  • To see the biggest changes (besides diet - which is roughly 80% of the effort) I recommend the larger "compound" movements. Compound movements involve multiple muscles and joints in unison. Think: squats, deadlifts, rows, overhead presses, chest presses, pullups, dips, etc. To get more resistance from a relatively lighter…
  • So basically I'm just getting fat... Like I said - my weight is pretty constant but the love handles are returning... I guess I'm just turning to fat and all this heavy lifting is for nothing (although I'm showing slow strength gains)
  • That's great dude! We play beach here in Hawaii year round. Indoors - well let's just say I'm not the best passer on the team, but I pretty much play anywhere - I guess it just depends on the level of play. I can't hang in the middle unless we are playing B ball. :) I prefer to play right side. I've been working on getting…
  • My wife is 4'10". She started at 126lbs, and got down to 93lbs or something like that (she's very petite). She's trying to put some weight back on as muscle now - so she's eating a lot and lifting heavy.
  • I fluctuate 3-6lbs daily according to my scale. I weigh 180lbs or thereabouts
  • I wish I had my own weight cage in my house with an olympic bar, and those rubber weights and mats that let you drop your weights on the ground. Oh and a nice big area to do my weird plyo training sessions. Heck while I'm wishing, I want a whole volleyball court with a wood sport court, and a lap pool, ice pool, and hot…
  • Finally an answer that makes sense to me! Thanks! Oh well - my vball sessions often run 2 hours. 2-3 times a week. I'm guessing that's been keeping most of my muscle off of me.
  • I've done some lifting in the past, but they were always sports specific, and not specifically for body building. I'm not looking at becoming a beef cake or anything, I just want to build some strength again, and I'm starting to think I'm better off working in a few more strength training sessions. I'm currently at 179lbs,…
  • sport suds detergent works pretty well. You can also try mixing some baking soda and vinegar together, and washing your shoes with that. After it dries out, it takes away a lot of smells. Good luck.
  • Great post. I also agree with the guy above who stated that guys also have a hard time getting in the weight section where there a lot of muscly looking guys in there, and when I am, uhm, less muscly looking. I no longer care about that - I focus on my goals and why I'm there, and it gets easier. I suspect that it's the…
  • Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. If anything, eat a part of the larger calorie meal, and then eat the rest of it a little later (break it up into smaller meals). This should help keep your metabolism going, instead of making your body want to store fat by fasting and then eating one big meal.
  • ^^^ Not a good idea.
  • I have no problem living off of restaurant food and in a hotel - if you make healthy choices for food, and continue to work out. When my hotel has a gym, I use that. When it doesn't I bring a set of bands for resistance training. I bring my videos for core, and cardio work. Heck, when I'm traveling, a lot of times, I'm in…
  • Sounds like you just want to complain/vent about your fiance. Would you rather we all just nod our heads and agree with what you're saying?
  • This is too late - but perhaps for future reference: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/616855-wrapping-my-waist-in-cling-wrap-does-it-help
  • Harmless if diluted, and taken in small amounts btw. My wife tried to do a shot glass of apple cider vinegar the first time and it didn't go well. LOL I think even diluted it tastes nasty. Diluted, she like it though.
  • The water will help curb your appetite by itself. A lot of time people are really just thirsty/dehydrated, but they mistake it for being hungry. Vinegar will not by itself help you lose weight. There are no tricks besides just counting your calories and eating right. I'm told vinegar will help balance out the Ph balance in…
  • Remember to enter your figures, goals, and daily totals into MFP regularly and honestly and you can't go wrong. Good luck to you
  • Yes. Not to mention indoors I am in the middle. I usually jump every play defensively and offensively. I also play back row - so no real rest there. On the beach - well, you do everything and spring and jump a lot.
  • Where is "everywhere you go?" Plug in your numbers and goals in MFP. It's pretty good and accurate.
  • Maintenance is around 2400 calories. I've programmed in a 300 calorie excess. I'm rarely hitting it. Apparently one session of vball eats more than a 1000 calories.
  • Barring any serious problems found by a doctor, you may have some relief by not only strengthening your leg muscles and your core, but by foam rolling your leg muscles and tendons.
  • If you eat right and do insanity, there's no way you won't lose weight. If you didn't lose weight, you didn't eat right. I really think you already need to be in pretty good shape to do insanity properly and get the most out of it, but if you start slow and modify it'll work. Just be careful. The moves are strenuous and…
  • I am not a libero. :D
  • Good luck on your fitness journey!
  • Avoid salt too. Water retention will make you bloat.
  • I'm eating papaya, cottage cheese, and a PB & j toast right now...
  • The rolling is a great stretch! The cold can is great for reducing inflammation! Good suggestions!
  • I can't speak to the comfort eating and what not, but I have had plantar faciatis before in both feet. It hurts! Especially in the morning! I got mine from working out too much, believe it or not. However, it was caused by a lack of stretching and imbalance in the muscles. I never let that pain keep me from pushing through…
  • First to answer your 1st question: yes it is possible to do any exercise program without "bulking". That is dependent on your calorie intake. Those pictures are misleading because they are not the same person. You could have 20% body fat and still be really bulky if you've got lots of muscle underneath or you could be be…
