Wow! Amazing transformation! You look fabulous!! :)

Training for a HM in February as well (the Hypothermic Half in Victoria, BC). It'll be my 4th HM, but I haven't run one since last June. My longest run in this round of training was today at 13 km / 8.1 miles. Always love to have more running buddies :)

In 2014, I completed 2 half marathons, including a PR (1:56 this year, while my time from the same HM in 2013 was 2:12) :) My main goal for 2015 is to run consistently throughout the year, as this year I've struggled with balancing running with my school commitments. I'm hoping to complete 3 half marathons. I've got my…

Trying for 100 yet again!

Add in some healthier options that also have some calories to them. Examples: avocado, natural peanut or almond butter, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, nuts & seeds... Even if you're eating lots of vegetables, it shouldn't be difficult to come up with 1200 cals! Good luck!

Hey! I'm not sure if I lift as heavy as you do, but I do lift weights and run. My weekly schedule is about 25-30 miles per week of running and 2 days per week of lifting. I find that any more lifting than that interferes with my running - especially lunges, deadlifts and squats!! During my spring HM training, my week…

I like both, as others have mentioned. I like to do small local races for 5 and 10k, and the big races with the expo for half marathons. But that's mostly because 5 and 10k are my fun runs and hm is the distance I'm working on improving. after training for months towards a HM, i really enjoy the large crowd of other…

In short, no I don't find running "stalls my metabolism." I've lost about 30 pounds from running (combined with improving my diet). In response to the OP - I run about 25-30 miles per week and I'm currently working on slowly increasing that to a goal of about 40 mpw. I currently run 4-6 days per week (usually 5), plus 2…

In for 100 miles this month. I'd like to shoot for 120, but I didn't even make 100 in June so don't want to get too ambitious. Maybe 120 in August!

Definitely go see a doctor.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! These tips are so, so helpful and I really appreciate it :)

^^ This x 100000! I think it's really important to set realistic and achievable goals, that don't involve you getting injured. A half marathon in 1 year would still be a major accomplishment, and a much more doable one. Just my 2 cents. PS I am currently training for my 3rd half (have also done a few 5k and 10Ks) and I…

Also, I started with NROLW as well and its a great program if you are new to weight-lifting! Personally, I found the moves became increasing (and unnecessarily) complex in the later stages of the program. Also I found the plan a bit too difficult on my legs and it started to negatively impact my running. So I started…

I am training for my 3rd half. I run about 5 days per week and do strength training 2 days per week. My strength workout looks something like this Day 1 Squats with the squat-rack bar Lunges with a barbell Seated row machine Military overhead press Push-ups Abdominal stuff (planks, crunches, twists with the medicine ball)…

Med student here! Happy to have fellow student friends to rant with (and support haha). Good luck on the bar exam!

Thanks for posting this, OP! Some great tips in here

First one was in 2012 and I weighed about 140 lb. Finished in 2:12. Just completed my second one this month and finished in 1:56 and I now weigh about 125 lb. As others have said, fitness and training played a large part in improving my time, but i think the weight loss was important too. Good luck!!

I'm 5'4" and 124 lbs, and it takes me about 1 hour 45 minutes of running at 10min/mile pace (about 10-11 miles) to burn 1000 calories. So a typical Saturday long run. Most days its closer to 400 calories, as I'm normally running more like 40-45 minutes per day during the week.

Shooting for 100 miles again this month!

Sounds good - Peak Performance it is! Thanks for your responses!

Welcome and congrats on your progress so far!! That's very impressive. Feel free to add me - I love meeting fellow runners!

Wow, great story. Thanks for posting.

My husband and I used to go for runs together, but he was always much, much more in shape than me and he'd tease that I was slowing him down... Then I started running regularly and gained a lot of speed and endurance, thinking I would finally be able to keep up! But all of a sudden, he didn't want to run with me anymore.…

Congrats on reaching your running goal! Your first 5K is a big deal :-). I hope you're hooked!!!

I'm 5'4" and my GW is probably around 120. For me, it's more about achieving a physique that I run the best at than an exact number on the scale. My highest weight was 156. Current weight is 125.

Sounds great! Best of luck with your training!!! And I agree about adding one more day of running :)

In Grade 11, I was about 125, and was very active on the track, crosscountry running, dance and cheer teams. In Grade 12 , I injured my ankle (severed a ligament) and so quit all my sports but kept eating the same, and went up to 150. My highest ever was in college at 156. And now? 124.8 this morning!

Congratulations!
