In my understanding/opinion, it makes sense because our bodies are not simply bank accounts of calories, where the more you put out and the less you put in yields greater weight loss. Clearly, this is true to some degree, since we all gained weight by putting in more than we used up. But our bodies are living, functioning…

Clearly there are divided opinions on what to do :) If you're interested further, I recommend reading some of the "sticky" notes and reading various people's perspectives, and making informed choices for yourself. Good luck to you with however you proceed:smile:

Given all the information on this site that advocates eating exercise calories and netting at LEAST 1200 calories per day, it appears that you are netting far too few calories. This could be hindering your weight loss efforts. If eating more calories is difficult, why not cut back on exercise a little? You shouldn't have…

BUMP-ing this, as I have similar stats. Thanks for asking and thanks to everyone who responded

You look fantastic! Congrats to you and good luck with the rest of your goals :)

I agree with both of you -- I see so many people on here who want to lose 10-50 pounds, want to do it quickly, so they "choose" (via MFP goals) to lose 2 pounds per week, and barely net 1200 calories, which I can't believe is healthy either.

First, congrats on your progress and achievement! Second, congrats on a witty subject title! (I was expecting a rant about reasons not to lose weight or something, lol)

Thanks for the www.mybodygallery.com tip -- that is a cool feature!

This. Thank you, and well said. Also, for everyone with a friend and a grandma who did or did not drink diet soda and did or did not die, "one example a statistic does not make." (That is, wonderful for you and yours, but no need to assume a universal truth.)

I agree! I'm not sure if this is the case everywhere yet, as I am also in California, but I've been seeing more and more places (McDonald's, Starbucks, Subway, IHOP, etc.) putting the calories right on the menu next to the prices. Hooray for being able to make informed decisions!

This was my first thought also. I've tried weighing myself (out of curiosity) throughout the day, and my weight fluctuates up to 5 pounds throughout the day, no joke. It's generally lowest in the morning. So make sure you weigh yourself at the same time of day, same clothes (or none), etc. Also, since mine consistently…

The Subways around me (in Los Angeles) have the abbreviated nutritional facts in the glass case, but they also now have basic caloric information ON the actual menu board next to the prices. Granted, this doesn't show fats, carbs, sodium, etc., but if you're deciding between two sandwiches, or debating a foot-long, it's…

thanks everyone for your support -- it's what keeps me going!

I'm a full time graduate student and part-time intern. I've gotten in the habit of working out at the gym on campus on days when I have a 2 or 3 hour break between classes (3 days/week), and I aim to work out one day after internship (1 day/week) and one day over the weekend, for a total of 5 workouts each week. It's…

I'm willing to try! I also weigh myself at least once daily, frequently more. So this is probably just what I need to lose my dependency on the scale :ohwell: (Also, I'm not religious, but here's to a Lenten effort!)

when people join MFP and within 2 days post "why does it give me MORE calories after I exercise? am I supposed to EAT these?"
-
My overall goal has been to lose between 40 and 45 pounds, so far I'm down 18.... so 22-27 more to go. Adding you as a friend now :flowerforyou:

In my opinion based on experience and reading other posts around here, I would guess that you're not eating enough. Particularly if you're doing a rigorous program like 30-day Shred, you probably need to be eating more than 1000 calories (even netting more than that, including eating back calories burned from exercise).…

I'm a total breakfast person. For me it was biscuits and gravy, chicken-fried steak and gravy with eggs, any kind of egg/cheddar/bacon scramble. (I still love breakfast, but I try to either make it at home or choose healthier options when I go out.) And also, beer :drinker:

I do! I designated one of my "meal" slots to alcohol -- it's easier to log that way and I keep it separate from "dinner" or "snacks" or whatever. (Add me if you'd like to see my food log.) Keeping it in moderation has been difficult for me, but easier once I've started logging it and realizing how many calories are in…

I drink the shakes (although I don't follow the Slim Fast "plan"). As a full time graduate student and part-time intern, I have zero time for creative meal planning and preparation! The canned shakes are an easy breakfast for me that I can grab and drink on my commute. And I actually prefer the Target brand "Market Pantry"…

For me, it was the day my doctor asked what I was going to do about my weight. I knew I was overweight, but it took hearing from a doctor that I trust to really kick me into gear. When I went back for my last physical after losing 15 lbs, she was ecstatic! That was totally the motivation and reinforcement I needed.

my favorite part is that you made a drunken bet to run a marathon and now you're sticking with it! haha, that's awesome :) good luck!

Totally up to the individual -- but I do Wednesday mornings. If I have a rough weekend, it gives me a couple days to readjust. It's also easier for me to remember: "Wednesday weigh-day". Just my two cents :)

:noway: bumping for later

I'll give it a try. I've been in the same 2-pound range for the last MONTH and I'm going CRAZY! I've tried changing exercises, not exercising, eating back calories, not eating them back, increasing my daily calories, decreasing -- I'm running out of possible options! So this is my next plan of attack -- thanks

I recently tried it, and I was not impressed. I didn't experience any of the negative effects (those aren't side effects -- that's how it works!), but I also did not lose any weight. I attribute this to the fact that I was at the low end of the weight range for which they recommend it (SW 170 lbs, 5'7"). Perhaps if you…

I am in a similar position. I lost about 15 pounds over about 3 months, and I felt great. But then it stopped. I've been in the same 2-pound weight range the entire month of February! I'm so tired of stupid 165-167 I could scream, haha. I've searched this site and others for recommendations on getting off the plateau, and…
