Thanks, it felt great beating him two races in a row. Now we get to do it again at another trail race this Saturday. I'm glad that guy missed one race of the series so he is not a big threat to me in points. I've got a pretty good lead right now. I probably will back off slightly this weekend and save some strength for the…

Yep. I don't know if she'll do it again though. She needs more arch support and she was sore for a couple of days after that. Sorry to hear you are sick! Get better so you can get out and enjoy the nicer weather.

I had to LOL at this photo from Saturday's trail race. I look like I'm about to die!! I didn't even see the photographer there at all. I was too busy huffing my way up a hill. And here's the guy who is my age right behind me, and my wife coming up behind him.

I agree with the above advice - know the trails and wear proper footwear. I like to hike trails before running them, taking note of the roots & rocks and elevation change. When you are taking your time walking it's much easier to gain familiarity with the trail.

My next half is on 4/19. It's on a greenway along a creek and very, very flat. I went there for the first time yesterday and biked the course - only saw 100 feet of elevation change total. I'd like to PR this one and am shooting for 1:50.

Way to go!!!

That's an odd distance but I'd say heck yeah, you have enough time. Just keep up what you are doing.

Brutal 5K trail race last Saturday. My Garmin showed pretty even elevation gain and loss but it sure felt like nothing but up, up, and more up. I finished in 26:08 and 5th in my AG. I was 10th overall finisher and 6 out of the top 10 were my AG! That was only the 3rd 5K I have ever run and is a PR for me. I need to sign up…

Get that checked out. Could be a labral tear, but I would expect that to continue hurting after the run. Issues with the hip joint often refer pain into the groin.

No kidding! I've been in races in where I saw a simple garden hose hooked up to a fire hydrant at the water stations.

Awesome!! Congrats!

New result: 4/5 Dirty Spokes Olde Rope Mill 3.1 Mi Trail Running Race, Woodstock, Ga. 26:08 5th in age group, 10th overall (a 5K PR for me!)

Everyone is getting in some fantastic run!! Love it! Great progress y'all! Yesterday was my 4th in a series of 8 trail races. I was doing the 5K option while a little over half the runners did the longer 6.5 mile option. Weather was perfect and I did my 2-mile pre-race warmup run per my coach. As I came back I saw at least…

Last night when doing hill sprints my wife & I recorded video of each other on our iPhones. It wasn't pretty! Good form went totally out the window!

Nice run John!! Last night we did 4 miles easy with the group, then off on our own to do 6 x 100m hill sprints. I think I pushed the sprints a bit too hard and now my hamstring is sore this morning. Gotta run again today - 3 miles easy then 6 x 100m strides. Saturday is a 5K trail race.

Pronation control is typically less of an issue on trails due to the uneven surface. And you won't find a lot of support trail shoes, most are neutral. Pearl Izumi makes a trail shoe with light stability - model is the Trail M2. I've had the opportunity to test-drive these shoes on a couple of trail runs and loved them.…

Great runs & workouts everyone!! Last night was our usual group run - tons of people showed up to enjoy a beautiful 80° day. Just a week ago we were freezing out there! They played an April Fool's joke on us by telling us we were going south on the greenway when in reality everyone was supposed to go north. We didn't pick…

Wow, I didn't know you would be there! There were more guys walking around with big cameras than I expected (since only 2 of us were hired to cover the race). I'll be at the Peachtree Jr - I think you said you would be there. I wear a dual camera harness so if you see someone with two big cameras that's probably me. I was…

Here's a shot I took at at the Atlanta Women's 5K. Pretty much all those you see in this photo were running sub-20 5K's.

That's great! 180 is typically the ideal number to shoot for but it's not necessarily the perfect number for everyone. You're pretty close! Last year I was usually around the low-mid 160's but I get close to 180 now on slow runs (thanks to a Good Form Running class). On faster runs I can easily be 200 or more.

Laura - awesome run!!! Regarding fueling - if it's a race don't worry about it. Eat what you want when you want. For training I try not to use anything but when I was first going over 10K distance I would fuel at 10K then every 5K after. I've run training runs now up to half marathon distance without anything. In a race I…

Gotta brag about my wife who set a 5K PR today of 22:54 at the Atlanta Women's 5K. Her previous PR was 25:24, so a huge improvement.

LOL, and all this time I've been calling you Joe!

Just got home from the doctor and everything looks good. My hip soreness has been gone since Tuesday, only to be replaced by some soreness in my upper hamstring / lower glute area. She found a small knot at the upper hamstring attachment and worked it out as best she could. I need to keep working on it with a tennis ball…

I went through PTT about a year ago. 6 weeks off from running helped a lot and the DR suggested an insert like Superfeet. When I restarted running again I would occasionally have mild pain in the same spot but nothing major. Later I had some issues with my hip and the therapist identified several weaknesses and an overall…

Over in the F&E section there's a March Running Challenge thread. I had set my March goal at 85 miles. As of last night I am at 84 miles. Sunday is a 7-mile long run so that will put me at 91 miles for the month. That's just one mile short of my all-time highest month which was January.

Per the coach's plan tonight I did 4 miles easy @ 10:00 pace then 6x 100m hill climbs. Weather was nice and it was great to get out with the running group.
