  • Not sure how every dietitian is concerning bariatric surgery, but mine did a series of six classes and gave handouts with each class. It's important to learn as much as you can about what to expect before and after surgery and know what you will be eating at each stage and how the actual surgery works, etc. Make sure your…
  • If your surgery was mid July, you should be able to eat most solid foods by now. Hope you are enjoying a good variety of lean proteins and non starchy vegetables. Getting in a little fruit is great too. I was told to always eat my protein first, then my veggies and if there was still room, a bite or two of my starchy food.…
  • I have gotten nowhere during the last 2 challenges. My goal has been set for 135 for both of them and during the last several months I have been bouncing between 138.4 to 140 pounds. I am maintaining at about 1000 to 1200 calories a day, which is what my dietitian suggests. So, I have recently upped the exercise even more…
  • At 3 months out I was eating a regular low calorie low fat diet. Lean meats, vegetables, fruits, keeping it clean and real. Every doctor is different. I was on weekly intervals and progressed well. After 4 weeks of clear, then full liquids, then pureed, then soft, I went to real foods. Your pouch is healed by this time and…
  • I have more problems with the malitol (sugar alcohol) that is found in the sugar free cakes than the actual sugar. Be careful of those. They aren't lower in calories and often cause more issues than sugar itself. The cheesecake idea is good, but cheesecake still has sugar and is very rich. Me, I'd do a sliver of cake and…
  • I am a year and a couple weeks post gastric bypass. I lost 100% of my excess weight in an 8 month time frame--meaning I hit normal BMI. I am working on MY goal now. I still eat about 1000-1200 calories a day, no matter how much or how little exercise I get. I do get in fruits and veggies. All of my dinners have lots of…
  • I started at a tight size 24 and am now a size 6/8. 246 lbs. to 138 in about a year's time.
  • How awesome! You've done so well! Congrats on being so successful. Can't wait to hear where you are in 3 months!
  • The last time I went to our local fair I was too big for the rides, not to mention the fact that I couldn't walk around the fair grounds. I also couldn't step up into the rides, or step down. Two weeks ago, we went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. I have lost 109 pounds since my last fair experience. I walked…
  • I have never had a true dumping experience, but the quest bars cause my heart to race and make me sweaty. It's the sugar alcohols in them that do it to me. Sugar free candies with them do it too. I can usually eat regular sugar w/o much problem, unless you consider the high blood sugars because I am a type I diabetic.
  • Sorry. I say feed your kids healthy at home and leave McDonald's as a treat. I do not "slam" McDonald's. I find that many of their menu choices are far healthier than finer dining restaurants. Chicken nuggets aren't so bad. McDonald's lists calories on the menu and offers nutrition information readily. For fast food, it's…
  • Forgot how to do pics on the forums, but here is the recipe: Low Fat Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas Filling: 3 cups diced chicken breasts 1 can chopped green chiles 1/2 pkg fat free cream cheese 1/4 cup chopped onions, sauteed 1/4 cup chopped celery, sauteed 1/2 can fat free cream of chicken soup chopped peppers (jalapeno,…
  • Diabetic Tussin from Walgreens has NO sugar alcohols or sugar in it. It tastes AWFUL, but it works well. Other than that, a prescription from a doctor would be my only guess. My problem with cold meds isn't dumping, but the way they affect the blood sugar since I'm a type I diabetic. You can google it--it has no sodium, no…
  • I am not obsessed with exercise. There are days that I do a lot more than others and I don't sweat it. (Pun intended!) I also have days where I am hungrier and eat more than others and I don't let this bother me either. I spent a lot of years obsessing about my weight and food. Part of my new life is just choosing to be…
  • The wait is well worth it. It took almost a year and a half before my surgery was approved. It was a wild roller coaster ride getting there with all the denials. I had my gallbladder removed 3 years prior to surgery. I have been told that, often, people wind up having gall bladder issues after the surgery, so the removal…
  • Tomorrow will be my one year "surgiversary." I was 246 pounds at 5'5" and a type I diabetic with sleep apnea, asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and serious digestive problems. I also had very low functioning kidneys. I had had several abdominal surgeries prior to this: 3 c sections, a hysterectomy, and a gall…
  • Checking in--scale is currently @ 138.4. Finally started moving after a couple of spike days. Seems to be some science to that. Have been VERY hungry lately. Am 4 days away from my one year surgiversary and had hoped to reach the 135 before then. Still working on the same things, some days I push harder than others.
  • Having perch tonight, will have to do the enchiladas tomorrow night. My sons will love me. It's probably their favorite. Unless you count chicken stuffed portabellas or chicken stuffed poblano peppers. :)
  • Looks good! I will try to remember to take a pic of dinner tonight. I will also take a pic when I make my low fat chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. Probably make them in a day or two. I'll also share the recipe. After my surgery, I could only eat about a half of one and about an eighth of a cup of my Spanish rice,…
  • Best of luck to each of you with your up coming surgeries! My surgery was 9/27/12, so it has been almost a year now. Some days I can't remember what I was like before, but I sometimes look at the "old" pictures and see that "me" and think how sad I was. Having the surgery was the best thing I ever did, besides having my…
  • Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, seafood, eggs, cheese, eggplant, spinach, tofu......
  • I know that I already saw an endocrinologist for my type I diabetes, and had already seen a pulmonologist because of my cpap machine. I had to see a cardiologist for clearance, see a psychologist, and my dietitian and weight loss surgeon prior to approval. My cardiologist gave me the run around and made me do extensive…
  • ^^^This^^^ I don't think I could have said it any better. Big hugs to you!
  • I'm almost a year out and have been working closely with my surgeon, dietitian, and endocrinologist also. Prior to surgery, we did a diet study because I had been seeing a gastroenterologist because I had problems eating--couldn't eat more than one meal a day, and it was quite small. They measured my caloric intake at…
  • W.O.W. What an amazing an inspiring life story! What diligence, persistence, and dedication you have shown! I applaud you for how hard you have worked and the amazing accomplishment that you have achieved. So very inspirational. I have a 21 year old son who is 307 lbs, he was 401 a year ago. He still has a ways to go, but…
  • I'm surprised that you are able to eat so many calories so soon after vsg. Normally, you would go through a clear liquid stage, a full stage, a pureed stage, a soft food stage, and then move to solid foods after that. I would certainly be working with your dietitian or your nutritionist and consulting your surgeon. That…
  • Alright. I'm game. Scale's gotta move sometime! Didn't come close to meeting my last goal, so we are going for it again. Currently 140.2 and going to shoot for that 135 final goal again! Will work harder to get that cardio in with hopes of seeing some progress. Halloween here we come!
  • Well, here it is. Labor Day 2013. The end of this challenge (and my youngest son's 21st birthday!) I did not reach the goal I set to reach 135 pounds. Still stuck between 139 and 140. A little discouraged that the weight loss is nearly stalled, but I am confident that somewhere down the road I will reach that goal. I am…
  • First of all, regular cake mixes contain sugar, so adding Diet soda would only decrease the calories a small amount and you lose the protein from the eggs--I can see using it if you have an egg allergy. However, aspartame (NutraSweet) turns bitter when baked because the chemical composition breaks down. If you find a diet…
  • I am a type I diabetic on an insulin pump as well. I have been able to decrease my insulin from 155+ units per day to less than 25 since losing weight. I was diagnosed when I was 15 and was put on a pump when I was 30. Nice to meet other type I's!
