  • I stopped drinking sodas about 18 months ago, and I regularly give my body a break from coffee... the trick I find works is to substitute something else in. For the sodas, I substituted in soda water with a little Torani syrup in a fruit flavor. It was much easier to stop drinking the diet coke with the home made soda as a…
  • I had a friend who became very ill and it was traced to improperly stored mayo. I personally won't be taking any chances!
  • I have some Starkist lunch kits that contain tuna, a few crackers, a packet of low fat mayo and some pickle relish. If you can't find the mayo packets, maybe get the kit instead.
  • Mayo is the perfect breeding grounds for all kinds of bacteria. Always store it in the fridge unless you like having food poisoning.
  • Bump to watch when I'm out of cubicleland...
  • The oil helps transfer the heat to the whole kernel, instead of focusing it on the bottom of each kernel where it is in contact with the pot. It seems worth a try to use a heavy pan and shake the heck out of it while it is cooking without oil and see how it goes. You can get a workout at the same time. Since hot air…
  • One of the cheaper ways is to get a soda siphon and some flavored syrups (like Torani) and make your own. I did that for a while because it allowed me to adjust how strong the soda was, and gradually reduce the strength.
  • Newman's Own has high protein pretzels... I think 5 grams of protein per serving. They are pretty good!
  • You are not blowing things out of proportion, given your family history. Definitely see your doc. That said, how much protein do you get each day? If you aren't in the 80 grams per day range or above, that could cause hair loss.
  • I could have written that post after I graduated from college, and then again after I was laid off years later. I have screwed up upon occasion, but I have learned a ton and have made many contributions to the companies I worked for, and those contributions far outweighed my screw-ups. What you are feeling is normal. You…
  • Not meant as an attack on the OP... Thank you for sharing information that seems relevant to all of us. I'm not here to just maintain health, I'm working on improving it. My water helps me do that by keeping me hydrated, doesn't add a bunch of calories to my diet, and gives me the feeling of fullness/satisfaction. The…
  • What do you believe the benefit would be?
  • Probably measurements are quite different between Australia and US, here 3 teaspoons has always been equal to 1 tablespoon. ;-)
  • Sure, they wear gloves but watch them. You can see them playing with their hair, wiping/rubbing their noses, handling money, etc., then handling your food. I've asked for my money back and left the establishment a couple of times after witnessing this kind of stuff!
  • Look up exercises that improve your core strength.
  • Changing the days/length of exercise won't make a difference in your daily calories, your exercise calories are added in as you report them each day. If you are gaining weight eating back your exercise calories, then one of two things is most likely occurring. Either your exercise calories are being overestimated, or…
  • I have mine private because I am only accountable to myself. If I choose to eat something completely unhealthy, that is my choice and I live with the consequences. I know others like to learn from food diaries, and there are plenty of public ones out there for that. They don't need mine too. That said, my friends can see…
  • This one is simple. Get a hammer and some nails and nail that drawer shut. That makes it too much work for you to get to the candy, and easier to forget about it.
  • That was definitely the point the OP was making. Several people chimed in to state that logging cleaning was cheating yourself... I agree with the OP's point, overestimating exercise calories will wreak havoc on weight loss if you eat those calories back.
  • That sounds quite judgmental. I think it depends on how you have your activity level set to calculate your BMR. Mine is set to sedentary because I work at a computer all day and am, well, sedentary. When I clean, and my heart rate goes up, I do log it if it is more than 30 minutes. That said, I don't eat back my exercise…
  • As others have pointed out, lots of things are bad for us. Diet sodas/artificial sweeteners are in that category. On the other hand, being overweight is bad for us too. Each of us needs to ask ourselves "What would I be eating/drinking if I wasn't drinking this diet soda?" If the answer is a chocolate milk shake and french…
  • Your math is a little off. One liter is about 34 ounces, so two bottles of the OPs water is about a liter. She is consuming between 5 and 8 liters of water per day.
  • Please cite your source for this. There are lots of sources that claim otherwise, that normal, healthy adults won't see this unless they are working out to the extreme. For example: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/146397/water_intoxication_how_much_water_is.html This site claims "Healthy adult kidneys are capable…
  • I can relate. I started losing my weight after a neighbor poisoned my two dogs and they died. It was a dark period in my life. I made a conscious decision to continue the momentum. Now, about 18 months later, I'm much more able to deal with the comments when they occur (I've lost 90 pounds and still have about 40 to go).…
  • Boobee is correct. The problem is with forcing yourself to drink too much water in a very short period of time. If you are drinking throughout the day and pacing yourself, then water is the best thing for you to drink. If you want something a little different, you can always add a splash of something to your water. One of…
  • Yeah, I guess what I'm trying to say is "Definitely try it if you like yogurt, but don't buy a dozen containers like I did!"

  • Definitely an acquired taste! I tried it and couldn't get past it, though I do love Chobani Greek yogurt. I brought the extra Skeer to my WW group, and everybody who took a container home LOVED it and wanted to know where to purchase more... If you are a yogurt person, and a tart yogurt person at that, it is worth a try!

  • Whole Foods Market has some really delicious recipes on their website, all reasonably healthy with nutrition info per serving. My favorite part? They give an approximate weight for a serving, so you can dish out one serving from a recipe without dividing up the whole recipe into the right number of servings to determine…
