  • I have a Sharper Image scale that I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond. 29.99. I wanted one with a digital display. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/Sharper-Image-reg-Food-Scale/1017490583?categoryId=12105 It's been good so far, and actually weighing the amount of food you are eating is enlightening to say the…
  • I started lifting from day one of my weight loss, but I had experience in lifting from about 10 years before that. With all the information available online about what exercises exist, and proper form, and various lifting programs now, it should be fairly easy to start a strength training routine without injuring yourself.

  • I started out at 490lbs back in February of 2010. Through watching my calorie intake and working out, I got down to 235 by May of 2012. I have been maintaining and even putting on some muscle since. When I was at my heaviest, I just started in the morning before work. It hurt like hell, and I don't think I made it made it…
  • I've been maintaining for almost 2 years now. I still log most of my food, and I exercise more now than when I was losing the weight. To me, not being mindful of what I was eating and how much of it was what got me into trouble in the first place, so I am not going back there. Can some people get away with not tracking…
  • I started out at 490 and I exercised and watched what I ate the whole time I lost the weight. When I was that heavy, exercise consisted just of walking around my neighborhood for the first 5 months. Then my wife got me a gym membership and I have been going for over 3 years now. When I was losing my weight, I would do…
  • Awesome work, keep on rollin' !
  • I just say no. If the people you are with don't like, that is their issue and not yours. I find that by just quietly doing my thing, the people I hang out with have come to accept it, and several have even picked up some of my healthy eating habits and had success with it. They can eat whatever they want when we go out,…
  • Awesome work man! I've been maintaining my loss for almost 2 years and I agree it is a life changing event to lose that much weight. It opens your eyes to all the things you couldn't or didn't want see or do. I shocked now at how many things I avoiding doing because of my weight, and how much of life I was missing out on…
  • Congrats on the loss and maintenance! I've been maintaining for about 20 months now after a loss of 250lbs. I still hit the gym 5 days a week, and run and bike 4-5 times a week as well. I still log food most days and eat fairly clean. Feel free to add me.
  • Awesome work sir! Your philosophy on this sounds a lot like mine.
  • Optimal Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey. http://www.optimumnutrition.com/products/natural-100-whey-gold-standard-p-202.html I've been using it for over a year now, and have been very happy with it. You can find it online at bunch of places.
  • Awesome work man! It is amazing how many health problems go away when you lose the weight. Keep up the good work!
  • When I hit my goal, I raised my intake 200 a day for a week, then checked if I was still losing at the end of the week. If I was I raised my calories 200 a day again, and repeated the cycle. I found a good balance following this method without having a huge one day change in how much I was eating. That was over 18 months…
  • Maintenance for me, with my current workout schedule, averages about 3,800 calories a day. When I was losing my weight I was eating about 2,400. For stats, I'm 6'6" and around 245 lbs now.
  • One of the things that helps me is to find some people to run with. I find running with a buddy or two is very motivating, and helps keeps the pace of the whole group up. Music is a must as well.
  • 2 hrs 20 min in the gym this morning (10 min stretching, 35 min cardio, the rest lifting) 5.2 mile run during lunch. I think that's enough for today :)
  • My wife got some "Tide Plus Febreze Freshness Sport" and the stuff works great on workout clothes. They come out smelling much better. A good dryer sheet helps as well. Also, if you have a high efficiency washer, you may have some mold built up in the washer. If that is the case, you need to run a cleaning cycle with…
  • I bought myself the car I always wanted, but didn't fit in to until I lost the weight. 2013 Mustang GT with the 5.0L v8, 6-speed manual and track pack.
  • I started trying to run back in Jan/Feb 2011. Ran my first mile on 4/11/2011. That was the first mile I'd run non-stop in my entire life and I was almost 39 years old. I ran my first 5K in August 2011, time was in the 38 minute range. 7 months later I ran another 5K, but 11 minutes faster. Then in October 2012 I ran my 5K…
  • I started out at 490lbs, and did both the whole time I was losing weight. I spent about 50% of my gym time lifting and 50% doing cardio. The lifting will help you maintain your lean muscle mass while you are losing weight, and the cardio will help burn some extra calories and be good for your cardiovascular health. I still…
  • It is tough when you start out, but it is worth it to stick with it. I was 490lbs when I finally decided to do something about it. I started out just walking. That first day I went maybe a mile, and it hurt, I won't lie about that. But within 3 months I was walking 3+ miles at a time. At that point I joined a gym and…
  • Great work man, just stick to the program and you will get there! Our starting points are very similar. I started at 490lbs at 6'6" when I was 37. I've now been at 240 for about a year and half, and I'll turn 41 this month.
  • 31, which is how old I was when we had our first kid... hmmm.... could there be a link :)
  • I wear the Nike Dri-Fit socks for running and working out. They've been great and have held up well.
  • I lifted heavy while I lost my weight, and it does work. I did about 30 minutes of cardio, and 1.5hrs of lifting 5 days a week, and lost 260 in about 20 months, and have kept it off now for a year and a half. I agree with dibelcibo, don't be afraid of muscles. Unless you taking steroids or some other drug, you will never…
  • I lost 250lbs and while I was doing it, I was working out at the gym 2 to 2.5 hours for 5 days a week, and eating about 2,400 calories. Keep in mind I'm 6'6" and even at my goal weight I'm 240lbs. For the 16 month I've been maintaining, I still workout about 2 hours/5 days a week at the gym, plus I run or bike 3-4 times a…
  • Awesome job, keep up the great work!
  • Are U Aware? :) I lift 5 days a week. Coming up on 3 years of consistent lifting in June.
  • I'm 6'6" and a little over 3 years ago I was 490 lbs. I'm now 240, and have maintained that for 16 months now. It took me about 2 years to lose the weight by watching what I was eating and exercising. I cut back to 2,400 calories a day while I was losing the weight. Basically, I just ate 3 meals a day, each about 800…
