  • I don't think you need to be concerned; in fact, IMHO carbs are the problem, not the solution. We've been conditioned all our lives to believe fat is the enemy, but our grandparents knew it was carbs and sugar that would make you fat.
  • I've been there myself. I topped out at 385 lbs back in 2002, got down to 255, then back up to 330 about a year ago. For me, this happens when I stop keeping track of my weight and what I'm eating. I think awareness of one's weight is at least half the battle; if I don't weigh myself, I'll always fall right back into my…
  • A few years ago (well, more than a few; it was 2002 or so) I had great success with Weight Watchers - I lost 135 lbs over about a year and a half. I still hadn't quite achieved my goal weight but I stopped going to meetings and over the next few years put about 70 lbs back on. Subsequent tries with WW weren't all that…
  • Maybe not yet, but it will become a form of rebellion. The generation that has come of age in the past 10 years or so loves tattoos and piercings, and the trend probably began as a form of rebellion. Give it another 10 years and the next generation will see tattoos and piercings as something "old people" have, and the…
  • Not a fan of tattoos at all, myself, and particularly on women. That's just me, though.
  • I drink mine black so I don't have to worry about it. Learning to drink coffee black can be tough, but worth it in my opinion. You might try flavored coffees to start off with.
  • I'm not going to lie to you and say it'll be easy - but it absolutely can be done. Back in 2002 I started at 385 lbs myself, and over the course of a year and a half lost 135 lbs. I've gained part of it back since then (it's a long story), but I'm back on track now - I've quit smoking and MFP is helping me control my…
  • Two hard-boiled eggs with a little garlic salt. I keep a bowl of them in the refrigerator, so it makes a quick and easy (and only 140 calorie) breakfast.
  • I think Weight Watchers is a great program; starting in 2002, I lost 135 pounds on it in about a year and a half, although I still hadn't quite reached my goal. I dropped out of the program, thinking I knew the program well enough that I could do it myself and save the $50 or so a month. I did ok for a while, but in the…
  • Thanks for the confirmation! As long as it's reasonably accurate I'll be happy - but it has to be consistent. I can't trust any measurement that isn't repeatable.
  • I ordered an "Eatsmart Precision Plus Digital Bathroom Scale with Ultra Wide Platform and Step-on Technology" from Amazon this morning. It has a 4.8 out of 5 rating based on 3,000 user reviews and everyone seems to agree that it's accurate and consistent - plus it only costs $37. We'll see how it works out...
  • 1,476,781 in the U.S. with my first name. 480,434 in the U.S. with my last name 2,263 with the same first and last name. Talk about common... ;-)
  • That's actually what I'm looking for more than anything else. I have a cheap bathroom scale now, and if I step on it five times in five minutes, I'll get five different weights (and a pretty wide range). As long as it's fairly consistent I can live with it.
  • I haven't used a check register in a long time - but I almost never write checks anymore. Used Quicken for many years, but finally decided its budgeting functions were too weak. Tried Mint, but don't like its budgeting any better. Now I use YNAB (You Need a Budget), which is the best budgeting software available, IMHO.
  • Amen to Scarlett Johanssen!
