  • I just had surgery back in August to remove a large ovarian cyst. I have suffered from PCOS symptoms since I went off of the birth control pill in 2013. I went from being 5'8", 146lbs and in the best shape of my life to gaining 20 lbs seemingly overnight (in about 3 weeks). All of my hair started falling out, and I broke…
  • I'm 31. I lost almost 40 lbs when I was 26 and was at my lowest weight ever. I maintained it with little effort for two years. When my SO and I started trying to conceive when I was 28, I went off the pill, and started gaining weight uncontrollably despite continuing to run 50+ miles a week and using MFP. I went to the…
  • I felt like I was holding my breath at the bottom of the ocean and couldn't even see the light at the surface anymore. Emotionally, of course. That's the only thing I could ever compare it to. Exercise and healthy diet helped me a lot. So did the over-the-counter supplement 5-HTP. The hardest part was forcing myself to get…
  • I have this same problem. My boyfriend is 6'4" and can eat a large pizza by himself and not gain an ounce. All he has to do is say "hm, I should lose some weight" and it seemingly instantly comes off in a few days. The only semi-solution I've found so far is to INSIST on doing all of the grocery shopping and all of the…
  • You can add me too! I'm trying to lose 36 lbs.
  • It's definitely water weight, or at least mostly (not sure what you ate yesterday). Could you be constipated? Not trying to be gross, but that can make a pretty big difference, and trying to increase your protein intake can sometimes cause it as a side effect. I recommend getting plenty of fiber, and doing some intense…
  • It's OKAY!!!! You should have seen ME in "Piloxing" class. It's high-intensity pilates/kickboxing fuzed! I was the ONLY one who wasn't a regular, and I sure as **** couldn't "keep up with the class." Everyone was laughing at me, but you know what the trick was? I laughed at myself, too. We're all human, we all…
  • Definitely check out a good sports or running store and make sure your shoes are fitting right. I'm 90% sure they aren't. You need some light socks and good-fitting shoes. They should be tight along the laces, with room to wiggle your toes. I'd bet money that your shoes are tight around the toes. This is a no-no. Source:…
  • Are you taking any other supplements? Pills, patches, etc? Those can really screw up your stomach and give you the shakes.
  • If you have a Tijuana Flats anywhere nearby, my fav hot sauce in the world is their "Smack My *kitten* and Call Me Sally." It's $5/bottle.
  • Agree that it's mostly mental. Just get out and run. I've been running for 7 years now, and I do about 6miles a day. I probably walk about 2 of it. No one's perfect. Don't put so much dang pressure on yourself!
  • Definitely take up exercise! Also, weigh and measure EVERYTHING.
  • HI there!! Welcome aboard!!! I love all of the same things as you. Unfortunately, it took taking myself away from beer to start losing my beer belly and pounds (I'm currently voluntarily deployed to Afghanistan, where alcohol is prohibited). I miss it so!!!!
  • Definitely agree with rice cakes. Orrrrrr Quaker mini rice cakes. You can eat an entire bag for 330 calories.
  • Sounds like you need to find a new workout routine. Something you enjoy!!! The gym isn't for everyone!!! I prefer to run on trails and get a different view of nature every time. It's new and exciting every time. =) Maybe try a few different fitness classes and find something you really actually enjoy. It's also a good…
  • I'd like to do it as well. I have 35 lbs to lose, and I think this would speed things up!!! :)
  • Friend me. I'm on the other side of the world, so your evening is my morning. I'm bored at work, and I'll chat with you all you want for support. Do NOT give in. Also, recommend buying the book "your food is fooling you" written by the former director of the Food and Drug Association.
  • Sucks! Been there! Recommend taking Metamucil tablets in the evening (psyillium husk) 5-6 of them should do it. In the morning try some coffee or other highly-caffeinated beverage, along with a ton of water, and wait for the magic to happen. lol
  • MFP should be automatically telling you how many calories you need in a day. Anything high in protein is a good snack. Make sure you're hitting your protein and fiber requirements per MFP. If you're staying within your cals and meeting your protein/fiber requirements, you shouldn't be that hungry. I love Pringles too. :)
  • Like others have said, coffee helps suppress my appetite. Another suggestion is to change your routine around. Maybe start working out after work. At the gym, or jogging/running outside. Or try a cool new fitness class that you can go to after work, bring your gym bag with you. :) That way, you limit the amount of time…
  • What about Afghanistan?
  • Paper's right. If it were an exact, predictable science, EVERYONE would do it. It's tough. Sometimes you're going to get on the scale and you will have GAINED weight, even when you do everything right. It's unpredictable, it's a pain, and it's time consuming. You just have to stick it out and keep with it.
  • I'm so sorry to hear you say these things about yourself. I really hope you'll accept my friend request. I grew up really fast too, and was also very chubby as a child. I'm 5'8, and stopped growing (vertically) at the age of 10. So you can imagine. In third grade I was taller than the teacher. We did an experiment for…
  • Agree with most others that you're probably: a) retaining water (try diurex 1-2 days a week and chugging water daily) b) putting on muscle (try measuring yourself) c) Eating more calories than you think (start using a food scale and measuring cups/spoons--it's tedious I know, but totally worth it) d) burning less than you…
  • I got bored with bowling.
  • Had it happen before. I think it's partially a loss of muscle, and partially a loss of water weight. You retain water when you do heavy exercise. I'm no fitness buff, so I have no idea why.
  • That is pretty fast, but if you're not starving all the time it should be fine. Everyone's body auto-regulates in it's own time and manner once we start a healthy lifestyle.
  • The best thing you can do for yourself is to just make it out of the store without buying it. It's hard, I know, but go in there with a list and stick to it. Here's one suggestion: Only go grocery shopping once a week, on a set day and time. Put 3 healthy things on the list and give yourself 3 "flex" items. Every grocery…
