1) Can definitely see some more definition in my arms and legs! 2) Succesfully completed my first week of marathon training + CrossFit. I love both, and have done them independently. But this is my first try at doing 5 days a week of crossfit and a full marathon training schedule. I'm notoriously bad about skipping my…

This may sound harsh...but is it neccesarily wrong that obese people be charged more for health care? Just like alcoholism, smoking, drug abuse, most of the time obesity is the result of a choice to be excessive in eating and ignoring healthy habits. If you make the choice to eat too much, maybe its acceptable that you be…

@lilanddame sassy and fierce hair!

Hi Dorothy! My best advice is to just tough it out and get out there! Make sure you have plenty of layers on to keep you warm, and be careful with snow etc but running in the winter is honestly one of my favorite times to run! I now live in Florida, so don't get to run in snow and cold much anymore, but when I was in…

I finally love to run.. But there are definitely some hate-filled running days. Like this morning's sentiment was "I'm tired, I'm cold, its raining, I need to get to work, etc..." but for the majority its "i love being out here" Running definitely starts with hate. To combat that, I had to try EVERY stinking distraction in…

Thats fantastic! I didn't start really training or running consistently until I had actually signed up for my first race. Racing definitely keeps me motivated and working towards my next goal. Congrats to you and good luck on your race!

I am also signed up for the Disney Princess Half! Are you dressing up for it?!

Hi Everyone! I'm Michelle. I live in Chicago and am a newbie runner, having started running just to run in August/ September 2011. I'd run previously for Air Force and soccer, but just recently started racing. I've completed two 5k's, an 8k, and a 10k thus far. When I started in August I could huff and puff through ~5min…

Hi! Good luck on your race this weekend! I live in Chicago (read: tons of rain, snow, sleet, really any kind of precipitation...) I personally love running in the rain. 1) It makes me feel like a total badass and 2) It keeps me cool while running A couple things I've learned though: Run with an absorbent headband. The…

Get your thyroid checked. Thats a common symptom of hypothyroiditis.

Very true, and something I did not consider. Running outside can be harder, slower, and definitely tough on the joints. I like running outside because it forces my body to work naturally. I can't press a button to run faster or slower. My body needs to tell me to do that outside. But for people with knee, shin, foot issues…

A nice chest!?!? That sounds less like a compliment and more like sexual harassment to me. Am I missing something here?
-
You CAN do it. Really, truly you can. My suggestion: Don't do it on a treadmill! Because then you are likely bumping up your speed on the jogging parts to too high and that makes it unsustainable. Go outside, or do it on a track. That way your body will move naturally. And jogging is jogging! No matter what speed. So if…

Hey! This sounds right up my alley. I ran my first 5k on Sept 17, first 8k on Sep 25, and my first 10k yesterday! I have one more 5k coming up on Nov 5, am also running a 10k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, and have two half marathons in February. I am new to running and racing, but am definitly hooked!

Buy a heart rate monitor. Really its the only way to get an accurate read of your activity.

There FOR SURE is! So excited for you! And for your puppies who have such a hottie mom!

Ok, here we go. Took my PFA today actually, so I am definitely in "move your a**" mode. Weight: 160.4 (weighed today on MY scale. The detachment scale said 156, which was awesome! But I'll stick with mine..) Measurements: Waist: 31 in Chest: 34 in. Hips/Booty: 40in. Ready to kick my running up. Have a 10k on Oct 23, and…

Bump. My speed is pretty poor right now (11mm), but I am really enjoying challenging myself to run longer distances. I'm fortunate that my pace remains the same at 1 mile and at 5 miles, I don't really slow down. But I don't speed up either. I take an Air Force fitness test every 6 months that require me to run 1.5 miles…

Thanks for the great info! I have a question about gels/water on runs. I have run only one 5k and one 8k so far, but am aiming for a marathon in about a year. What is the race/training distance where I should start running with water or even gels to eat while running? I understand most races will include water and gatorade…

Because I'd rather run an extra mile than give up that regular Coca Cola...

Hey Scott! I'd love to join. I'm a 2nd Lt in the Air Force. I went to AFIT right away, which has not been pretty for my exercise routine or waistline. I focus on running a lot, because thats always the toughest part of the PFA for me. But I do need to work on calisthetics too! Hoping to run the Air Force half marathon in a…

I guess I should have said what I am going as... Sookie Stackhouse! I love TrueBlood, and any costume that I can look sexy in, yet still wear Soffe shorts and gym shoes, is an A+ halloween costume for me :)

Where do I get a gym like yours?! Wow, sounds awesome!

I love the END of a good run. haha!

Bump. I have an under armor winter shirt. Its a turtleneck long sleeve. And I love it. I wear it for all kinds of winter sports (skiing, ice skating, soccer (still winter in March here in Chicago!). Looking forward to replies too! Is it dangerous/unhealthy to run outside with the cold air? Bad for respiratory system/stuffy…

Bump! This is incredible. Whats so interesting to me is how different people look with the same height same weight. I think some people are just more "dense", muscular, or big boned. Just the differences you see between two women, both 5'3, and both about 160 pounds can look so different and be such different sizes with…
