I started at a 62" waist jean in 2010 at 490lbs. I'm currently at a 38" waist and 250lbs. and have been maintaining the loss for over 4.5 years now.

Awesome, great work.

Awesome work, way to go!

I was overweight all my life and and at an all time high of 490 lbs at 6'6" tall. I was 38 years old when I finally realized I need to make a change if I wanted to be around for my kids. A little over 2 years later, through a combination of diet and exercise, I had lost 260 lbs. Was it easy? No! Was it worth it? Hell Yes!…

I switched over to pulling sumo about a year or so ago. I feel like it targets my hamstrings and glutes more than a conventional stance. Also with as tall as I am, taking few inches off the vertical travel of the bar doesn't hurt :) When I first switched to them, I had to lower the weight, but I've now surpassed what I…

Hey Marvin, welcome to MFP! You can definitely do it. I started at 490lbs, and have been maintaining between 240 and 250 now for over 3 years after getting down to 230 at 6'6". The key is picking a realistic plan and sticking with it. You need to make changes and form new habits that you will be able to continue for the…

I started this at 38, and I'm in the best shape of my life at 43. Next year will be even better! For the first 2 years I was losing weight, and for the past 3 years I've been working on adding lean mass, and MFP has been a great tool for tracking calorie intake and making sure I hit my protein goals.

Nice work man, keep on trucking! Those big milestones are awesome to achieve!

If you want something you have never had, you must be willing to do something you have never done.

I lost 260lbs total without surgery or drugs. It took me about 2 years of eating less and moving more. I ate 3 meals a day, no snacking, and worked out at the gym 4-5 days a week. I have now maintained that loss for 3 years while working on adding lean muscle mass. I would start by tracking what you eat now, and then start…

I'm 6'6". Started out at 490lbs in 2010. Got down to 235lbs by May 2012. I finally figured out that I needed to be healthy for my family, and started eating less and working out. Since then I've been working on adding muscle mass. I lift 5 days a week, and run and bike as well. This is recent picture at 245:

I went my first 39 years without ever running a mile, and before losing the weight, never imagined I would. I was 490lbs at 6'6" when I started losing weight, and I ran my first mile when I was down to about 350lbs a year later. I have continued running and regularly do 15-20 miles a week. I even did a half marathon at the…

1) Yep, I do quite a bit of cardio along with strength training. 2.) See above  3.) I do cardio for the calorie burn, cardiovascular health and for building endurance. I have grown to like cardio, and now a enjoy a good run or bike ride. What's the point of being strong if you get winded walking up the stairs, or…

I've been maintaining my loss for almost 3 years now. Very little has changed from when I was losing weight, other than I eat more calories than I did then. I still track my calories, I still weigh myself on a regular basis, I still hit the gym 5 mornings a week, as well as some cardio during lunch at work. I try to keep…

Way to go man! Awesome work! Took me about about 2 years to lose 53% of my body weight, and that's where I hit my goal. I've been there for 2.5 years now.

This is mine, A little over 2 years and 250lbs difference.

I've got Shimano 105 pedals on my road bike, with shoes from Specialized with SPD-SL cleats. I started riding on a hybrid with just toe cages, and going to the road bike with cleats made a huge difference. I am able to keep a better cadence, and put out more power up the hills. I also feel more stable on the bike, and I am…

Amazing transformation! Great work!

I'm 6'6" and started at 490lbs. I got down to 230lbs, and I've added muscle since then, and I'm sitting at 242 as of this morning. It took my about 26 months to lose 260 lbs, and I've maintained for 2.5 years now. I lost the weight though calorie counting and exercise. No drugs, no surgery, and no crazy diets that forbid…

I am 42, 6'6". Highest adult weight: 490lbs, or at least that's heaviest I'd ever weighed myself at. I got pretty good at avoiding scales when I was that heavy. Lowest adult weight: 230lbs, that was back in May of 2012. I was pretty lean at this weight. Current weight: 248lbs. I've been working on putting on lean mass!

Thanks! No secret. I'm just doing the same things I did when I losing the weight, but with a higher calorie count. I still log most of my food, and I still workout very regularly, both weight lifting and cardio (running and biking). Doing both of these things is part of my life now. I've been logging meals for so long now,…

I haven't watched the show, but I did lose 260lbs over 2 years, and have maintained it for 2.5 years now. For me, it was a matter of finding lasting motivation to make a change. I my case it was my kids. I want to be there for them and set a good example for them. I want to see them graduate, have families, and be able to…

From 2010 - 2012 I lost 260lbs, getting down to a low weight of 230lbs. Since then I've been lifting weights and working on building muscle and I'm currently at 250lbs. It is very do-able, and it also possible to maintain the loss. I still track what I eat, I still lift weights at the gym, and I still run and bike. The…

Out of the 20-30 people that are at my gym every morning when I workout, only myself and 2 other people dead-lift on a regular basis. As others have said, I think a lot of people are afraid of them, because they don't know correct form for them and think they are going to hurt their lower back. I used to have back issues…

M/42/6'6" [ 490 > 230 - 260 ] ( 26 months) I lost the weight from Feb 2010 to April 2012. Since then I've been on small bulks and cuts to add muscle and lean out a little more. I weighed in at 245 this morning.

I usually give a head nod or small wave when I pass by another runner. Same with bikers when I'm out on my bike.

I ran my first mile non-stop when I was 350lbs, and I ran a half-marathon this past October at 245lbs. Like other people have said, start slow and listen to your body. I did many miles of just walking and then walk/run combo before being able run that first mile. It was a slow mile, but I still ran the whole way. Make sure…
