Can I still make a confession? Please don't think any less of me, because this is horrible. Whenever I go to the gym or when I am at the expo and/or starting line for a race, I look to see if there is someone bigger than me. And I never sign up for a race without checking the previous year's results to see if someone…

I have a half-marathon mid-September and staying on track is super important right now. Can I join you guys?

My doctor, who specializes in non-surgical weight loss, has told me repeatedly that we just have to be smarter about how we eat. If I have pizza, I get two small slices and a big salad. If I go for Mexican, I can eat the chips OR the margarita. If you are afraid of food, you are probably not going to have success in the…

I just met you, but you're my new best friend, because we are totally on the same page with this! :)

I just tune folks out. You can't let other people's negative relationships with food interfere with your progress. I find most people who are negative are just projecting their own issues onto you. I have a doctor, dietitian and exercise physiologist so I'm pretty stocked up on knowing what I need to be doing. Sometimes I…

Loose skin is a lot easier to deal with than heart disease, diabetes, strokes, etc. Just incorporate some weight training into your routine and don't try to rush things. Do your part and let your body do its part. I made the mistake of worrying about loose skin to the point that I got discouraged, and now I realize that…

This is to any of you who are not comfortable in your own skin or feel like you're not seeing your true self in the mirror, or really anyone on such a major weight loss journey: If you can, at least go to a therapist once or twice. Believe me, you can lose all the weight in the world but if you are not in the right place…

Re: overdoing it with running. My exercise physiologist says maximum every other day on running, and right now I am training for a half-marathon and she actually wants me to use one of my cardio days for something other than running to keep from injuring myself.

You may be overdoing it for just starting back up. Definitely look at a beginners' running program. There are tons of apps that help you with pace and tempo. I also think you probably need better shoes. Definitely go to a running store with experts and have them analyze your feet. I never in 10 million years would've…

I generally stick with the treadmill and elliptical (although I used to ride the stationery bike for miles everyday and had amazing calves) at the gym. However, most of my cardio is classes - Zumba and water fitness. I also like the Les Mills classes if you have those (Body Pump, Body Flow, etc.) They are cardio with…

I feel like now I have the tools (both mentally and physically) to maintain a weight loss.

I lost 63 pounds about 10 years ago and gained it back and then some between 2010-2013. Have kept the same 20 pounds off for a year, so I am going to call that a victory even though I've been hovering in this weight range. However, I am on a mission to lose at least 50, maybe 70 in the next year or so.

I drink a lot less but I log it. I think the biggest problem with alcohol (besides empty calories) is that drinking doesn't help with making bad food choices.

I have struggled my whole life too. The only thing that has really helped was that I started focusing on getting mentally healthy too. I go to therapy about once a month, go to an OA meeting when I need it (and keep their meditation book on my desk everyday) and try to keep busy other ways. Talking to people helps.…

I am on a high-protein, limited-carb diet that my doctor and dietitian put together for me. There are tons of plans out there, and it is easy to get overwhelmed. However, if you don't deal with your food addiction, you must likely aren't going to have success in the long term (speaking from experience here). If you can…

My neck is definitely smaller, but I am not sure about my head. I guess we'll see when I put my ball cap on at spring training this weekend because I haven't worn it since last March!

I saute mine with garlic, onion and some seasonings in olive oil. Sometimes I add a little balsamic vinegar or lemon juice.

weight loss = calories in < calories out It doesn't matter what you eat, what kind of workout you do, if you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. That being said, cardio is really helpful. It gets your heart rate up, it makes you feel good, and it burns calories pretty quickly. The treadmill is…

I was going to say that it was that I am wearing a necklace I bought last year without the extender chain, but then I went to the gym today after a week off and I had to step up the workout because I was not as out of shape as I thought!

Ask your insurance to recommend a therapist who works with people with eating disorders or other people in recovery. My therapist is awesome. She's even gone to meetings with me!

Therapy if you can afford it (or your insurance will pay for it, which it probably will). I find that my low dose of anti-depressants help as well, but you should discuss that with your doctor. OA helps too. It has taken several years of therapy, but for the most part, I have a healthy relationship with food these days.

P.S. Sign up for the gym you will actually use. Otherwise there's no point in signing up, regardless of how convenient it is.

I don't live somewhere that you walk anywhere, unfortunately, but if I had to walk a long distance to get to a gym I would probably just go on a walk wherever and then get the equipment to lift at home. Although you do kind of kill two birds with one stone if you have to walk to the gym to work out. Cardio done, time for…

I go to Planet Fitness, Gold's Gym and a local community center. Say what you want about Planet Fitness, but no one ever judges me there. There are some pretty heavy lifters at PF, and Gold's has a lot of the same policies that PF does (dropping weights, etc). Last night I went to Gold's and I got disrespect from patrons…

I have a quarter marathon May 2, and I'd like to lose 25 pounds by then. If anyone wants to add me, that'd be great. I will say though, weight doesn't always do what we want it to. I have been really working my tail off and haven't lost an ounce over the last week. However, I feel and look better, so that needs to be just…

It is supposed to be 6 degrees when I get off work tonight, and I am not going to the gym. It is just not happening, mostly for safety reasons. So I decided to take a rest day because I am very bad at taking them. But I keep looking at my dumbbells sitting in the corner of my office longingly. I might do a few quick reps…

I don't notice what most people wear at the gym. I don't care. But, I will tell you that the day I looked down mid-rep and realized my yoga pants were a bit see-through? Well, I was mortified. It's well-known that yoga pants have had some quality control issues lately, and I always figure that's the problem when I see a…

Is a mini a half? Tons of people are starting to train now for halfs this spring. I am training for a quarter marathon May 2. I think it is definitely doable. You can find solid training plans anywhere from 8 to 16 weeks online.

For weight loss, nutrition should be first, and then complemented with a good workout routine. I would definitely add at least a couple days of cardio and make sure your weight workouts are getting all your muscle groups.

I had trouble with my legs when I was little and kids made fun of me in gym class. I am still not 100% OK with group fitness because of it. I let myself get fat because I was terrified of being athletic in front of other people. Just work on yourself and don't worry about others. Just like yesterday I was trying BodyPump…
