  • Were you ever able to learn about THM? Wonderful recipes and very solid research, with success for at least most (I have only halfway followed it, but that has been pure laziness and a ton of stress eating at work).
  • Agreed. I was just looking into getting a Jawbone UP3 to replace my Bodymedia Fit now that I am settling back down to focus on my fitness again. Now I don't know what to get. I loved my Bodymedia Fit; what is out there with the same amount of accuracy (relative, I know) and different sensors?
  • True. I think we have a tendency to be of an "all or nothing " mentality, especially when we decide to make changes for the purposes of weight loss. I think that's part of the ME concept: all the body to heal and have the least stress possible to allow the body to lose weight by leveling out the hormones. Either stress…
  • Let me know if you end up trying the ME program, per se. I'm curious as to your results.
  • Thanks. That's part of what I am hoping to learn from others - what reactions they are experiencing as they narrow down food choices. It helps to learn others' experiences.
  • Thanks, beastmode_kitty; I was hoping someone had followed this program who could report on their results, perhaps give some pointers on what changes they found that 'tipped the scales' in the right direction, so to speak. I am following more of the Eat Less Move Less at the moment to give my body a rest from excessive…
  • Thanks, Heybales. Please do let me know what you think when you read up on it all. So much of the concept is like EM2WL, only more structure at the beginning on macros to figure out your individual sensitivity to fats, sugars, and starches, and less on an exact calorie goal - instead, listen to your body and what it needs.
  • Ha ha - yes, I am starting to think Jade and his brother Keoni are the only published physicians who are touting the importance of easing off the craziness. I haven't read their first book "the Metabolic Effect Diet" yet, but "Lose Weight Here" just came out this year and they talk about new realizations on the importance…
  • He does state calories are still important, just to not focus on them. Ultimately he is trying to get each person to the point they are listening to their body - keeping their "HEC (Hunger, Energy, Cravings) in check," and still seeing fat (not weight) loss. Heybales, I think the research behind it may interest you, if you…
  • Thanks. Yes, it sort of is cycling (2 weeks low, 2 weeks high), but he goes into guidelines on the diet for each to start out with so you can be a detective rather than a dieter. It's about how your particular body/metabolism reacts to starches, fat, and the combination thereof. He tries to help you first get the hormones…
  • I'm currently reading "Lose Weight Here" (haven't read "Metabolic Effect Diet" yet). I'm only starting week two of ELEL with the basic twice a week strength training and loads of walking. This is a huge change from the cardio and heavy weights I was doing 9 months ago before a ton of life changes and sudden 10-15 lb gain.…
  • I'm also 5'1, and once I truly understood how this works, I applied it and it was working. Everything got sidetracked for about 4 months due to a significant job change and out of town training, so I ended up doing an unintentional reset, as I had no time for sleep, exercise, could not accurately track my calories and was…
  • Yes, but thankfully I'll be back on track workout-wise next week. It wasn't difficult to eat less yesterday - I think I still had 150 left and that was after trying to play catch-up on calories at the end of the day. But I'll get a weight training session in today, so it should all be good.
  • Update: I find it fascinating that on Monday I started the new weight program and upped my calories to the alleged maintenance target of 2200 at a starting weight of 160.0 (my weight has been hovering, bouncing between 160.0 and 159.2 at the lowest in a year). Tuesday was 160.0, and I had to eat a fair bit at the end of…
  • Thanks, Heybales! I'll update this as I see either results or - as importantly - lack thereof.
  • When my weight shot back up several pounds toward the end of the diet break, yes, the pants at least got tight in the belly, and honestly I felt a bit bloated all over (could have been psychological). It just took a few weeks at cut to get back down to the lowest I'd gotten after raising my calories from the net ~1200.…
  • Heybales - making sure I have your suggestion straight: Once I start back to weights next week (and a fairly normal schedule), raise my calories back up to the 2200-2300 calculated maintenance for two weeks, then raise it again by another 250 for two more weeks to see if I gain "only" a pound, correct? Then drop back down…
  • Thank you, sir! Right now I'm doing -15% (working my way up), but I keep adding calories as I watch my BMF showing higher daily burns. When I get close to my estimated TDEE, I'll do that with the 250. I'll start logging my weights as well. Thanks, again. :)
  • @heybales - First, thank you for hitting on points that are often confusing with regard to the activity trackers and working them into the EM2WL program. I've been meaning to ask you about the variation / correction of weight training workouts in relation to my activity tracker (you often say the calories are…
  • Thanks, heybales and mymodernbabylon. Your help is much appreciated. I'm nearly 43, so I hear you on the age thing. About two years ago I had actually started C25K then did my own thing and was up to a good, slow 3.25 mile jog. I was also trying to do the New Rules for Women. Repeated injuries to my hamstring left me…
  • What if you wanted to drop considerably more weight (fat) than the OP, but would like to incorporate at least one 45-55 minute slow/moderate jog in each week with three days of heavy lifting? I'm just now getting back to heavy lifting after about two years away (after an injury), but would like to get the cardiovascular…
  • I'm sorry to hear about your husband; I wish good health to him. You may want to check into a supplement precisely for chronically excessive cortisol - Cortisol Manager. My former doctor (Integrative Medicine) suggested it to me and it does seem to help. Some take it as a sleep aid, though that is more of a side effect of…

  • Personally, I couldn't give up receiving free chocolate :) Especially dark chocolate. Like others have said, switching to dark chocolate may be more fulfilling for your cravings. It has a much stronger flavor, and as such I've noticed I don't mindlessly eat as much because it is more rewarding to me. But to help counter…
  • I'm a 5'1 female, also, and have done the EM2WL (am a member of that group, as well). After getting a great kick-start to my weight loss and fitness improvement through Insanity after years of working out and watching calories, I have revamped my weight loss regimen and believe I finally understand MFP much better now. I…
  • Wonderful progress - you deserve to be proud! :smokin: *applauds* Well done, and your self confidence to post pics is awesome
  • Abbie_T and tmcoyle - thank you! I do try to watch my nutrition overall, and try to avoid a lot of processing. Where I fail in that is: 1.) dark chocolate (manna for me), and my meat is typically precooked in the store. I prefer a lot of protein; I feel better with it. I eat almost no grains (high bran cereal with almond…
  • Good points, terihick! I do take a multivitamin along with several other vitamin supplements, but I had not thought of taking in added electrolytes. I know you can get them in sports drinks, but how do you find a sugar-free supplement? When did you start to see a change? I do try to get a significant amount of water intake…
  • Really? I wonder why start from the beginning if you have *just* completed it. I can understand if it has been a while; it gives your body a chance to build back up, but if you just finished it, unless it is for a break for the body... I just don't want to lose the momentum. I have limited time to get in the best shape I…
  • Thank you! I feel a sense of completion, at least  I took measurements today (though I should wait another day to allow muscle soreness water retention to release), and I've lost at least 2.5 inches from my belly, 2 from my natural waist, nearly one from hips and some from various other areas, so it *has* worked! I…
  • I totally agree; there is no universal 'works for everyone.' I was just trying to find what was working for each person and perhaps find what I was missing before, try something different in an attempt to find that missing key/ingredient. I was looking for ideas. I did take measurements today and weighed in (though I…
