We have seen a bit of a return in the UK to the mile as a race distance, this is the headline UK race which finishes outside Buckingham palace: http://www.bupawestminstermile.co.uk/ I've not done a mile event but keep thinking about it so any insight into pacing strategy would be great.

Great Pictures, #55 sums up the running community to me!

Thanks, you too!

I'm using The Protein Works who sell online, mixes nice and easy and no GI issues with it at all for me. Banana and chocolate silk are my favourite flavours

Just be running the same training plan for a long time you won't make the significant improvements that you are hoping for I feel. If it were me I'd concentrate on building your base for the 10k & Half and use other sessions for the 5&6k distances. I am struggling with the value of a 2 mile easy.

This is something I have wondered about for ages. I'm 52 and have tracked my heart rate for the last year for all runs, I would guess my average for a reasonable pace run is about 155 to 160. Looking at the heart rate profile it is high for the first half a mile or so and then drops back down to the usual level. My…

10 Minutes, wow! Well done.
-
What about a high cadence session on the crosstrainer. 30 minutes low resistance keep your arms on the bars that don't move and stick at around 170 steps per minute. Nice low impact work out and gets you used to high cadence.

23.59 5K yesterday, beat my previous PB by 31 seconds! looking at 22 out there in the distance now and planning how to get there!
-
Fantatstic, well done, that's one of my next challenges!
-
PB of 23.59 today, which is 31 seconds off my previous PB. Ran in an event that had pacers at even times from 20 to 32 minutes. managed to hang on to the 24 minute pacer and pass her in the last 150 metres. Motto of the story, keep at it, you can get faster!

I feel your pain, did the same a few weeks ago on a trail run and took a few days for it to feel normal again. Off road certainly adds another dimension and level of difficulty to running. Well done on the PB also!

So I have managed to PB my last 2 events. 10K 52.52 (hilly course) 5K 24.30 Training for a 10 mile event at the moment so mixing up the training at the moment and looks like i'm getting other benefits on the shorter distances.

In the UK we have a free timed 5k run at many locations called parkrun. (http://www.parkrun.org.uk/) at 9,00 on every Saturday morning so 5K have become a very popular distance for runners. Just to add my 2 cents worth I find a nice warm up of about 1 mile before the start is a good way to get the heart rate up and warmed…

Why not do both, there are benefits of having the data and benefits of having a more natural run. Take a holistic view of running rather than making it too "secular"
-
If it affects you from the neck up then run, if it's neck down (chesty symptoms) then leave it.

Intersting, I used to work in the industry but all own label was made to order and recipes were unique to the retailer. EAN was part of the retailers spec provided by them
-
Just because they share a barcode doesn't make them the same finished product. The barcode number is issued to the manufacturer by the retailer for the production of those goods.
-
Did you see the instructions tab?
-
Thanks for that, great to have all those data-sets in one place!
-
Thanks for posting that link, that's really useful!

I think a trip to the physio is the only sensible approach, get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, see what they think about running the 1/2.
-
Two wrongs don't really make a right do they? Contact in close racing is inevitable, to intentionally harm someone is ridulous.

How fast can you get? I did a 5 k the other day and some guys older than you did 21 minutes, in the club i belong to we have guys around your age who can do 40 minute 10k's. My personal view is if you are at 50% for age grading at the distance then you are doing ok. that equates to a 1hr 7min 10k time for you
-
Might sound simplistic but have you thought of joining a running club? running with others is a sure fire way of getting better,

I saw this tonight and thought it was a wasted opportunity to produce a program that wasn't just an attempt to undermine anything to do with the diet industry. I think the slimfast guy summed it up and was spot on that it is the people who fail and not the products.

You must live in the north of Scotland then, been really hot recently "darn sarf"!
