  • I spread one wedge of Laughing Cow light cheese (35 cal) on a low carb wrap and add 3 ounces of chicken, cucumber slices and red bell pepper slices. Ends up around 200 calories.

  • You can ask them to steam the vegetables and get the meat with the sauce on the side so that it is not swimming in calories. You can probably modify existing dishes or just ask for what you want.
  • I haven't lifted in a week, because of lots of roller derby stuff last weekend, and then I tweaked my ankle which then crawled up my calf and resulted in a nagging soreness in my left leg. I actually swapped cars with someone so I didn't have to drive my manual transmission. My left leg was that sore. As a result, I…
  • I lift 3 times per week and skate 3 times per week for 2-3 hours at a time (I play roller derby). I do the lifting to build strength for the roller derby, but I feel that sometimes all that skating takes away some of my strength gain potential. I do continue to see improvement, just not as fast as others who do less…
  • Thank you! And you are correct. I am stronger than I was 3 months ago, for sure!
  • I need a kick to the head or butt or something... A good friend of mine wanted to try weight lifting, so I met her at the gym last week and.... long story short, she lifted all of the same weights I lifted (warm up sets AND working weight) and probably could have lifted more and... sigh.... It really bothered me that she…
  • What skimpstah says. Don't give up. I didn't lose a single pound for 2 solid months of doing SL 5x5 consistently. Then all of a sudden I started losing pounds as well as inches. I actually increased my calories and continued to lose pounds. I'm tweaking my calories now to find that sweet spot where I don't lose weight so…
  • Failed at 112 pounds for squats today. I knew a fail and deload was coming. I was in the rack with safety pins set properly, and when I struggled to stand after rep 4, the guy in the next rack came running over. I shook my head to keep him out of my way, made it back up, and then sat down on the next rep. What was he going…
  • Yesterday: Squats = 108 pounds, 5x5 Bench = 75 pounds, 5x5 Row = 78 pounds, 5x5 This stuff is starting to get heavy! I practiced dumping the bar in the squat rack (without any plates on it) so that I can do it comfortably if I ever have to. All I have to do is sit down, as long as I have the safety pins in the right place.…
  • Feeling like a boss today! Squat 102 pounds 5x5 Bench 72 pounds 5x5 Row 75 pounds 5x5 Got to 100 pounds for squat on Saturday and moving right up today with my little cheater washers. Did a little dance Saturday when I realized I just lifted triple digits for the first time ever. Did another dance when I looked back in my…
  • My roller derby team just started this 30 day challenge! We do squats and wall sits and planks anyway, to stay strong for skating. It definitely helps to have other people do it at the same time and challenge each other. My captain posts the number required for each day on our Facebook group, and then we comment when done.…
  • Macybean, so sorry for your loss. I am glad you have kind and compassionate vets. Take good care of you. I continue to be so impressed with the amount of weights you ladies here can lift. It really keeps me going. Today I did: squat = 98 pounds 5x5 bench = 72 pounds 4,4,3,3,3 (first set with no spotter and roll of shame,…
  • I've been there. I lost 25 pounds, put on 30, then 10 more. Might not sound like much, but I'm pretty short, so it actually had some pretty bad health effects for me. I felt hopeless. Then I started making better choices, one meal at a time. I had the help and support of a group of friends who were trying to do the same.…
  • I use warmupreps.com to determine my warm up sets. For squats, I always start with the bar, no matter what, just to loosen up. For overhead press, I NEVER do as many warm up sets as the web site says. It's just too hard, and I think it wears me out. (I only OHP 60 pounds right now.) As you progress to heavier weights,…
  • Squat: 95 pounds OHP: 60 pounds (5,4,3,3,3) Deadlift: 145 x 3 Attempted to deadlift 155, and couldn't get it off the floor. My lifting partner handed me his belt, strapped me in tight, and... still couldn't get it off the floor. After all that, I tried 145 pounds, which I did like a boss last week, and could only manage 3.…
