average is around 120/80 (on medication), some days it gets as low as 109/68. I log my mp twice a day, when i wake up and when i get off of work. Since I started the DASH diet in March (hate that they call it a diet)... I have gained better control of my bp and even reduced my meds.

I also get white coat syndrome... I have had high bp since about 1998. I log the bp readings I take at home and show them to my doctor. I woiuld tell the doctor the meds are effecting your quality of life and you would appreciate if if he would consider either changing the meds or lower them. Remember, he works for you,…

Leading by example is the best option. explain about healthy eating, dangers of processed foods, and even have everyone in your family take part in helping you log food so they have a better understanind (don't force them to help you, ask them). That way your son will know what to do when and IF he ever needs to lose…

agree with this 100% Losing weight is basically eat less calories than you burn.... but for consistent and healthy weight loss you have to look at the quality of the foods you eat. When i first started I tried to eat the same fast food I had become used too... but found that preparing my meals myself was best. and you'll…

Most mornings (nude)... not because I'm obsessing, I just find the fluctuations fascinating.

I'm 46 and joined this site in March... it is awesome to see other people in the same age group... was starting to think this site was only for people in the 20's :) I could definitely use some MFP friends in the their 40's....

sounds about right.... MFP guidelines have me at 1500 sodium and 3500 potassium. The days when my my sodium intake skyrockets.... I notice those foods usually don't have much potassium. When I stay dedicated and keep my sodium under 1500, my potassium is usually over and my calories are under goal.

I have lived in Central Texas most of my life.... I grew up eating TexMex and Texas style BBQ (slow smoked brisket, sausage, chicken). Awhile back, I was relocated to North Carina, for 2 years, and was dying for those foods... hadn't realized how much I loved them. I probably gained 10lbs after moving back home :)

think I read somewhere that Merle Dixon ( the crazy, racist biker in season 1) will be back this next season. That should be real interesting... I wonder if his brother still has his hand :)

I am following a "low sodium" diet plan and the sodium content in diet soda is not so bad.... a 20oz bottle of coke zero has 70mg sodium. I drink 2 a day and can keep my sodium under 1500mg. When I do go over my sodium goal... it's NOT because of a diet soda :)

subway's "heart healthy" menu....

m&m's or skittles... usually i dump them out on a napkin at my desk and sort them by color, then I eat them by color, starting with the color that has the fewest, then moving up. But, sometimes I save the green ones till the end (only with m&m's)

I'm near sighted, and wore contacts for several years. I agree that when allergies kick in or when I didn't take my contacts out for a week I had to wear glasses. Now though, as I've gotten older, I find I'm having trouble reading (maybe its working at a computer all day) ... If i'm wearing my glasses and need to read…

I have high blood pressure... so i (try too) follow the "dash diet" (low salt high potassium). They really shouldn't call it a diet, it's more of a lifestyle. Anyways, for myself, I found that if I keep my salt in line then the calories won't be high. all processed foods are loaded with salt. just look at the sodium level…

@krythie : I looked up the ingredients at - http://nutritiondata.self.com and it looks to me like vegetables and legumes have very little to no fat content. I have never tracked fat on my diary, so i wasn't sure. From the "potassium bomb" recipe above the only ingredients that had any fat were; jalapenos with1 gram each…

I had my appointment today, I took along my spreadsheet with my daily bp readings (when I remember to actually write them down). I took my bp right before leaving the house, it was 105/65 at the office it was 124/74 (I get white coat syndrome plus they used a small cuff and my personal one is a large cuff). The doctor was…

i love this thread!!! :D

I love seeing everyone's positive stories... My bp has dropped drastically since joining back in march (when i started following DASH), but then again I had just started my latest/newest regiment of pills. Previously it had jumped up to the 200+/120+ range during one ER trip (and I was on 2 pills at the time).. Right now…

I agree, talk to your Dr... I have also had my medication changed because of this, there is no reason to suffer adverse side effects. There are a lot of drugs out there that can help you and won't have these symptoms.

If your counting sodium (like me) your not eating this.... unless you have cheat days (and I do). Think I'll try this with either Texas Pete's or Sirachi. Maybe you could use half a bottle instead of a full bottle. If your worried about losing heat toss in a Scotch Bonnet (or be really brave and use a Ghost Pepper).

bumping to save this thread :)

what's wrong with the sugars.... as long as you maintain your calories? I thought it was calories that make you fat.
-
I have those days as well, but I do the best I can to find the foods on MFP and enter them anyways. Everything gets entered everyday. I might put a note on the posting that "Today was a free day"... or cheat day... or whatever you want to call it.

21 like it... just a little undercooked (adds texture). I add cinnamon, splenda and blueberries to mine.
