Oh where to start! I have 3 shih tzus who are 12, 12, and 11 years old. They are lazy. They think they are furniture ornaments and when they go outside , they just lay there. My male, BeauBeau barks like mad and scratches at the door until you let him in. As soon as they come in, once your head is turned, they pee on the…

You have done an amazing job! Thank you for sharing so that you can be an inspiration to others out there!

As an ex cosmetologist, I don't think dying your hair will be a problem--if anything it may condition your hair and leave it in better shape than it is now. The reason for this is that hair dye and permanent chemicals infuse into the actual hair shaft and if you use a good color, it already has special conditioners in it.…

For my shakes, I have a shaker cup made by Bariatric Advantage and use their meal replacement protein powder shakes. They shake up well and aren't gritty. I do have a processor, but honestly did not use it pre surgery or post surgery. The first week after surgery I got my protein and liquids (I was on clear liquid that…

Honestly, the abdominal area isn't that noticeable to anyone but myself. It tucks well into the jeans, etc. And I don't think there is an over abundance of loose skin. As time progresses, I can see the wrinkly areas that are loose skin as opposed to the spots that are still fat. And you're right, some people never lose…

In my experience, carbohydrates don't fill me up. I focus on protein and healthy fats to feel satiated. Never thought to count what I eat or drink every hour, just made sure I got my full 64 ounces of water or liquids in each day and that I worked up to at least 60 grams of protein. There are times now that I feel like a…

When we go out to eat, I usually order something small--if they don't have something that I can accommodate, I eat what I want and either share with my sons (they are 20,22, and 23) or get a to go box and take it home. I go ahead and order water, though it goes untouched unless my sons drink some. I'm not embarrassed. I do…

Yep. Think that's it--the idea of raw fish. Not a BIG fan of baked or fried fish either, so I guess raw fish wouldn't appeal to me. But I still think that we should not have to forgo our favorite things just because we had weight loss surgery. I bet before long you'll be enjoying sushi again--one way or another. Me, it's…

Never had sushi, not sure if I ever will. The thought of raw fish and/or seaweed doesn't thrill me. Don't know if I will ever get brave enough to try it. As for rice, however, doesn't bother my pouch at all--but very few things do. Maybe you could blindfold me and tell me I'm eating a Kit Kat bar and I might try the sushi.…

Hi! Congrats on your surgery date! Which procedure are you having? Glad the pre-op diet is going well. I only had to do one week of Bariatric Advantage meal replacement shakes and a dinner of lean meat and vegetables. I was lucky that way. I had gastric bypass on 9/27/12, so I'm coming close to my one year anniversary. I…

Have to do the one nighter. Long as you don't cook my shih tzus. LOL

My 23 year old son is type 2 and I am type I and the sugar that you are consuming is not bad for you. I believe that MFP sets an unrealistic goal for sugar. Basically, as a type 2, my son focuses most on keeping the carbs lower--by that I mean limiting rice and white potatoes and things with a high glycemic index, as these…

I started off with Bariatric Advantage and after a couple of months just couldn't afford them. I did find Bariatric Fusion and they are considerably cheaper. But....I began using VitaFusion gummy multi Women's complete formula and they are found at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, etc. Very, very cheap. I am now using the Citracal…

Good luck to everyone!!!

I was told that there is a difference between protein powders and meal replacements. Also that I needed to use ones that are meant for weight loss surgery patients. Now I don't know if this pertains to those who have had or are having lapband or the sleeve--I had RNY. I know that Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate, and…

I seldom do protein shakes--I honestly haven't done many since maybe the 3rd week after surgery. I always focus on my lean meats and eat them first--cut into dime size bites usually. (I can handle more now, but chew them well.) I eat my veggies next, and don't do my starches until after that, if I still have room. I don't…

I joined that group for about 5 minutes--I thought it was for recipes. Saw all the ads for Skinny Fiber and left that group asap. Plus the moderator had to approve every post and I was told it could days for them to show up. No thank you. I'll stay full with my lean protein and healthy fats, and get my fiber naturally.

Looks like you've done your homework on the procedures!!! For the record, at almost a year out, 1/2 cup of food is good and filling and there are times I can eat more. Never once did I feel weak or bad from the small amount of food. You're right, though that it is NOT the easy way. The easy way would be not having to…

Good luck, congratulations, and hope all goes well for you!!! Will be waiting to hear how it all went and how you do as time progresses!!

Welcome to all! I had gastric bypass on 9/27/12, so I'm still a newbie of sorts. My top weight was 246, but I am a type I diabetic on an insulin pump and the weight kept me from being able to move and take care of myself. My kidney function was down, blood pressure up, cholesterol up, breathing was difficult, had sleep…

Thanks! I'll see if my surgeon can get me info on that. If not, I'll check into it myself. I was told that Galveston burn unit does skin removal at very small cost if you want to donate it to the burn unit there. Donating the skin would be a great idea.

Oh, Lord, I am going to have to look for the Syntrax Matrix mint cookie shakes, simply because I have a complete weakness for thin mint cookies! Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks! I appreciate the input!

I was on clear broth, diluted juice and Isopure clear the first week and probably only got about 30 grams of protein in if I was lucky. My guidelines for 60+ grams a day didn't start until the 4th week when I got into the "regular" diet. I know each doctor is different, but I don't see any way anyone can get in that high…

Major OUCH on those prices! I still can't tell what is skin and what is fat in the arm and abdominal region. I can tell what is loose skin on the thigh area, though. I have some wrinkly skin above the waistline, but I think most of the abdominal area is still fat. My arms are shaping up some through strength training and…

I am so very fortunate that I did not have to deal with much hair loss--maybe a strand or two extra when I dried or brushed my hair, but nothing to complain about. The texture was a lot drier than normal, but I am prone to dry hair anyway. I have the opposite problem. Lots and lots of hair on my head--I'd like to give some…

I am 10 months post op rny and was able to lose all of my excess weight by 8 months out. However, I only had 100 lbs to lose to reach normal BMI. My goal is a bit further than that, as a type I diabetic on an insulin pump, I prefer being on the lower end of normal. I started working to change my lifestyle and eating habits…

My sons are 20, 22, and 23 and knew that they would be taking care of things at home for a while. They are not strangers to this because I have had surgery before and they had to fend for themselves. First time, they were left home alone for 5 days they were 13, 15, and 16 and they did just fine. They learned to cook early…
