If you are presently a personal trainer, which program did you choose, and why? Was it a class or online? If you are thinking about becoming a trainer, which course are you leaning towards? Why?

    Anybody? Anybody? Buehler? Buehler?

Come on people; you'd comment if I had an emotional issue or posted about boobies!

I'm currently enrolled with the NASM and I'll test in about 2 months. I chose them after doing some reading and some discussing with other personal trainers.

I wouldn't go outside the big 3 - NASM, NSCA, and ACSM.

But honestly, they all suck in my opinion. But these are the most respected.

Also, one that's rarely mentioned and they're not well known is the RTS (resistance training specialist) cert. I've heard great things and from what I've read it seems very legit.

My trainer has suggested that should get certified as a trainer. He went through NASM and suggested either them or ACE.

The cPT from NASM actually compliments the CSCS from NSCA quite well. I have both of those. I also have the cPT from NSCA, which is meh. I also have the PES from NASM, which is actually decent but it's a home based exam which really discredits it as far as I'm concerned. At least it used to be when I took it.

    I'll say this.

Since none of these certs mean much as far as I'm concerned, I'd figure out where you are going to start working. Then ask them what certs they like to see in their hirees.

Don't quote me but I think the big 3 in Canada are CanFitPro, CPTN, and CSEP.

So NASM sounds like the big winner so far...tell me what you all are specializing in. I would like to concentrate on heavy lifting for women and overweight teens. Am also planning to get a MT license with an endorsement in Thai massage. Not quite sure where I'm going to sell myself at this point...

As I am trying to get a business plan together I thought I'd see what others are doing.

I'm certified through NASM. Seemed like the best one so that's what I went for.
