scared to restart...
About two weeks ago, I got clearance from my physical therapist to start strengthening my wrist. I have been working on grip strength since then, and the plan was that next week I would start lifting again. She didn't want me to lift. She thought that it was ridiculous that I was OHPing 90 pounds (probably her body weight)…

FINALLY! 6MONTHS!
So after 6 long months of not being able to lift, I was given clearance to lift again. My PT says very light. I was doing OHP with her body weight when I injured my wrist (95 pounds), and she gave me clearance for 45 pounds. I have to start over. And she says to move vvverrrrrrryyyyyyyy slowly. So I will, but YAY! I will…

Frustration...
I posted a while ago that I was having wrist pain and shooting pain in my right forearm...I have tendonitis. I am very frustrated. While I understand that as you get older your body doesn't always agree with you, I now have tendonitis in both ankles and my right wrist. I have arthritis in both knees (my left worse than my…

wrist pain
So last week when I was deadlifting, I felt a ping in my right wrist when I switched grip (I alternate so as to not build more strength in one or the other), and since then have had difficulty turning my hand over (think twisting your thumb from facing left to facing right---hahaha I just made you flip your wrist over). I…

Deadlifts...
I was reading the squat-ober thread and took a look at Lydia's deadlift, and I got to wondering. How many people do a wide stance or "froggy" deadlift? I have used it almost since I started deadlift. I kept barking my shins when I attempted the close leg stance with arms outside my legs. (I also injured my back with my…

Knee pain...please advise
I'm back to lifting after a long hiatus. I completed a half marathon last year and did Insanity to help prepare, but haven't touched a barbell in over a year. I also am in the middle of a 30 day squat and 30 day ab challenge (from the 30 challenge web site). So my knees are getting more work than usual. After about 2 weeks…

5x5 Question...
When I am lifting, after my warm up lifts, should my weight be increasing with each 5 rep set, or should I be lifting my heaviest possible weight for all 5 sets? So far I have been completing increasing sets. (So warm ups at 12x 40% and 8x 45% and then 5x55%, 5 x60%, 5X65%, 5x 70% and 5x75% of my max) I have previous…

When you choose a personal trainer...??
Do you look for a PT based on their skills? their certification? what they look like? if they are friendly? Or is it an overall package? I'm not looking for a PT (so don't inbox me if you are one), I just want to know what people look for.

Personal Training certification???
If you are presently a personal trainer, which program did you choose, and why? Was it a class or online? If you are thinking about becoming a trainer, which course are you leaning towards? Why?

tendonitis question...
The day after lifting, my wrists are sore. The day after running, my ankles are sore. When I say sore, I mean painful to use, not post-workout muscle soreness. I know I have tendonitis in my ankles. My doctor prescribed over the counter naproxen and ice. She said not to rest because the recovery time would be over 6weeks,…

Insanity and knee pain...
I just started my second week of the second month of Insanity. Some of the plyo exercises are really hurting my knees. So I'm leaving out the jumping and just stepping lightly (high knees) or squatting wth no jump. I'm concerned about how this will affect my calorie burn. I am still sore and sweating at the end of the…

replacement for seated row...
Ok, so I have lost much of my time because of my job, and can't always make it to the gym...however, I teach highschool and they have a weightroom. It is all free weights. So I need a replacement for seated row. Any suggestions? Today I did a slightly tilted row. (I'd say bent over, but I was at a 45 degree angle.) I…

Compare NROLFW with 5x5?
Ok, I am finished with stage 1 of NROLFW, and my time has become severely limited. I am debating changing programs. Can anyone give me a comparison between these two programs:NROL and 5x5? I need to be able to finish a workout in 30-45 minutes. I work fast, and I'm willing to sacrifice rest time between reps (which ups…

So Frustrated!!
I recently went back to work (I'm a teacher), and my workout time has gone from 1 to 2 hours a day to 30 minutes. I have not been into the gym since August 26. On that workout I did my last workout A for stage one. I have one more Workout B before I rest and move on. Well, I've rested here for a while. I'm not sure if I…

grip strength??
So I am finding with my lunges and step-ups that my wrist and forearms can not handle the weight that my lower body can handle during three sets. By the third set I have to use a lighter weight because my grip gives out. So for step-ups today, I used the 40 pound dumbbells for the first two sets and then had to drop to the…

Squats...
Hi ladies. I am curious about how you would describe "parallel" when you squat. Do you squat below parallel or at parallel? Anyone with arthritic knees squatting below? I have arthritis in both knees and tendonitis in my right ankle, and am trying to squat parallel. Meaning I squat so that if my butt is any further pushed…

vanity sizing...
After reading through the success stories today, I am wondering if all companies are vanity sizing. I have a 33 inch waist (give or take an inch). I can fit into a 12. One person posted that they had a 34 inch waist and wore a 10, and another posted that she wore a size 8 or 10 with a 32.5 inch waist. No way I could fit my…

Weight gain and weightlifting...
I started lifting heavier on Monday the 9th. I have completed 5 lifting sessions. I give myself one or two days recover and walk or do intervals on my off day. My diet hasn't changed with the exception of adding a protein shake on my lifting days (130 calories). I have gained 4 pounds...I upped my water intake thinking I…

Weight lifting and endurance exercise...
I completed my first half marathon this past May, and have already signed on for another one, plus some shorter runs. I am running one longer run per week and circuit training or interval training the other days. I would like to put on more muscle (that whole idea that more muscle helps to increase metabolism), but I also…

NSV jogging...
Jogging and running have always been excruciating exercise for me. I do it ONLY if I have to, not ever because I want to run. About a month ago, I decided to start what I call fire hydrant runs. Run from one hydrant to the next, and then walk to the next continuing to alternate until I could run two fire hydrants, and then…

5x5
Which lifts are standard for 5x5 lifting? Thinking about giving it a try...want to build as much muscle mass and bone density as possible before my estrogen runs out.

NSV for me!
Looks like there were half marathons all over the country this weekend! I completed my first today as well...felt confident and strong, and also didn't get picked up by the "gimp truck!" :drinker: With parking being a premium, I managed to walk an extra 3 or 4 miles as well...

First half-marathon in two weeks...
I have been preparing to complete my first half marathon, and I am wondering what is allowed or not allowed during the actual race. Generally, can you wear earbuds and listen to music? Does anyone wear a backpack for layers as they come off or go on? I live in Cleveland, and on a long walk today, it rained, was sunny and…

Restrooms for marathons...
So I may as well the question all first time marathoners wonder about but don't ask...what options are there if you have to use the bathroom when you are in the middle of the race? I saw someone said they take an immodium in the AM before the race.... seriously, I seem to have to pee at about 9 miles, and what happens if…

Met my body where it was at...and moved on
Before I had chidren, I was pretty strong. I assistant coached my school's power lifting team and worked out with the kids regularly (I'm a "can do coach"-- don't ask the kids to do it if you won't). At 170 pounds (size 10 at 5'7"), I could do 4 or 5 pullups and 2 or 3 sets of 20 push-ups on my toes. Then I had kids...fast…

Anonymity of the web...
Anyone share things on the internet that they normally wouldn't in real life? As if the anonymity of the web gives you the freedom to do so? I am amazed by the number of women who have posted their bra sizes...what else would you be willing to share that you wouldn't say to a stranger on the street?