  • I stayed at the same weight for the first month of Stronglifts, and all of a sudden, with no other changes, weight started slipping off, and I've lost about 8 pounds in the last 4-6 weeks. I wonder if you will experience this delayed reaction as well. As I'm not really trying to lose this much weight, I've decided I need…
  • Have someone look at your form, and have that someone spot you as well. I automatically lift more with a spotter on the bench press, because I'm afraid of not being able to rack the weight. Another thing that helped me, since I'm a shorty (5'2") was putting a couple plates on the floor to put my feet on. I have to be able…
  • I made a spreadsheet and printed it out and just fill it in by hand. Every few workouts, I type the numbers in the spreadsheet so I can look at the pretty graph of upward trends. I was using an Android app, biglifts or something like that, but it assumes 5# added every workout, and I got tired of manually changing it every…
  • Squat 90 pounds 5x5 Overhead press 58 pounds 5x5 Deadlift 145 pounds 1x5 I am so excited! Pretty sure 90 pounds is the most I ever squatted, and did it almost comfortably 5x5! My lifting partner keeps saying I'm slipping the bar off my right shoulder, but I didn't get it. The chiropractor I saw on Monday said my right…
  • Did my first roll of shame on bench press today. Was trying to do 70 pounds, and couldn't get the 4th rep on the 4th set up. Rolled the bar down and tipped my tiny weights off. Decided to try the 5th set to see if I could at least get a few reps, and someone came over to spot me and I did all 5! (Yay!) He did yell at me on…
  • Thank you! I will look up the Youtube videos, for sure! My goal is to build strength, and I've never had much for upper body strength. But anything that improves my overall core strength is good too.
  • Do it, but listen to your body. If you feel tired, you won't be able to lift as much. Be ok with progressing slowly. Some is better than none.
  • Squat 82 pounds Bench 68 pounds Row 65 pounds Got some excellent form advice and spotting from a gentleman who is also doing SL5x5, and we had a great workout together, which was a pleasant surprise. He suggested I put plates under my feet to be able to press through my heels instead of toes while bench pressing, and it…
  • I started SL at the end of September, and just progressed to OHP at 55 pounds but only got 5,5,4,3,3 the first time I tried it (Monday). My body weight is around 137, and I'm 5'2". I am progressing on the other lifts, but this is the hardest one for me. I have never had tremendous upper body strength, but am hoping SL…
  • I have made decent progress on my squats since taking off my running shoes. I haven't been yelled at yet, and I do slip the shoes back on when I am returning the weight plates to their homes, so I might not even buy lifting shoes. Today I did: Squat 75 pounds, 5x5 OHP 55 pounds, 5,5,4,3,3 Deadlift 125 pounds 1x5 I was…
  • I took my shoes off to squat today, and it did make a difference! I was able to lift the weight I couldn't do Saturday, with decent form on all reps! No more lifting in my running shoes!
  • I didn't think about the shoes! Thanks for reminding me that I need to find my Converse and stop wearing my running shoes to lift. I didn't figure it would make a difference until I got up to heavier weights, but it might help.
  • I started the SL 5x5 September 30, and just had a week off due to vacation, but back at it this past week. I am not progressing as fast as I would like on my squats, and have just decided that I have to be patient. In the past, I've squatted up to 90 pounds, but am currently stuck at 65. I know it takes time to build up…
  • I started SL 3 weeks ago, but also skate 3-4 times per week for 2 hours because I play roller derby. I wanted to start lifting heavy to gain strength for the roller derby and also because I've been stuck on the amount I can lift and squat for a while. Some days, I lift in the morning and skate at night, some days I…
  • I'm Deborah, 46 years of age, single, no kiddos, but Mom to one small cat named Grace, who was a rescue who rescued me. We live in Wisconsin. I am a chemical engineer by education and work at a chemical company in the Safety and Regulatory Affairs group. I started lifting weights with a trainer at the gym about 3 years…
