If it says "cruelty free" it might still have been tested on animals. But if it says vegan, you're likely safe. Urban Decay has a line of vegan products, you can get them at department stores or a Sephora. I like to buy vegan products from non-vegan companies because it shows them that the market could support making more…

You need to tell people if you expect them to understand what you're doing and why. Most people will give you crap about it - for a little bit at least - but they'll eventually come around. And some folks will be more supportive than you can even imagine. My mother, for instance, asked me some questions and then became my…

I love Colleen Patrick-Goudreau - so "Vegan's Daily Companion" and the "30-day Vegan Challenge" are two of my favorite books. I also read "Vegan Freak" on a recommendation from someone here and really enjoyed it. I have read most of "The China Study" as well.

I steam it and then marinate it in Frank's wing sauce. Then pan fry it up with just a smidge of cooking spray - so it gets a little brown and crispy on the edges. Dunk in some vegan ranch! Delicious!

Here's the thing. You shouldn't look at is as forcing your kids to eat/not eat meat. But if YOU'RE the cook, you should be able to cook and eat what you want to eat. Just like my husband doesn't force me to cook him meat, I don't force him to eat vegan. But if he wants to eat what I'm eating, it will be vegan. Because the…

When my husband (then boyfriend) and I first moved in together I felt like I had to cook to separate meals all the time (he is an omni). After a while, he saw how much work I was putting in and told me not to worry about it, he could handle dinner on his own. Sometimes he will eat what I make (pasta, or burritos) but most…

I made these last night. They were really good! I added an extra bell pepper and knocked the rice from 4 cups to 2 cups. I still got 6 burittos out of it! http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2012/03/burritos-with-spanish-rice-and-black-beans.html

Save! Thanks, Matt!

I do this - in a way. I will make a pot of soup on Sunday and eat it for lunches every day for the rest of the week. But I do have my "go-to" foods. Fries and a boca chickn are the fastest dinner, so I fall back on that a lot. And there is a great Japanese place 5 minutes from my house so I was ordering from there 2 times…

Yes! I definitely think you can "retrain" yourself. For instance, I never really enjoyed beans growing up - but now I eat all types of beans at least once per day and I prefer them to many other things. I've also given up pop and find it to be un-enjoyable. That said, I've also read the book Eat to Live which *does* focus…

Save! I've not tried this one yet!

Here is a picture of what I have on my wrist. It means a lot of different things to me, but I love that it's a reminder that I can see every single day. If you want something that signifies strength then just look to your first post. You can do something that signifies your dreams or your goals. Or something that signifies…

If you go to the Groups tab and type in vegan we have a really great group "Team Vegan" that is supportive and fun. Join us!

Hmm... that is odd only because I feel that butter lettuce is easier on my stomach! Ah, diferent strokes for different folks I suppose. I think it is the tomatoes. Tomatoes are very acidic and I know a couple of people who choose not to eat them as they upset their stomach. Can you try your salads without them for a day or…

We're always happy to answer questions, but please do a little research. I like to recommend the "30-day Vegan Challenge" as it addresses all of your concerns (cheese, labels, etc). The author, Colleen Patrick-Godreau also has a podcast that talks about raising children vegan and it is very informative. It sounds to me…

I read the first two chapters of Vegan Freak last night and this is fab! I'm really enjoying it so far. I think it's a "must read" for all vegans and I love that it is sort of a jumping off point for more information about veganism.

Just downloaded it! Thanks for the recc!

How much are you eating? Does this happen when you have 5 cherry tomatoes? Or when you eat an entire beefsteak tomato? I'd think you just need to "ease into it" so to speak, but I'm not sure. Do you have IBS or anything like that? A trip to the doctor to rule things out might not be amiss.

The same thing that makes any food product vegan - a complete absence of all animal derived products. (No fish oil, no dairy products, etc..)

Just a heads up, if you're going to blend kale in a smoothie, make sure you have a pretty high-powered blender. Kale can be pretty tough and sometimes it doesn't get as blended as it should!

It turned out fab! Here it is: Flasback Mac & Cheese Ingredients: 1 pound macaroni 1 cup water 1 cup unsweetened nondairy milk 3 tablespoons mild-tasting oil (such as corn oil) 1/2 cup flour (I use all-purpose) 3/4 cup nutritional yeast 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder Directions: 1.…

I use Gummi King multi. They are for kids but they're fine for grown ups too.

Tonight is vegan mac & 'cheeze'. If it turns out I'll post the recipe.

I think they are SEXY! My hubby has killer legs and I've been trying for years to get him to wear one. One day. One day.

I prefer the taste and texture of soy but am drinking almond milk more since soy upsets my hubby's stomach. They are both delicious and work well in so many different recipes. Whichever you buy, look for a calcium fortified version of it for more nutrients!

I will fully agree with you that there can be some nutritional value from meat. However? Who is eating grass fed cows? Not the people who buy their meat at Walmart. Not the people who stop at the McDonald's drive thru. Maybe not even the people who *think* they are eating grass fed beef. Unfortunately, I'd say that the…
