at night normally I eat very healthy during the day lots of salads and fresh fruits then at nights over indulge as my "relaxation time") I wanted not I guess to change her but to do this with her. Don't get me wrong I am not one of those people who has stopped enjoying what they eat, I still eat chocolate probably a piece a day, and I still allow myself alcoholic beverages its just all about moderation, whereas when I go home I see buffet style sweets and tend to be like :O I WANT THEM ALL NOW. I HAVE actually been going to many fitness classes, I LOVE them makes you workout for a solid hour, some of them are easy, whereas I find others I really have to push myself. I am actually considering taking a course in personal training, or hiring one for a few lessons so that way I can make sure I am doing the exercises properly. I agree with the scale thing, but unfortunately when i gained the weight i did notice my clothes fitting much more snug (esp those boho dresses I have a little baby bump when I where them now hahaha).
