  • The thing is, I didn't buy them from the running store this time. Since I thought I was good to go with the Brooks, I bought them cheaper online than I would have gotten them in the store. I think I'll switch back to my old ones for a few weeks and see how that goes. They still have some mileage left on them.
  • That's stupid. I thought I was going to be good to go for life with that model of shoe!
  • Thanks guys. I'm sold!
  • Nice! Thanks. I have an I-Phone 5 as well. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I usually just jam to a Pandora station on my runs and my current C25K app turns my music down to talk to me. Do you know if the Nike app would work similarly with Pandora?
  • I love running outside. I dislike the treadmill because I feel like I'm not going anywhere and I find myself constantly looking at how much time I have left. However, when I run these longer runs outside I found that I have to switch up my routes because I'd start to mark landmarks and I'd be like "Oh man, I just passed…

  • Good for you! I remember week 1, I was huffing and puffing too. I didn't think there was any way that I'd be able to get through this. I'm starting week 8 this Sunday and believe me, it does get easier!
  • Hop on a bike! I have a feeling my knees will be waving that flag on me sooner than I'd like. And on that day I will be going out and purchasing a very nice bike.

  • I'm with Hayley. A goal. My current goal is to complete a 5k. After that, a 10k. And so on, and so forth. When I'm thinking about quitting, I picture myself crossing the finish line and I dig deep.
  • I'm a new runner also. I went and got fitted for shoes at a running store. After they analyzed the way I ran, they brought out several different pairs of shoes that they though might be good for me. After trying them all on, I ended up with a pair of Brooks GTS 12's. I love them. But everyones feet are different!
  • Good for you. Definitely stick with it, it's very rewarding as you progress.
  • When I'm on vacation I don't work out and eat whatever I want. It's vacation. It won't kill you. Enjoy yourself and get back on track when you get home. Everyone needs to let loose every once in a while and enjoy life.
  • Nice to meet you as well! Lol, I forgot about my profile, haven't looked at it recently. Since then, I've lost that pregnancy weight and then gained it back from another pregnancy. I dunno why I get fat when my wife gets pregnant! lol
  • I'm in the same boat. 32, married, work full time with 3 kids (11, 4 and 1). I wanted to tackle a 5k as well, so I started Couch to 5k (see my recent post). I signed up for my first 5k in June and have lost 13 pounds so far! I know how busy schedules can get for people like us, and that what we want to do usually comes…
  • I know what you're talking about. I have sporadic days like this and I used to freak the heck out. But now, I just keep going though my routine knowing I'm going to hit a speed bump every so often. For example last night I had like 900 calories left after being meticulous all day and having exercised. Then my buddy called…
  • I am currently doing C25K. I just finished week 5. I'm loving it. Good luck to you!
  • I'm doing Couch to 5K and keeping it under 1800 calories. I have run 3 of week 4 today. I've lost 12 pounds so far. I have never really run, in fact I despised it. This is a great program, I'm actually enjoying it!
  • Whole wheat pita and hummus! I hadn't ever tried hummus until I started watching what I eat.
  • I like cut peel and then cut up and apple and throw the sliced pieces in a frying pan. I think sprinkle on some cinnamon and simmer it. It's delicious!
  • You are a better person than I. Pizza is the one thing I can't give up.
  • Well... I stretched after. I am sore in places that I've never been sore before. Like when I walk today, just the motion of my foot bending when I take steps, that hurts! How do you stretch for that? lol

  • Hey there! I'm not all that far from you. I'm in the city but right on the Niles border.
  • This sounds awesome. I'm trying it tonight!
  • Product 19 with banana and skim milk!
  • Hehe, well I knew it was okay. I guess I was just asking about the amount of food involved... lol. I'm usually so hungry after a workout that I end up eating quite a large portion of the whole wheat pasta.
  • I usually workout around 10 or 10:30 in the morning. So basically the afterworkout meal serves as my lunch.
  • I kind of thought that, but does the body's ability to adapt translate into negative results? Will you just not gain muscle, but not lose muscle if you stayed with the same routine?
  • I've got creeky knees, so even a jog aggravates them. I have had tremendous success walking on an incline. I hit the treadmill for a half hour at 3.5. I start with an incline of 2 and up it by 1 every 5 minutes. I end up at 7 by the end. This really tired me out at first, but now it's a piece of cake so I think I'm going…
  • I've tried to run with my 4 year old lab mix. He just jumps on me when we run. Either that or he cuts me off and I trip over the leash. I pray that your dog turns out to be a "jog friendly" dog!
  • That's okay, last night I exceeded my calorie intake and went waaaay over my sodium intake in 1 meal. Damn Chinese food!
