  • Thought I would update this post that I finished the half on Saturday in a time of 2:00:40! Last year was 2:03:19 so I am happy with the PR! :drinker: I will say that this year there were multiple people down on the course (ambulance tending to them, etc) starting around mile 11. Who knows how many behind me that I did not…
  • I am in Wisconsin and my usual runs are in the evening but really I go whenever hubby is available to watch the kids! Sunday had a high heat index of like 95 and I had to run around 2pm. Worst time of day! So yes it was very hot and after I thought more about it, I loaded up in Gatorade (and I keep some in my…
  • I ran my first half last August and plan to run the same race this year. No expert either! I actually felt great throughout even at the finish. I agree with what others have mentioned above. Being my first half, I was unsure where I would finish but I signed myself up several months prior as a 2:30 finish time. After I got…
  • What an AWESOME experience my first half marathon was!!! I will definitely be doing it again next year! I finished in 2:03:19 and my goal was 2:10 or better so yay! I was a bit bummed at the start because I registered back in February before I had done any races at all and guessed a finish time of 2:30+ so my corral was…
  • Especially those reminders to take it easy! Where I run it is very hilly so I am used to that, I think flatter surfaces tend to cause me to naturally go faster. I know that this course is no where near as hilly as where I run. Thanks again!
  • Thank you for all of the advice!
  • Good for you!!! I will run my first half in August! I reallllly hope it isn't sweltering hot! I am in Wisconsin so you never know! Could be 85 and humid at 7am race time!

  • Ok this just happened to me today (over a week early) and yes I have increased my workouts! However, I am on BCP (birth control pills) so that makes it seem odd to me that it would be out of wack when the pills keep it super regular every month. No way I am pg either.
  • I have flat feet and overpronate as well. I LOVE my Asics Gel 2160. They have the DuoMax. I would wear nothing else.
  • I am interested in this too so I want to catch the responses! I currently run at least 5x weekly (usually 4 miles with intervals). I also incorporated JM Ripped in 30 to get more strength, I add extra ab work and pushups to it. On days that I do the dvd, I may only run 2 miles or I notice I am pretty fatiqued while…
  • The consensus will probably be to get fitted properly. But I will tell you that I also have flatter feet and I overpronate. I do not currently wear orthotics, but I will swear by the Asics 2160 (rated Editor's Choice in Runner's World). I would wear nothing else. I run 20 miles/week give or take.
  • I am on level 4 (which imo is easier than level 3) and I was only doing it twice a week until this level. Now I am up to about 4x or more and still running too. I am not following the program per sey, I just like her workouts! All the plank work is really paying off!
  • Back roads in rural Wisconsin! - I have no idea who he belongs to, but I often attract a running buddy in the form of a friendly Golden Retriever. He usually scares the bejesus out of me because he literally comes out of nowhere! - tractors are very scary especially if it's getting after dark because they take up the…
  • I am on Week 4 and will continue doing this 3x weekly along with my running. I think Week 4 is easier than Week 3 personally. Jillian rocks!
  • There is a lot of plank work in the Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 dvd that I do and I would agree with you! At least at this point, my arms get more sore, tired faster than my abs. And yes, I can feel the burn in my abs too.

  • I am a runner and Asics are the only ones for me personally. I have tried several others and I would not wear anything else now! I have low arches and a pronation. I wear the 2160. Not the flashiest looking shoes but function over fashion definitely!!!
  • I do Ripped in 30 and love it!!! The more ruthless she is, the harder I work!
  • I do Ripped in 30 and LOVE it! I am also a runner, so I do her video only 2-3x weekly right now. I think her pushing really makes me work harder!
  • Thanks! I was pretty happy with my time for my first 5K and yes I am a fan of Runner's World! Love that pic, looks kind of like me, when I get it better shape! I also have the photo on my desktop as my reminder! So maybe I should back off my running for a bit to 4 days a week and increase the Jillian (strength) dvd to 3…
  • Me too! Will start training for my first half marathon soon!
  • Thanks brandyk, coincidentally, my name is brandi k! I think it's probably a good idea to vary the running a bit too. I love the Ripped in 30 workout, I really see the change, especially in my arms, there is a lot of plank work, pushups, etc. I just need to burn the fat on the muscle!
