I didn't mean to imply that any journal published such results. The story was anecdotal; my memory was that the person telling it was involved, but perhaps not. I did just find "The Surprising History of the 'HRmax=220-age' Equation" by Robert A Robergs & Roberto Landwehr. It's nice and short at 10 pages. Journal of…

A HRM can't tell if you're resting or exercising. One person's resting heart rate (RHR) can be another's steady state cardio rate; the HRM just measeures your heart rate. Polar HRMs come in a variety of capabilities; mine has a fit test capability which measures my heart rate at rest for 5 minutes and calculates a VO2max…

Started week 2 yesterday, just the workouts so far. Using mfp for calorie tracking...mostly.

Well, if you're strength training reasonably, your weight might not change (it might, but might not), but your body composistion will change: more muscle, less fat proportionally. That will change how you look, and hopefully how you feel.

Agreed and agreed. I'm 5'2" and was 108lb for years; 115 is fine too. What matters more than weight, though, is overall health. It sounds like you need to take a look at *what* you're eating and how much you're sleeping. You're doctor may be able to 'prescribe' a fitness plan; have you had your thyroid tested? Find a coach…

Good advice here. Runners' World has good info. I agree with checking your heart rate. When I do heart rate training (I use polarpersonaltrainer.com) I usually have to slow down to stay in the right zone, but then I can run longer. It's also definitely a mental workout; when I first started running, I hated it. I came up…

On our way to check out at Costco once, my husband and I realized we were buying only a big, super rich, chocolate cake......and a bathroom scale.

When you search for a food in the database, the list of possibilities comes up on the left. If you click on one, the name of it, quantity consumed, and units come up on the right. Under the name, in small text, it says something like "## confirmations" and "See nutritional information." If you click on "See nutritional…

Runner's World pretty much counts the two as equal; ex--if you don't have a big block of time for a long run, do 2 shorter runs in the same day. To build endurance you do have to increase workout time, but to increase fitness/overall health, the more movement throughout the day the better: "Your body craves movement. So…

It's common to plateau in weightloss/fitness after a while when you stick to the same routine. Like jenniferrow said, increase the intensity of your workouts. Do you do any strength training/weight lifting? Your metabolism gets an extra boost from that & it lasts longer than the boost from cardio. You said you "think" you…

I just re-started w/MFP. I decided to keep the food diary open all day on my computer at work. Whenever I eat (or drink) somthing, I enter it right away. Has that been an eye opener! I frequently chew gum too, which helps keep the snacking down. I also keep a glass or bottle of water at my desk and drink the water as…
