  • I have been hypothyroid for the last 16 years. I don't attribute my weight gain solely to my condition. I am also a nurse. I work in internal medicine where most of our patients are hypothyroid. If you are adjusted correctly it really is a non issue. Yes, your thyroid affects many body functions, but the synthroid is to…
  • I went an entire 2 months without losing a single pound but I lost 2 inches off of my waist! You need to take your measurements. Also make sure you are eating enough calories. I know this seems confusing but if you put your body in starvation mode it will retain the pounds. Plus I think 1 pound a week is fantastic! Give…
  • This exactly! As you lose weight you burn fewer calories with exercise. It's so unfair!
  • I moved from Washington state to Iowa. In Washington we eat tarter with our fries! It is delicious and I miss it so much! I especially miss the tarter sauce from Zip's which I just can't replicate. I am going back in October and that is going to be one of my splurges..a Zip's bacon burger with fries and tarter! Yum!
  • Ok, so was having some back trouble and shin splints so I went to Peak Performance and had them fit me with a running shoe. I do think it's going to help a lot but running is still so fricking hard! How is it that I can walk at 4 mph and not have trouble but if I step it up a notch and try to jog 4.5mph I think I'm dying?!…
  • I started the C25K in February and had to quit because of a bad knee, but I still signed up for the 5k and walked it in 47 minutes, my goal was 45. Not bad for a walker. But my knee is better and I have started trying to run again. I just have a hard time with it. I want to love it, I really do! I walk at 4 mph and I jog…
  • Somebody needs to beat Carl! He is never where he is suppose to be! And I too am preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • My co-workers and I were just talking about this. I live in a rural area and I walk or jog almost everyday, usually in the early AM when no one is out. However, living rural, we have been having some problems with a mountain lion. Yes...I said mountain lion. It has been killing my neighbors goats. My friends are worried…
  • I know there are scales that measure % of body fat. I think weight watchers makes one, I think I saw it at Walmart. I also saw one online on fitbit.com I think it works by stepping on the scale barefoot. Hope that helps
  • Just this weekend we had a class reunion for my husband and we partied like it was 1987! OMG! I haven't tied one on like that in a long time, we even went out to breakfast at 3:30 am and I didn't hold back. I was suprised when I got on the scale and hadn't gained a single pound! I added up my calories from alcoholic drinks…
  • zumbacalories.com is actually pretty accurate with the heart rate monitor. Once you get your calories burned you can add it as an exercise. Just make sure to check the zumba calculator once in awhile because as you lose weight you burn less calories. Hope that helped.
  • Its for the new movie "Magic Mike". It has Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum in it. YUM!
  • My friend and I were just discussing this very thing! I sweat so bad when I work out! More than in the beginning. This helps, it makes sense. Of course, I always just say that sweat is just your fat crying! Mine cries a lot!

  • I work in a doctors office. My patients always say that our scale weighs about 4lbs heavier. My only explanation is...you probably weigh in at home before you eat or drink anything and you are probably naked. At our office you may have eaten or drank coffee or water and you are dressed. Clothes weigh more than you think. I…
  • I do Zumba with a group 2 days a week and it is so much fun! You really sweat your hiney off and it's a great workout. You will burn a ton of calories doing it! And the hour passes by very quickly. I highly recommend it! I do have the home dvd's as well but they are no where near as much fun as with the group.
  • I too am a beginner. I never ran a day in my life unless I was forced to for gym class. I signed up to run a 5k in May but mostly walked it. At that time I was still quite a bit overweight. I have started running again and can currently run 1/2 mile and walk a 1/2 mile and I do that almost daily for 3 mile stretches. I…
  • You hope it was a mustache hair! Ewww!
  • I like to walk/jog, I do that outside most days. But I also love Zumba! I do that 2 days a week with a class, not with a dvd. Although, I have the dvd's, your right, it's not as much fun.
  • What is a fitbit and how do I get one?
  • I will be anxious to hear any replies as well. I am in the same boat! I've lost 30lbs, half way to goal weight but only down about 1/2 a size! And I have been stuck and fighting with the same 2 pounds for almost 3 weeks, up and down, up and down. I feel your pain! Sorry I can't be of any help. But, take comfort in knowing…
  • I agree! These are so delicious! You feel like your cheating but your really not! I have one almost every day!
  • Absolutely! I have lost all of my weight with walking. I try to walk 3 miles about 5 days a week. It is good exercise if you get your heart rate up and keep it up.
  • I know what you mean, sometimes it's hard to figure out calories in homemade things. I guess my suggestion would be to have it be a guesstimate. Divide the dough like you say and just count the excess you throw away, consider that a "bonus". I say better to err on the side of caution then to go over accidentally. That…
  • I try to eat good most of the time. I do allow myself 1 indulgence almost everyday. I love the Weight Watchers Rasberry and Dark Chocolate icecream bars, they are the Bomd Diggety! And I just make sure they fit into my calorie goal for the day. Remember your in this for life so you have to allow yourself a little splurge…
  • Try not to get discouraged. I say 10 pounds in 11 days is phenomenal! It didn't come on over night and it won't come off that fast either. Only 1-2 pounds a week is what is considered a healthy weight loss. Make sure when you are done logging food for the day that your not in starvation mode and get plenty of fluid to…
  • Congratulations to the person with the 385 lb weight loss! That is phenomenal! I would be curious to see some before and after pics!
  • Take it from someone who worked with a dermatologist for many years...tanning = bad! It's not worth the risk in the end. Not only the risk of skin cancer and melanoma but the aging effects it has. Not to mention the nasty fungal infections I have seen from tanning beds, gross! If you look at people who tan regularly you…
  • I use the store brand vanilla soy milk on my cereal. A few less calories than skim milk and more protein. I wasn't sure if I would like it but I do. I don't know that I would just drink a glass of it, but it's great on cereal.
