  • You are entitled to your opinion, but if it works and you feel better, why not? :drinker: And if your partner is willing, who are you to judge?
  • Works every time!
  • I don't have calves: I have steers. Mine are 16.5". Never been smaller than 15 inches, and I can remember them being over 18 when I was heavier. I am 5'7" and female. I have lifted heavy for over 20 years.
  • @ Anna I had a tabby named Jack when I was little. I'm sorry about your kitty. The coyotes in my neighborhood got my Hobbes in October. He was 13. I was sad for months. @viglet Strangely enough I have excess energy during my TOM, but low energy the week BEFORE. Low energy but really high endurance. I try to schedule long…
  • I was like a camel and stored fat in the backs of my arms, my back and the tops of my hips (think shelves) while BF both of my children. Once I stopped, those fatty deposits went away, but weight has never ever FALLEN off my body. As for when you should stop and if it makes life easier for you, that is entirely personal.…
  • LMAO...love it! @sarah-agree rows are not fun for me...I love OHP but they scare me from previous ouchy @neon- could you use a plate on your hips for hip thrusts? Or do them with your legs on a bosu or exercise ball to increase muscle activation? @fit-I thought the same thing...but cleaning a person might be tricky...I…
  • @fit-I swing my kids around on days I can't work out...great cardio! @krok-Excellent PR rep! @rugby-I want to surpass my husband...not keep up with him. lol. Keep him on his toes a bit! @step-I don't like increments for weights. I try to stick with 5,10,25, 35 or 45 plates so I don't have to think...weight lifter…
  • Decided to not lift today because my wrist was a little achy and ran instead. Was able to run just about two miles before I had to stop (slowly...very slowly). Anyway I have a goal to be able to run 3 miles in under 35 minutes by the end of August. HOPEFULLY the tendonitis in my ankles won't act up. viglet: Do you…
  • @ krok and fit: I used the catch on the squat rack for deadlift today. It was a little high, but it worked out okay. Did WO B today: 5x5 @ 45# for deadlift, OHP and Squat. I am using my rehab to work on form. My squats were literally *kitten* to grass and my legs actually hurt! I also did 15 minutes of HIIT and 10 minutes…
  • I use the weight room at the high school I teach at for workouts, and I rack my bar on the military rack. So I am lifting from chest height to start (no clean/jerk to get the bar to chest level). I also warmed up with the bar (and when I was weaker with dumbbell shoulder presses). I was in my 4th set and on the 3 or 4th…
  • I was 4'11 and 178 pounds at 11...and I remember not realizing I was fat until middle school when we had to change in gym. My parents never talked about it in front of me. I never even knew they thought about it until recently when my daughter turned 5. She is 3'9" and 70 pounds. Her BMI is just about 25 (should be under…
  • @ fittree, fisherlassie and jcdoer- thank you for the welcome back! I really missed it! @fittree- beautiful OHP! I had 90 pounds on the bar for OHP when I hurt my wrist in October. Today I walked for a half hour and did my wrist exercises. I have some slight soreness in my forearm, but nothing like before. I am sore from…
  • FINALLY back at it! I am slightly embarrassed by my weights because I had to deload COMPLETELY (per dr/PT) to avoid reinjuring my wrist. BUT NOTHING, NOTHING can ruin the high I feel at being able to lift again!!! Workout A: bench 5x5 at 45, squat 5x5 at 45, rows 5x5 at 45. I also did wrist curls with very light weight and…
  • Agree with the idea that creatine will cause you to initially gain weight. You can build strength with a caloric deficit. More importantly, even if you are lifting at a caloric deficit, if you are lifting, you are less likely to lose muscle mass as you lose weight.
  • I use a wide stance with toes turned out as well...wider than my shoulders, but not by much. I could never get parallel if I were to pull my feet in to under my hips.
  • I use an Olympic bar as well...found it on craigs list. Maybe you could have some luck there? Don't be too upset Steph, your numbers are still good and think about how your body has changed! :flowerforyou:

  • Thank you ladies for helping to assuage my fears. I know I'm just psyching myself out and that I need to just grab the bull by the horns and make it into ground chuck...speaking of which...isn't it dinner time?
  • totally this ^^^. I also suspect that she couldn't lift even the bar. Which is fine, but not my MO. She recommended no lifting because like many females she didn't think women do...I was her first patient ever to injure myself lifting.
  • Yes...95 pounds up and I heard a pop and my wrist had a sharp pain...and it took 6 months of bracing, ultrasound and range of motion exercises to get the swelling down and pain to go away. I don't wear the brace anymore, and have been working grip strength. Was thinking about light wrist curls next as an accessory to my…
  • I managed to "trick" my five year old into an after dinner walk by collecting rocks at the beach and check to see if Lake Erie is still frozen (it's not any more...there is open water!). It was slow, but it counts.
  • I took the pic in my front yard...I use it because this is a metamorphosis...I want to wake up someday and realize I have wings...
  • You fear needles, and want tattoos...rigghhhhhhttttttttt...
  • To answer the question that the OP asked originally: Yes. Some of us have done quite well for ourselves coming from families where our parents had no clue about how to eat and thought that buttermilk was healthier for kids because kids "need fat," and that 178 pounds in FOURTH grade was normal because we were "big-boned."…
  • Thanks ladies. I am very excited. I'm hoping being able to do something I love again will help with my stress at work. Even if it is at a much lower weight.
  • ^^^^^^Creeptastic! lol
  • I lucked out in middle school and the high school football coaches taught me to lift. No judgment as I was the little sister of one of their biggest players. The only lift I was never taught was OHP. It remains my hardest lift. I was also not allowed to clean and jerk as ONLY boys needed to do that. lol. You pay the…
  • I know you are so proud of yourself. I am going to be 40, so I know that maybe you think I don't have some of your aging issues, but I have lost 80 pounds three times (almost, working on that last 80 still). I joke that I look a bit like a shar pei at this point, but last time I went to see my GP, I was 178 (I'm 10 pounds…
  • We all have a "sorta dysmorphia." Not a single one of us truly knows what we actually look like to others, even when we know ourselves well. I had a time when I would double take at every mirror thinking there was a stranger in my house. I still don't FEEL successful, but I finally decided I would fake it until I make it.…
  • We must always meet the body that we have where it is and take it where we want it to be. For some people it is a short journey, and for others it's a long road. It doesn't make it any easier for any person that deals with weight issues. I wish you a short journey though...:flowerforyou:
