I always make sure that my food log is up to date before I let myself give in to cravings like that. I also make certain to plan out a workout that will take care of that craving. When I decide that it is worth all of the extra effort I go ahead and enjoy that sweet treat.

Hi there! I am training for a 10k and I much prefer weight lifting as well. I play squash as a way of cross training or the rowing machine or run wind sprints. HIIT also helps build cardio. If your legs and lungs are strong you can make it through a 5k. Best of luck on your run!
